Certainly not the Red Riding hood I was expecting but I did expect a creepy one and it was as an ok movie .
Could not get into this film at all...
A beautifully shot movie - the scenery was breathtaking and the town itself was an amazing set. Gripping twists throughout the witch-hunt - who is the wolf? The acting by the two young love interests was in no way believeable and the summary tells the entire story, but a great movie to get lost in for an afternoon.
The story of Red Riding Hood as it is tends towards being dark. The idea of being stalked by a semi-unfriendly monster through a journey, culminating in the monster stealing the skin of your loved ones is a paranoid fantasy of the highest order. This takes that paranoia and turns it into a love triangle where the main character is an emotionless shell of a girl consoled by the line "It's okay that your sister died. You're the pretty one."
The fairy tale is acceptable. As dark fantasy it is a brilliant exploration of paranoid schizophrenia. This movie is neither, "fitting" into mythology and dark fantasy the same way the Twilight movies "fit". If you value fairy tales, dark fantasy or even moderately emotive acting, avoid.
I will credit the cinematographer, the film is brilliantly shot, but it isn't enough to save this monstrosity.
acceptable fairy tale turned hollywood movie. only thing that stands out is the beautiful amanda seyfried.
Really enjoyed it, a great take on the old story!!
Not what I expected but really enjoyed the movie. An interesting twist on the old fable
I personally love dark fairytales and this one didn't disappoint. Magnificent cinematography. Loved it.
I really enjoyed this film far more than I thought I would. It was beautifully shot, well acted and kept me guessing until the end.
It’s very Twighlight-ish & fans of that sort of genre won’t mind this. Amanda Seyfried is far less annoying than that other chick. Quality movie production.
We liked this movie did not think we would.
Very annoyed watching this as it kept freezing and pixeling. I tried 2 dvd players and it happened on both of them.
Quite liked this one. Beautifully filmed in the most glorious location/s for starters, it was an interesting adult spin on the childrens tale. Good casting including Gary Oldman to bring some creepy to the story (with his long silver nails). Very entertaining - I didn't pick the ending which kept me riveted.
cinematography was amazing, really beautiful pictures. The acting was ok in places, and they did keep you guessing till the end about who's the bad guy. All together a good retelling of the Brothers Grimm classic. Just alittle oo much teen angst.
Don't know how I came to choose this movie, I really don't enjoy sci-fi. Maybe I thought it was the real Red Riding Hood story and ordered it for my grandchildren to watch! Thank goodness I discovered that mistake in time. Did not enjoy this film and fell asleep twice.
I was rapt in this film. Pleasantly surprised at the fact that the violence in it was not disturbing but rather suspense like.
Red Riding Hood, rate this movie 2 stars, quite boring actually
Given the fact the director of this movie also directed the first Twilight, you can see some similarities. The young girl, falling for the guy she is not meant to, the young good looking men, the wolf... also the dad from Twilight is the dad in this movie too... Nothing really special...
It did keep you guessing though not as much suspense as expected.
Not what I expected at all ... nothing special.
Was pleasantly surprised with this, very enjoyable .. not what I had envisaged, but a great story line and good special effects.
A terrific spin on this fable! Excellent acting...
Great suspense. You never know who the villan really is till the end.
Fine movie,but nothing special.
Beautifully filmed (although the woods looked too much like the stage sets that it was) but ruined by a very silly plot-line and bad acting. The central Little Red Riding Hood character was very passive to the point she did nothing rather than be the girl in the middle of a dumb love triangle (and at times I couldn't tell the difference between the boys she was torn between). The special effects used when the wolf killed off hosts of holy soliders woke me up a few times, but even that was badly handled. Had a hilarious scene when LRH got jealous so did a 'lesbian' dance like olden day crumping to make one of her boys jealous. I replayed THAT a few times.
Shiloh Fernandez.. Hello!! Great movie.. Even better than I thought it would be. Loved what they did with the story.
Little Red Riding Hood as we knew it as children flies right out the window in this movie of good v evil. I agree with some of the other viewers, similar in many ways to "The Village", but for me, thats where it ends. Thoroughly enjoyed this movie & a great "who done it" as well. Just who is the wolf? See if you can pick it before its exposed. Quite graphic in parts & certainly not one for the children.
well, just not bad, but not good.
Mixture of Twilight and extended fairytale, but not very well done. Not for children. Maybe I expected more, after a promising beginning
Wasn't sure about this movie until half way through.
a cross between "little Red Riding Hood", "The Village" and "The Crucible" - and not very well. The story was mildly ok but the acting was quite bad. Nothing new, original or clever about it.
Loved this film, pleasantly suprised & enjoyed it thoroughly - reccommend for anyone that likes thrillers without too much violence
Really good, much better than we expected.
Absolutely loved the suspense in this movie!!!
If you're looking for Kubrik or Scorsese you're in the wrong ballpark.
If you're looking for a M. Night Shyamalan fun story you're in the right place.
