Entertaining and insightful look at the makings of Facebook. Great acting by all the leading roles. Well directed by the west wing guy.
Really interesting to see how it all started. Worth a look
this movie was ok. Not nearly as good as all the credit it got when it was released. The story failed to develop or delve into the character of Mark Zukerberg. He was portrayed as very 2 dimensionsal and nobody is that. I know he is supposedly social awkward, but I the character had no personality. Actually few of the characters had any depth with some who appear throughout the whole film, with you knowing nothing really about by the end of the film (Can't even recall their names!)
Interesting story, but with no humanity. Too hard to connect with this film, particularly with so many good films out there getting much less attention.
DAVE SAYS
Facebook , so that's what all the fuss is about
What a great movie. Well worth watching, I loved it.
For this 65 year old ear the remote buttons took a hammering, having to stop and start at nearly all the subtitles, even rewinding a lot of the subtitles because they disappeared off the screen too quickly. An annoyance, and extended the movie play time considerably, but absolutely necessary to follow the script. A very interesting movie, giving an insight into the world of the computer genius but how factual was it all? Considering the modernity of the story and all the players (not the actors) are actually still alive, did they have enough input into the nuts and bolts of the story. This 65 year old has had no interest in using Facebook and now will certainly persevere with this disinterest. But the movie is worth a look.
Found this really hard get into, and then really hard to follow.
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would recommend.
Enjoyable movie, left me wondering if all the senarios were true. Mark Zukerberg is a Sheldon without the charisma or humanity.
This movie got on my nerves from the very first scene. He talked WAY too fast, I don't care if that's how he is in real life, you don't have to leave your audience wondering what all you just said. Main character's girlfriend summed it up by saying "You're an as......" So I watched the whole movie and the guy didn't prove her wrong.
Complicated and a bit raw but worth the watch.
Easily the best movie I have seen for a while. Gives great insight into the genius of Mark Zuckerber and the push and pull of turning an idea into big business.
Even if you don't have the Internet, you will either like or dislike this movie about how Face Book got started.
pretty boring and not really worth watching
An interesting movie detailing the creation of Facebook. It's strange that something that connects so many people was created by a pack of social misfits.
Thought this movie was ok, not fantastic, but interesting. Didn't realise the creator of Facebook was not a very nice person - however guess the rich don't get rich for being nice.
Great inside into how all this modern technology comes into our lives. Well acted and directed.
I suspected Zuckerberg was/is a tool. This movie tells that story.
I hate this movie and I hate Facebook.
Enjoyed the film - interesting content.
Intriguing insight into the man I think the film's epilogue said was "the youngest billionaire in the world" (?) Yet, it didn't try to give you all the answers as to Mark Zuckerberg's motivations - it made the character presented in the film more human. Rather than presenting a black and white picture, there were nice shades of grey.
As a regular facebook user, I really enjoyed it. It's quite a wordy, intelligent film, with fastpaced dialogue at times. It probably wouldn't appeal to those looking for light entertainment.
My partner, who's not so into computer technology and facebook, became bored very quickly and bailed out halfway through.
Real life often makes the best story. I felt sorry AND angry at Mark at the end. I thought it was a very captivting drama.
A preview of the story behind a medium that we use everyday, but not very often wonder about. It was nice to see the human side of Mark Zuckerburg and his story.
great insight into the workings of the modern minds and their reality ,
Really good film, very informative. I understand now why the folks at facebook didn't want this film to be released.
Want to watch how Facebook was created and make millions of dollars? If you can handle the little child who develops the concept, you may enjoy the film. Not the most pleasant character.
I'm happy that I watched this movie and I am hapy to know where my beloved Facebook came from but, I could have lived without seeing it. I don't feel like I gained anything. I expected more and they could have added more.
Fascinating and intriguing considering it's based on a true story. Really enjoyable, gives you inspiration to succeed.
I could not understand the dialogue from these young actors. Had to put it on "Subtitle" to know what was going on!! I thought this movie was going to better than it was. Bit boring. Expected more.
