Director: John Ford
Actors: John Wayne, Natalie Wood, Ward Bond, Vera Miles, Jeffrey Hunter

With The Searchers, John Wayne and director John Ford forged an indelible saga of the frontier and the men and women who challenged it. Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, an ex-Confederate who sets out to find his niece, captured by Comanches who massacred his family. He won't surrender to hunger, thirst, the elements or loneliness. And in his obsessive quest, Ethan finds something unexpected: his own humanity. One of the most influential movies ever made, The Searchers contains sequences that are "a brilliant fusing of editing, camerawork and performance as filtered through a master director's eyes" (Ted Sennett, Great Hollywood Westerns).

Good old fashion western, one of the better John Wayne movies, I am sure the people who lived in that time did not find it easy, Very good all round movie.

This is an excellent movie. I'm not a big John Wayne and never thought that he could really act, but he is very good in this. I only watched it because it was reviewed on the ABC's 'At the Movies'. John Wayne's character is a dark and tormented figure with many personal demons to content with. There is also some comedy in the movie, which I didn't expect. Even if you think you don't particularly like Westerns this is worth the time and trouble to watch. A Classic!

A hard and tough movie. John Wayne is great as a man full of conflicting beliefs. A bit of an epic adventure.

Although it is tame compared to modern westerns and some of the necessary subtlety will be misunderstood this is a prestigious classic by any yardstick. John Wayne's portrayal of a rascist, nearly psychotic man's search for his kidnapped niece is perhaps his best performance on screen. John Ford's film explores many classic themes and creates a wonderful story that is immensely entertaining.