I bought it. It sits between 16 Blocks and DejaVu.
I really enjoyed this movie, although it was a bit slow to start off with... ended up being good.
A bad re-hash of The Village with the tale of little red riding hood randomly referenced throughout.
This is a fairly predictable retelling of an old story but not the story of Red Riding Hood, rather the story of good v evil and authority v 'the people'. It needs to be viewed accepting that this seems to be a toungue-in-cheek movie ranging from the overbearing settings to the small asides (visually and verbally) that the maker included. The saving grace is that the ending (who is the wolf?) was a well kept secret thus engaging viewer who is willing (as you are in these movies) to suspend belief. A nice fantasy romp with an obvious sequel set-up.
Seyfried is possibly the only thing saving this film from complete flop. She's compelling to watch, with her big expressive eyes. While watching it, I wondered how wooden the acting of the various roles needed to be to satisfy the demands of the control-freaking director. It was filmed like a stage play and in a very unnatural way, like every word, movement and bat of an eyelid was controlled. This was all not necessarily for a fairly small budget special effects movie. If you want to see a good one where the director lets talented actors have some expression see "Outlander". A much better film for the film-type.
I enjoyed this movie. But wouldent go out of my way to say it was anything fantastic. I found the whole "Dark red riding hood version" to be rather cheesy.
Cast memebers appear to have been picked from soap operas, storyline trying to be clever (but fails miserably), overacting and overstated. Only slightly decent thing i can say about this movie is the animation of the werewolf- but that still doesn't override any of the many negative aspects of this movie. Please avoid if possible.
It is a great spin on a traditional fairy tale, but it lacked conviction. Plagued by bad acting and scripting the film started strong but begun its downward slope from the middle, topped off with a very mediocre ending which made no sense to Amanda Seyfried's characters morals regarding the werewolf.
Some really bad acting but good story and special effects. Atmospheric cinematography .
How bad can a movie get?I'm not sure what time or era it was supposed to be set,but I'm pretty sure most of the characters shouldn't have had californian accents and 21st century hairstyles.
Amanda Seyfried,Max irons and most of the cast and direction team need to go back to acting and film school.
It was school play standard.Very poor.
Really enjoyed this movie. Would give it 3.5 stars. It is a really different spin on the fairytale, not one for the children.
No Spoiler Review - Red Riding Hood.
With two Snow White movies on their way I thought I would check out a previous incarnation of modern cinema rebooting a fairy tale, the Warner Brothers version of Red Riding Hood.
All in all, this is a very good movie, and well worth the DVD rental price. It is an interesting twist on the old tale, with enough misdirection to keep you guessing far into the movie.
Gary Oldman is brilliant, but then again when isn't he? The younger leads still have much to learn, but I wonder if I would have been as harsh in my estimation of their abilities had they not been sharing a scene with Oldman.
There is some lovely camera work, with a bit of a theme of looking into the eyes of the actors, allowing us to see them react to the emotions of the scene. The music is alternatively delightfully haunting and a cute re-imagining of modern sounds.
The explanation at the end is a little heavy handed, but no one should be able to come out of the movie saying that they didn't understand it, which I imagine was its purpose.
I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5. Oh, and it might have been all the snow-draped Canadian wilderness that you get to see, but both Nadina and I had the weird compulsion that a well-chilled dry white wine would go best with this movie.
Interesting to look at....terrible terrible acting.
Sorry, fell asleep during this one, then when I woke up for the last 30 minutes, I didn't really care. I normally like this genre of movie, but this was a misfire for me.
Terrible, terrible movie.
Pretty lame. The acting was pretty average. Not very impressed.
A terrific movie. Not as scary as I anticipated but still full of suspense and surprises. Loved the setting and scenery, characters and storyline. A great who dunnit. Recommend it to anyone.
dont bother with this one
Should appeal to twilight fans, werewolf twist on classic tale. Some strong cinematography but all used on the trailers. Who is the werewolf will keep you guessing until the end. A bit silly in places but a pleasant enough diversion.
2 and a half.
Good movie, we all enjoyed it, kept us entertained. Along the lines of the fairytale with a modern take. Kept us guessing to the end as to who it was (we guessed wrong). Worth watching.
Red Riding Hood had several good actors, but I pulled the plug half way through. Very stupid movie, Weak and without any surprises. I knew who the wolf was in the first ten minutes. Would not recommend to adults and too gory for kids
With all the hype I was looking forward to this, I shouldn't have held my breathe
This film was very poor. The acting was really bad and I don't know why a fine actor like Gary Oldman was in it.
Very interesting movie with a good cast. Some quirky moments referring to the eternal tale of Little red. Overall average.
Very weak. The only bit of interest was the mystery identity of the wolf.
A gothic faerytale with shades of the witchtrials of Salem and the Spanish Inquistion.
Started slowly however if you persist movie keeps you engrossed trying to figure out who is the wolf.