Great movie, although after watching it I am seriously considering deleting my Facebook account.
I really enjoyed the movie. It had a very fast paced dialog. I found it a little hard to keep up. Maybe because I am not a genius? Interesting to see how facebook was founded. Not sure how much was fact/fiction...
Great movie that shows how Facebook came into being. Great actors. If you're wondering about the authenticity of the movie, a little googling afterwards should answer any questions (or perhaps create more!) Well worth watching!
Loved this one, it is a silicon valley fantasy .
Really good, excellent acting and interesting.
Great Movie - as good as the book
Great movie, Interesting characterisation but very hard to hear - without sub titles would have missed half the movie.
More geared to the young computer smart people, as 65 plussers, who are computer savvy, we found it hard to follow.
Good to finally see as many friends raved about it.... but its okay as a one off movie...
Once I got into it, very interesting but it took 3 attempts befroe I finally was able to get right through it. Dialogue really fast and at times hard to catch , am assuming that is what the characers are like in real life. Justin Timberlake character such an a&*hole. Is there anything that guy can't do?
good ..one time watch movie..!!!!
Really enjoyed this film. Actors were well cast & very interesting to see the story behind the face(book) :)
I found the Social Network is definitely not a movie to watch as well as indulge in crafts. Full concentration is required due to the flashbacks and dialogue otherwise you'll find yourself rewinding to get back on track. A good movie to get your teeth into. 3 stars.
Movie was ok, left me wondering how accurate it is??
Not a bad flick. Not as enjoyable as I was expecting but a good script, good acting and good production values.
Don't be mislead by the premise which sounds potentially dull. David Fincher's film has the writing and acting needed when dealing with a story about how a revolution in communication lead to the destruction of many people's personal lives. The Oscar nominations were well deserved, but there were a few better films from 2010.
Kept me interested the whole way through
Very very interesting on so many different levels.
Movie definately had a story to tell, and a seriously interesting one at that, but took soooooo loooong to tell it and moved slower than most glaciers. Fine acting was held back by a long wordy script which made it a very difficult movie to get through. Hard slog.
interesting story specially if it was true
Don't know what all the fuss was about. Found the dialogue very hard to understand. Why was it Oscar nominated?
I found this movie very informative and more interesting than I would have thought.
This movie did nothing to capture me, after many friends recommended it, was sadly disappointed.
Characters spoke far too fast and in a garbled manner that it was impossible to understand large segments. Apart from that it was utterly boring.
couldnt understand what i saw ... need to know a bit more about computers to really understand what they were talking about
Great story behind the true story. How tru it is, we can only guess. But guess it is a documentary made really exiting. Something for the entrepreneurial mind/
Very good performances; an excellent soundtrack and a fascinating account of the personalities behind the global Facebook phenomenon. Best Line " You're not an asshole, Mark; you're just trying really hard to be one." And the final scene was beautifully reflective.
great movie, very enjoyable and relevant.
i really enjoyed this movie. I think because its based on true life events it makes it more intriguing. It was a well scripted movie and kept you wondering and thinking the whole way through,
A few Q's i had are still answered, but i think it gave a rather true account of events.
Did he really take an idea and make it better? did he knowingly steal the idea from the twins?
I will let you decide.... Highly rated.
Interesting story - I had no idea of what had gone on behind the scenes of Facebook. Justin Timberlake was the big surprise, well cast and well-acted.
Only some parts and very little of it were somewhat interesting.. it should have been called 'Facebook'- "The Court Room Saga" not the Facebook The Social Network very misleading it was so drawn out I am glad I didnt go to the cinemas to watch this as I don't think I could have actually sat for that long through it all. I found myself in the middle of this turning on my computer to log into Facebook for something to do .. to save from the boredom of it all.. Its only rates 1 star but giving it 2 for someones genius idea of the movie in the first place not including that of the money it would make by the misled once again general public ..
Fantastic. Very entertaining.
