Director: Howard Hawks
Actors: John Wayne, Dean Martin, Angie Dickinson, Ward Bond, Walter Brennan, Ricky Nelson, John Russell, Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez, Estelita Rodriguez

On one side is an army of gunmen dead-set on springing a murderous sidekick from jail. On the other is Sheriff John T. Chance and his two deputies: one a drunk, the other a cripple. Place your bets.
John Wayne is Chance in Rio Bravo, a lean Western classic packing solid heroics and a strong emotional core. He's joined by Dean Martin as the deputy coming off a two-year drunk, Walter Brennan as the old coot whose spirit outmatches his hobbled stride, Ricky Nelson as a youth out to prove himself and Angie Dickinson as a scarlet woman with her eyes on Chance. Director Howard Hawks lifted the Western to new heights with Red River. Capturing the legendary West with a stellar cast in peak form, he does it again here.

Must have been one of Dean Martins first. Staring John Wayne. Well enough made 3 stars in it's genre.

This is a great movie. Watching it for the cast alone it is worth seeing. It is your standard western plot, but the banter between the John Wayne and the other cast members makes it enjoyable. Classic western. Highly recommended!

A classic John Wayne western with Dean Martin and others. Great colour and good action with a hint of romance (Angie Dickinson). Dean Martin with Ricky Nelson sing "My Rifle, My Pony and Me" with Walter Brennan providing musical accompaniment while John Wayne contentedly watches on - a classic western song. A nice feel good Western - Recommended!

A great old movie with a classic style of acting. My biggest disappointment is that the copy I received misses a crucial 5 minutes of exposition after the opening scene, showing how John Wayne took on the "drunk" and the "cripple" to help guard the prisoner. Apart from that flaw, a fabulous example of the Duke at his best, even is he has to stand around looking slightly embarassed while Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin have their mandatory duet.

Another of my husband's favourites, according to him one of the best westerns ever and a movie to be watched again and again.

A classic western not to be missed ? Maybe. Drags a little and takes a while to get going, but still excellent viewing. If you're a JW or Dino fan you'll love it.

Truly must be John Waynes best ever Western. Although a different actress to his normal westerns. In this movie, and this story line the choice was perfect. the chemistry between John Wayne and Angie Dickinson, was surperb, as they bounced off each other. Brillaint dialogue, acting, action. Five star quality viewing.
