Strong violence

Director: Johannes Roberts
Actors: Oliver James, Eliza Bennett, Stephen Rea, Kacey Barnfield, Ned Dennehy, Diarmuid Noyes, Eve Macklin

Kate Colby's packed and ready to go - maybe not to law school just yet, but rather on a road trip with her brother Joel and their best friends from high school. One last fling before everybody moves on. During a stopover outside of Sioux Falls, a heated run-in with gypsies at a roadside fair takes a violent turn. The gypsy commune isn't happy. The warning that Kate and her friends will all suffer dearly follows them deep into the night. Vengeance was promised, and it arrives swooping out of the clouds. Legend calls it the Simuroc, a gigantic bird of prey with a stabbing beak, talons like Ginsu knives and an insatiable hunger for flesh.

There is a fair amount of 'average' here. I would like to know if this would be classed as a 'c grade' film or its just 'b grade'. Not as bad as Plaguers though. It has maybe 1 or 2 ok scenes, the rest of the movie is pretty bad. the girls are pretty... maybe that will help?

Ok, so this is a Si-Fi original movie, so if you've seen one before, you know the sort of quality to expect. Some of the make-up effects are pretty good (slashed faces), but the actual creature is a little bit underwhelming. The story is pretty silly - a bunch of loudmouthed Americans on holidays insult the locals, then run over and kill an old lady, who curses them with her dying breath. Seems that there's a giant bird which can be summoned to kill people, and the only way to survive is to get your hands on a mystical necklace that repels the creature. Nothing real new for the genre, and it just gets a bit tedious after a while. In hindsight, I probably should have read the plot description a bit closer before I hired this and saved myself 88 minutes of indifference.