Enjoyed the movie, but there seems to be more of a story to tell ... because it's ongoing that I was left feeling like ... well... what now?
the most boring film of the year
I fell asleep during this movie. I was disappointed as I am a user and fan of facebook.
Brilliant script, perfect casting and adept direction. A modern parable with exceptional pace and relevance.
A great movie - fabulous storyline - very clever
Interesting story about the birth of Facebook. A very stylish production.
I thought I was on speed for the first 60 minutes. Nauseatingly irritating 'teen rapid speak'. Thoroughly up himself child. Disliked it intently.
not bad for a nerd movie, what a cold man mark is
A really well put together movie...Very cool.
Excellent well paced movie with good story. Excellent music to keep it driving.
Seemed like an interesting story but it wasn't holding me glued to the screen. Kinda... 'meh'.
It wouldn't be the end of the world if you missed it, but okay
if you are interested in a bit of knowledge and want to know how Facebook stared out then this is the movie for you.
Enjoyed the movie, good storyline and the whole family watched it.
Probably the most boring movie I have ever seen.
Long awaited movie and well worth watching. Its amazing what can happen with a simple original idea well acted by Jesse Eisenberg.
Not big into social media but excellant yarn from one's perspective.
Very boring - maybe because the incessant conversations were so mumbled and garbled that much could not be heard. Stopped it after 30 mins
Very interesting to watch as a Facebook user.
Bit slow at the beginning and had trouble understanding the pub conversation - they talked very fast - but was a very interesting movie and well worth watching.
a really interesting insight. worth a look.
Jesse Eisenberg is excellent in his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg.
Confirms that there is no friendship where money is concerned.
Very interesting to see how Facebook got started. Well worth the watch.
Loved it. Very entertaining even for the computer illiterate.
Slow to start, but worth watching.
The movie sure lived up to all the hype that the media and my friends had created about it. The acting of Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake was briliant, it was well executed, the script well written and the score was beautiful to listen to. I was focused on the movie the entire time - never distracted. A must watch for anyone with interest in social networking and technology
Well written, well acted and well executed. This film was very entertaining and cleverly written.
Movie was satisfactory. Disappointed that MZ ended up losing his friend. Was it worth it? Billions of dollars ... I'm sure alot would answer yes. Those with a sense of morale I'm sure would answer no.
5/10... Points only as based on a true story
Interesting to view as to how Facebook was started, should have concentrated more with as to how it became so popular
Interesting and relevant but too long for my liking.
The first 10 minutes or so are hard to watch as they speak so fast! Not sure if they slowed down or I got used to it but I enjoyed the movie after that. Worth watching.
I really enjoyed The Social Network. Jesse Eisenberg was brilliant as was Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake. Quite an interesting insight into how Facebook all got started and how Zuckerberg was given an idea, and ran with it. He certainly doesn't come out looking the best from this film, and sympathies definately lie with Eduardo and those cheated by Zuckerberg. But I highly recommend this to anyone. Well worth seeing.
Definately overrated. I don't understand all the rave reviews. Having said that, it's not bad. Script was good but I wasn't blown away. This movie really makes Zuckerberg look like an ass.
Thought I was going to turn it off after the opening 15 mins of geek speak, but the movie got better as it went along. Good lesson about greed, signing contracts, and patent on intellectual property.
Interesting to watch especially when we are so familiar with Facebook.
Give us a background how FB came out and its fascinating to know someone is super smart.
Brilliant and believable well executed
Good movie, although could have been better casted.
Interesting but if you do not like lawsuits dont watch. The story has sadness following the ladder to success and fame.
Interesting film making.. Was not into it at first, but in reflection was very well done.
I thought this would be a lot better than it was. Friends had said it's brilliant. I disagree. It was good, but quite frustrating. Made me dislike Mark Zuckerberg and I kept wondering how much of this is true. After I watched it, it really made me question having a Facebook account, he just doesn't seem like a "nice" person at all.
I really feel like deleting my facebook account after watching this movie. What a horrible character! I wouldn't say you had to know a lot about computers to be able to watch this movie as some others have mentioned. Not something I'd watch again.
