When Britain's leading fisheries expert is approached by a consultant to help realize a sheikh's vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert, he immediately thinks the project is both absurd and unachievable. I'm a little bewildered by this film... YEMAN. Really. One of the driest countries in the world, currently in a drought which is forcing thousands to move, one of the poorest, without any oil resources (that could ever pay for THIS), with some of the worst human rights violations... including the kidnapping of girls from other countries and forcing them to be brides... Parts of Yeman are beautiful, sure, but ... Did the director get a big map of the middle east and just pick out at random the country he had heard least about? It's very hard to suspend belief enough to actually enjoy the film.

Salmon spawning in the desert? Rich man's folly or community pipe dream? This is what we are invited to consider with this film. Ewan McGregor is Alfred or Fred, fish expert, fly inventor, civil servant who is reluctantly recruited as the consultant on this 'feel-good' antidote to the war in Afghanistan; Emily Blunt handles the sheikh's investments in the UK. Kristin Scott-Thomas is funny as the PM's press secretary, almost bordering on being OTT but having worked with a similar PR-type ...

This is a warm-hearted movie about an improbable venture in the Yemeni desert. It's an original idea but is let down by predictable one-dimensional characters, particularly the sheik who is poorly cast. Also you can see the corny plot coming from a mile away. However, it is still a good choice if you are looking for some light frothy entertainment.

Nice, feel good movie. This is great family movie which all ages can watch. It has a great storyline, top notch actors and wonderful scenery. Totally under-rated. Enough drama and punch for the adults, adventure and good dialogue for the younger ones.

When this was released to Cinemas I thought 'now way, that aint for me!' however this is a great film, dialogue pretty week in some places but made up for with a 'nice' romantic side plot and an improbable main plot that comes off. I enjoyed this despite my initial reservations.

2 1/2 stars really. Quite a bland movie with good acting performances. Safe watching but I'm a bit of a risk taker so this movie won't linger in my mind but I do love Kristin. And nice to hear her speaking english for a change.

Gave up after 40 minutes - found it really boring. Plot was unbelievable, script was stilted and unconvincing, characters unlikeable, factual mistakes - Yemen does not have oil. Big mistake borrowing this one.

Slow, easy, wonderful love story unfolding. If you are into action, this probably isn't for you, but I loved it. It kept my interest all the way, I loved the quiet humour and watching this love story happen quietly in front of my eyes. Good way to spend a couple of hours.

A salmon expert and financial consultant join forces to help a sheik realise his dream. A romance that despite being little off beat comes across as a little dull. Pleasant enough but not much more.

I really loved this movie, especially as I really like both Ewan & Emily. Storyline was slow, yes, but for me it was still a "feel good" movie & enjoyable to watch. Inevitable finish to be sure, but didn't mind, so just sit back & hopefully it will give you a warm feeling.

I was really looking forward to seeing this and although the movie was enjoyable, the characters seemed to lack depth and somehow it seemed overly long. Nice story but so predictable in too many areas.

Quite slow to start but makes a good story of romance and the coming together of people of different nations. An almost impossible task is set to introduce salmon fishing to the Yemen. Salmon fishing, of course relying on cold water.

I enjoyed this movie very, very much it wasn't as straight forward as most romantic comedy's (don't think I would call it a comedy at al l! ! !). it was a pleasant easy to watch movie with good storyline and great acting. Don't go far as to say I would purchase a copy for our own home libruary BUT could certainly watch it again sometime.

In general I am not a big fan of romantic comedies but this one has additional elements such politics, "science versus faith" arguments, Yemen, etc. Therefore three stars and not two. But would not watch it again. The love story very boring. But Highly recommended if you are into fly fishing, for sure!

Good fun when it's focused on political ridiculousness in London, but loses momentum each time the story moves to Scotland or to the Yemen. The love story is predictable and inevitable, and doesn't do a lot for the movie other than fill in a lot of the running time.

A gentle, if very predictable British rom-com that is enjoyable without being particularly memorable. The leads are all terrific, particularly Kirstin Scott Thomas, who steals every scene she appears in.
