Diane Lane gets her strong indepedent woman on in this great 'based on a true story' flick. Even though it's supposed to be about the horse, it's more about Penny Chenery Tweedy (Lane) and her determination to save her father's farm and business reputation. John Malkovich is always fabulous and surprisingly as the movie progresses his Lucien Laurin (trainer extraordinaire) just gets better and better.
Make sure you take a few minutes to watch the 'Special Features' on the disc and the story about the real life Secretariat. What a phenomenal animal!
If you think you've seen enough thoroughbred horse racing movies before (eg, Seabiscuit) and don't need to see another, think again. This is an incredible and in the end, absolutely unbelievable, true story that will leave you thrilled. Seabiscuit et al are about 30 lengths behind this movie. A must see for the whole family.
Enjoyed it but it's hardly original. Still, a pleasant enough way to spend some time.
Though we had to endure lots of horse racing, the story behind it was a good one,I enjoyed this more than expected
It was okay just a bit too over the top with hollywood dramtice
A great feel good film. Nice see we can still make movies that entertain without violence and bad language.
The movie was a bid slow and some of the acting sub-standard. The cinematography was a bit disappointing. Apart from that, not a terribly bad film.
Realized I had seen it before and enjoyed it but didn't really want to see it again but would recommend. Fan of Diane Lane
a great movie all about a famous horse in america that won by 31 lengths which is unheard of, great family viewing movie
Inspiring movie to watch! Feel good.
this movie provided some very good entertainment for all members of my family from grandchildren to adults, it had everything drama tears and comedy. diane lane as always delieved a very convincing portrail of her character along with john malkovich this combination was a winner.
triumph of the heart and soul, a good lesson about going with what you feel is fate sometimes needs a lot of courage.
Excellent movie - to be enjoyed by all the family
Loved this movie and so kid my daughter. We are horsey people so was right up our alley. Still was a very good feel good movie.
An entertaining family movie for 6yo through to grandparents.
Inspiring story of a great woman and horse. Quite a leap of faith.
This is a very uplifting movie. As all the other reviewers have said: No horses died as part of the story line. :)) The epilogue referring it as the greatest horse to ever live might be strongly challenged by Phar Lap supporters, or the more fans experiencing Black Cavier fever.
excellent movie very enjoyable
Lovely film. Great for whole family.
A great family movie and a heart warming tale of a great horse. The main actors played their roles well (including the horse)
Lovely story. Heartwarming tale of the great Secretariat.
Rachael Mc Adams does herself well as the wife who inherits
the horse stud farm, and is there for the birth of this wonderhorse.
Recommend it to any person, horeslover or not.
Very very good. Loved it.
Great movie, inspirational
"Feel good" family movie. Bit dated but still well worth watching - nice to see a woman in the main role for a change!
A wonderfully uplifting family movie. Found myself cheering for Secretariat.
Great true story. Heartwarming. Set in 70's.
Fantastic movie, really enjoyed it
A beautiful movie, historically correct, a wonderful film
Great movie, definitely watch this one....
One of the most enjoyable films we have watched in a while - and being true, was so believable
A feel good movie for the whole family and definately worth watching. Based on a true story about the great American racehorse, Secretariat, the storyline is predictable but engrossing.
Beautiful story, thoroughly enjoyed it.. Would recommend this movie.
My wife loves horses and horse movies, I hate horses and horse movies, however we both loved this film. This film is far more than just a horse film, it is about having a go and running your race. A MUST SEE.
loved it great true story
Must see for those who enjoy a good wholesome story, great for kids and adults together.
What a beautiful story, Just a nice lovely movie to watch.
It's a bit squeaky clean overall, well it is a disney flick, but a very good story about real people and events. Worth a look
This is a must watch ,i sat in my seat and did not move throughout the entire movie all the actors played supburb roles , if anyone needs a real feel good movie this is it . i give it 5 stars great story.and just a few tears .
Secretariat was a lovely family movie. Easy to watch. A heartwarming story about an amazing horse.
As a dedicated horse person, I totally enjoyed this movie which was nice to without the violence, blood & gore which accompanies many movies these days.
If you liked Sea Biscuit, you'll like this. I'm not big into movies like these much myself, but Disney has a beautiful way of making a good wholesome way to waste 90 minutes.
Worth a look
A wonderfully heart-warming and thrilling story. The Secretariat is truly inspirational and just proves how persistence, dedication and being totally passionate about what one believes in, wins in the end.
A real feel good movie.Great story line.
Very Walt Disney, book was so much better.
What can I say but brilliant movie !! Loved it !! Agree with 'Julie' (reviewer below) Seabiscuit is another movie I saw and thought was brilliant.
What a wonderful movie enjoyed it very much and well worth watching
Love tht horse, bit of a dream family movie.
Absolutely loved this movie. The horse racing scenes were thrilling and the horse is gorgous. Lovely scenery, good acting and a movie that the whole family will enjoy. I went straight out and bought myself a copy so I can watch it again and again at home. If you loved the movie "Seabiscuit", it's as good if not better.!.
A horse that loved to race. A very nice movie set in the early 1970s where a housewife inherits a racefarm and a chance to truly believe in herself again. The story flows nicely, John Malkovich's role is brilliant and quirky, adds some humour. An amazing story well told.