Boaring computer buffs only
Wow! This took a bit of getting into, felt it was a bit heavy and had to watch it twice over to get the jist of the story. Still quite interesting,a bit rough.
Just goes to show, how a little idea can go along way. Not sure about Justin's role...
Slow start - and the continual flashback/flashforward was a tad discombobulating (the missus gave up and went to bed). And you needed to know a lot of computerese to understand the plot. However, I perservered and it encouraged me to revive my own Facebook account (and I've contacted quite a few long lost friends in the past couple of days). Mark Zuckerberg came across as shifty and devious and I believe the other factions deserved the payouts.
Just couldn't get into this movie. Don't know what the fuss was about. It had its moments, but very slow.
Excellent movie - thoroughly recommended viewing.
Interesting to know how Facebook came about in the beginning, but thats about all. Good movie for the computer literate! Good movie for teenagers. Found it a bit boring
Absolutely fantastic! Very sad however, in that if we are to believe the story, his friend got 'done' in the end.
Brilliant, loved it. Good for him - just goes to show all the qualifications in the world can't over come shear talent and gifted brilliance.!
Slow to begin with ..but persevere through the introductions, keep following and you will learn how this wonderful world of Social networks became reality...
Although I found it hard to like the character of Mark Zuckerberg, as the film certainly raises doubts as to whether he did pirate the Facebook idea, there is no denying he is a genius. If it wasn't for the fact that the movie had a very interesting storyline which held my attention I would find it difficult to recommend to my friends.
Wow - what an amazing movie! I am so, so, so tempted to cancel my Facebook account. That's how strongly this movie resonates. I realise this isn't a true life account of Mark Zukerberg but it must be close to it. The Social Network showcases two truly hideous douchbags who will no doubt carry on. The reason Zukerberg and Parker are successful is that they realised long ago that young people think free is cool and young people never question what their details are being used for or by who. Perhaps they'll start thinking now.
Good! Nobody will follow a nerd like Mark Zukerberg or take him as an idol (unless he mi himself is a berd); however, this movie has given me some backgrounds about Facebook and his creators/shareholders.
I am afraid that the dialogue was carried out so quickly much of the story line was lost on me.
Great movie, loved the characters and story line
Great film, very interesting, wonderful acting and score.
I really wanted to cancel out of facebook after seeing this film. I thought the central character was despicable and I hated watching him succeed despite being so awful
Interesting to note that the guy without any social graces whatsoever (as portrayed) gets to (co-)found a social networking site. It was only by activating English subtitles that I had any clue as to the dialogue such was its rapidity. At the beginning I was half-expecting Chevy Chase to make an appearance.
excellent.... brilliant screenplay and performance.
Quite interesting but hard to know what these guys are talking about sometimes.
Not as good as one would have expected, the last 15mins was the most interesting. I found it quite boring for the best part of it.
Good story, more so because it is true. The dialogue is a bit fast and hard to grasp but gets easier as the movie progresses.
Boring switched off after 30 mins?
Self-obsessed computer geek becomes a success despite his obvious social inadequacies. Interesting study of the me generation whose shallow obsession with the now only goes to show that the internet does not deliver true togetherness and awareness.
Great movie, very interesting. They all talk too fast and if you are not tech savy you may have trouble with the lingo. Overall an insightful flick.
This is an incredible true story, great on so many levels - and also very scary. We watched it through three times and still shake our heads in amazement.
Intriguing viewing. It's almost like a documentary on how Facebook was founded but turn it up a few notches, add some hollywood tabasco sauce, add a few spoonfuls of lawyers, dollops of harvard speak and you have The Social Network. Still can't figure out who the villain is....
Extremely well written and directed film. Fast moving, intelligent. Great cast!
Why is everyone so excited by this movie? Apart from it's historical significance, I don't get why all the hoopla...
The characters are annoying but the acting is good, and hey, it's based on the true story of how Facebook got so big. Inspiring for any geeks out there and interesting for the rest of us!
surprisingly credible take on a modern superstar
Terrific movie. Very entertaining and good storyline.
