The secret life of bees, based on the New York Times best selling novel and set in South Carolina in 1964, is the moving tale of Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning) a 14-year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother (Hilarie Burton). To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father (Paul Bettany), Lily flees with Rosaleen (Jennifer Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo and Alicia Keys), Lily finds solace in their mesmerising world of bee-keeping, honey and the Black Madonna.

Well - the secret life of bees remains a secret - they sent me an incompatable CD
. . . Also I notice it seems an old disc . .perhaps that did not help

Bit of a midday matinee this one. A good ensemble cast and strong performance from Dakota with a southern drawl. Paul Bettany pops up in an unusual role as well as her abusive father. If you like The Colour Purple and similar films, this one should please.

Don't let the title put you off! Brilliantly acted by all except Alicia Keys (sorry). Beautiful characters, interesting story. Highly recommended!

Dakota played Lilly real well, the story was very moving, sad but interesting and very touching. But would say more a "girlie" movie. Well worth a watch

A great cast that made this a very good movie. Each character was intriguing. Intense, maybe even dark at times, but a terrific portayal of America in that time. Quite a moving tale. A definate must-see.

I liked it, had a little teary moment here and there and it was (what I call) a real "American" story. I don't know much about Dakota Fanning but I liked her in this role. Keep some tissues handy.
