Things are different for the Pontipee men now that big brother Adam's fetched a bride and brought her to their cabin. Indeed, the unwed brothers are so inspired that they raid the town and carry off brides of their own! Like a favourite flannel shirt, everything fits right in this rugged whoop-for-joy directed by Stanley Donan, choreographed by Michael Kidd and featuring an exhilarating Gene dePaul/Johnny Mercer score that won an Academy Award. Jane Powell and Howard Keel star, supported by a cast of buckskinned dancers and petticoated danseuses. And what steppin'! The barnraising sequence alone - back-flipping, plank-leaping athleticism - leaves a daylong smile. "Bless Yore Beautiful Hide," all you brides and brothers!

A wonderful classic that can still provide a wonderful experience to newer audiences. I will always remember the day I first saw this movie with my beloved.

Another 5 star movie. This is without a doubt one of my favourites of all time. I may be of a different generation, regarding myself as one of the original Rock 'n' Rollers - but - I know what I like - and - there were many happy feelings in the viewing audience. They don't make movies like this one anymore. Shame!

A great 50s musical. Dancing is amazing, especially in the barn raising scene. Great singing too. Main negative is the background scenery - very cheap. I read that the budget was dropped - you can tell.

I have loved this movie since I was a child, mum always said it was the one movie guaranteed to keep me glued to the tv,without moving or talking. It is still my favourite to this day after watching it for 38 years, I will continue to watch it for another 38. I know all the songs, and most of the script by heart, would watch it probably at least once every few months. A real feel good movie, with good old fashioned handsome men and beautiful women. Up there with Calamity Jane as my all time favourite movie. Just love Howard Keel, would love to see it on the big screen before I die

A classical musical that was even more enjoyable this time - many, many years have since pasted. The songs classics, the singing was refreshingly engaging, tripping down memory lane. The dancing was fabulous and even the dated story line touched nostalgia recalling those days gone bye. View, look and enjoy - highly recommended!

1950s patriarchal rape scenario complete with singing & dancing. Not for those with feminist sensibilities! :)

Not a hint of method acting, no meaningful looks, no mumbling. Also no murders, no crime to solve. Just a great story, marvellous music and unforgettable characters. They just don't make them like this anymore, a real pity.

Interesting as a historical piece - the sentiments don't sit too well these days.