This is an extreamly good movie. the first 15 minutes my be tough for some people to get into, but if u do keep watching this moviw will become some weird type on inteanse. Seance are shot amazingly, the rowing sceane is my favourite in the slow motion and the loud music playing. The actingf but everyone is top notch. The storyline my sound boring but it very fast paced and is some what sad.5/5
We thought this movie was terrible, they talk so fast you can hardly follow what is going on and the characters were so annoying.
Loved it!!! Entertaining and informitive. :)
While we thought The King's Speech outdid this for overall movie experience, this is an excellent piece of work. Brilliantly written, directed and acted, it makes the story really interesting. Not sure how much faith we can have in the accuracy of it all, but it makes for intruiging viewing. Terrific.
First 5 minutes is irritating (on purpose we think) but once you get past that it is a really good movie. Don't let the start put you off, good storyline once it gets going.
Simply put, a fantastic movie that is (rarely) worth all the hype it has received. I am honestly opposed to all these Social Networking Sites (35 yo going on 50) and certainly do not have a Facebook account and i guess that allowed me to watch this movie from a clearer perspective, take away the mention of FaceBook and it almost becomes a modern day Wall Street, yes indeed when you talk in terms of Billions of Dollars then it seems as though Greed is still Good !!
really great watch even though I've never used facebook, is an inspiring movie and worth seeing
Enjoyed watching this film, I find the character Mark very interesting. Highly recommend
Fascinating stuff; a bit like watching history being made, very recent history at that. It doesn't matter too much whether or not it's entirely accurate. Just showing the way facebook may have eventuated makes it real enough. The downside of the movie is that many of the conversations are hard to follow and the constant switching between the litigation table and the actual events takes some getting used to.
Brilliantly cast...fascinating insight into the beginnings
By far, the best movie I have seen in the last year. Jesse Eisenberg, as Mark Zuckerberg, was absolutely wonderful.
A chronicle of the founding of Facebook, the social-networking Web site. Outstanding movie. Very enjoyable.
Struggled to follow it in the early stages but glad I perservered as really enjoyed it by the end and found it extremely interesting to see Facebook's beginnings and rocky legal journey! Can't believe the dollars involved.....!!!
A really well-crafted and engaging movie, well deserving of all the accolades that it has received. If you spend any time on facebook than this is essential viewing, but you don't need to be to enjoy the human dramas that unfold so wonderfully. There are a few weaker performances, but these are few.
Believe the hype; Aaron Sorkin's Oscar-winning screenplay is brilliant while Jesse Eisenberg is captivating in the lead role.
I honestly thought I wouldn't enjoy this movie, but I rented it out of pure curiosity, but it held my attention all the way through, I now wish I could meet Mark personally and congratulate him on being a massive Geek with perspective and the balls to see it through.
My name is Naomi and I am a facebook-aholic, so ofcourse I was interested in how this all started. Very interesting movie!
Found this a little tricky to follow at times. There was just no let up from lots of technical talk and dialogue. It needed some still, quiet moments to make more of an impact because it just kept switching back/forth/camera angle until I was just exhausted. At the same time, I have very little interest in facebook but still found the story interesting and thought the performances were great.
Interesting, but not particularly entertaining.. I should've done something better with my time. Computer geeks may find this inspiring.
Movie is waste of time, it glosses over the lies, plagerism and the fact money was poured into facebook. Yet ANOTHER lame performace by Jessie. Where did they find such a lame duck, send toss this undersized smirk machine back to school. The movie is nothing more than paid advertising to pump Zuckerberg ego. The only truth in this movie is the credits and Zuckerburg is prime name behind facebook, rest is what he wants you to think.
Interesting, somewhat compellingly fascinating to see how dot.com billionaire geeks get started.
I wish I was in on it.
Flashbacks were confusing at first bt 2003 and legal actions. Justin Timberlake's character was annoying to say the least. May buy when on dvd to purchase.
