A Mexican town is terrorised by a bandit that no one, except for a priest, has the courage to stand up to. The bandit, however, blackmails the priest by threatening a young woman. The priest is then forced to act on the bandit's behalf, before eventually denouncing him with dramatic consequences.

I've seen this film afew times late at night on ABC & SBS, It's got to be one of the most original "Western-Cowboy" films I've ever seen, For once the great Dirk Bogarde plays the bad guy NOT the young faced hero like his other movies, He is great as the head of an evil gang, causing terror to the townsfolk, they also got too the old preist, taunting him until he almost dies from a heart attack( I can't remember if he lies to get a "new" Preist to takeover, the "new" Preist is tough not as old as the other one, nor is he a push over but he's a lover not a fighter, played by old screen legend John Mills, both Mills & Bogarde play off each other as they do battle AS good VS evil, Can this Preist find the "good" in an evil heart? Who will survive? with a classic shoot up at the end, also the other strange thing about this movie is that there are some hints of gay themes in this movie almost between the Preist & the bandit, plus Dirks bandit wears an all black leather outfit(kinky for the old west! ha,ha) He also flirts with a young virgin girl who is under the care of the Preist, he does his best to break her will(maybe he is the first Bi-Cowboy in movie history?) this has become a Cult Classic, try it.
