Director: John Badham
Actors: John Travolta, Donna Pescow, Karen Lynn Gorney

John Travolta gives a sensual and intelligent performance as the troubled Tony Manero - Brooklyn paint store clerk by day and undisputed king of the dance floor by night. Every Saturday, Tony puts on his wide collared shirt, flared trousers and platform shoes and heads out to the only place where he's seen as a god rather than some young punk. But in the darkness, away from from the strobe lights and glitter ball, is a tragic story of disillusionment, violence and heartbreak. Without a doubt, Travolta's performance made him a Hollywood legend, but Saturday Night Fever is more than just a movie that defined the music and fashion of a generation. It's a powerful and provocative urban tragedy that carries as much significance today as it did in 1977.

Didn't like Travolta when I first saw this but have since come to realise how well he played the part in this movie. Not entirely my cup of tea but a good movie.

A classic film and a wonderful piece of 70s nostalgia. It's a shame to see John Travolta's career have so many ups and downs when he gives the silver screen such lovable performances. Whether or not you're into disco, dance, John Travolta or the 70s, I think that seeing this film should be a priority.

A classic film. A significant marker of the decade that was the 70's. Recently read another review that described Travolta as a peacock strutting on amphetamines. Sure there is some language going on but not a patch on some recent films. And this was originally released with an R rating. The dance floor moves are sumthin else...sigh, if only these clubs were around today. I would be there in a flash, white suit and platform shoes a go-go.

This is not a family film - note there is very bad language - and some shocking sex scenes. This is not for the kids. When you put the kids to bed watch this film - you will love it despite its harsh realistic life in Brooklyn in the early 80s. It's worth watching just to see John Travolta's dance scenes that not even Michael Jackson compete with. This film is wonderful!

Crude language, harsh family scenes, shocking sex scenes, spoil the terrific Bee Gees musical score and some great dancing

I found this film pretty woeful and depressing. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. I've seen John Travolta do better acting, than what he did in this. Can't say much about the fashions. The highlight for me was the music, I grew up on the BEE GEES.

Great disco dancing from John Travolta but the language is deplorable and the story line is very dark. Great music from the Bee gees.