Very slow and poor script
Glad I decided to get this movie as I enjoyed it. I guess it would be one that you either enjoyed or you didn't.
i really enjoyed this movie
Very enjoyable...great idea to take the fable and twist it into an interesting storyline. Actors did well with the characters too...worth a watch.
Great thriller!! Would definitely watch this movie again.
Loved it. Kept me guessing the whole way through. Would watch again.
Possibly the worst movie I have ever seen, I dont understand how any one could not see how obvious this is frorm the start.
I enjoyed this movie. It had a bit of a twist and was a little predictable but it kept me intrigued to the end. Good cast of actors and enough action to keep it interesting.
Brilliant film, kept you guessing til the end.
Mmmmm, didn't really enjoy this at all. For me, it felt like it was trying too hard.
so confusing and convuluted the story doesn't make sense and it is disjointed. you don't actually figure out who the wolf is until the last 10 minutes of the movie. the rest of the time its just people running around going "aaaah its a wolf also i have many deep dark secrets which i will now share!". its kinda depressing too.
Not too bad, better than I'd thought it would be. Quite a few red herrings thrown in to keep me guessing as to whether I was right or not about who the wolf is.
A good movie that holds your attention while it's playing and you'll probably be happy to see again some day. Works in alot of the aspects of the old RRH tales without being painfully obvious about it.
very interesting movie, cleverly done.could of been a longer storyline, guess a little hard to venture from the main story so all in all it was a good movie to see.
An enjoyable and interesting view on the story line.
Was ok if you have nothing else to watch.
I wasn't expecting much of this one but I found it quite interesting as it kept you guessing who the wolf was. Well worth a watch.
This movie had the potential to be really good - the sets were nice, the visuals great, but the script was SHOCKING!!! It's actually been a really long time since I've seen a movie so cringingly bad script-wise! I actually enjoyed the movie in the sense that we spent a lot of it laughing at how bad it was and requesting the vomit bucket during the 'love' scenes. If you like bad movies that still provide you with a giggle give it a go - it's at least not boring!
Bit slow to start, was still guessing till the end :-)
Very disappointed in this film - not that I watched past the first 30 mins. The acting was terrible, the actors very lack luster as they stumbled through their scenes. The storyline weak. What was the director thinking????
this movie wasnt too bad it was scary to find out who the big bad wolf really was
This one was a bit slow for me..not too keen on this one
Absolutely loved this movie. Easily watched it 4 times. Will be buying it for my collection.
Well executed movie should be enjoyed by everyone
Almost too clever, not quite there.
I loved this movie. A very strange twist on the old fairy tale but very entertaining.
Very slow beginning but gets slightly better. So so.
Red Riding Hood had a lot of twist, a good movie
worth watching, kept me entertained. Actually better than most coming out of england of late
This movie isn't ment to be horror - it is classified romantic thriller! So I dont know why people are saying it wasnt scary enough - its not ment to be! And it is ment to reflect the fairytale little red riding hood which it does!
Anyway I really enjoyed this movie. We had fun trying to guess who the warewolf was even though we both got it wrong lol!! I would watch this again and I recommend it :-)
I had heard that this film was not the best, but thought I'd Quickflix it anyway. "How bad could it be?", I said to myself as I pressed play.....it was to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. See it only if you want to punish yourself.
AS OF THE 23/8 I HAVE NOT RECIEVED THIS MOVIE THANKYOU
The movie looks good, nice colour throughout showing, good looking actors and the sets are designed small and neat, like illustrations in a fairytale book, obviously deliberate . There are some subtle 'nods' to fairy tales which go over nicely. I felt there was things missing in the 'edit' of the film, which bore no surprise to see that there is a director's cut on blu-ray. Not a great film, enjoyable and not for kids.
I liked this movie! It was different & nice with a bit of action..
The director of Twilight does for werewolves what Twilight did for vampires - takes away the fear. The film looks good, and it has a very talented and handsome cast, but the writing (bad dialogue) and editing (lack of suspense) let it down big time.
A cute fairy tale with two gorgeous leading men.... Amanda is wide eyed and pretty, but definitley not her best performance.
Good easy to watch fun if you are looking for something a bit light and easy to watch....not to be taken too seriously.
An easy to watch movie, nothing special, if you liked Red Riding Hood when growing up you will probably enjoy this adult version of the fairytale.
Interesting with the amalgamation of a few werewolf folklore stories. But overall predictable. Obviously a werewolf movie for the Twilight generation.
Even though I had a hunch who the werewolf was right from the start (easy to spot) it still kept me in some manner of suspense until the very end. Fine visuals, fine cast... in this house if its not switched off its a winner.
Loved it, loved it, loved it, actually watched it twice. . . . ! If you love all the 'fantasy' films with warewolves, vampires, angels, demons & other downworlders that are so popular at the moment you will love it too, Total escapism with the beautiful girl torn between too gorgeous men(though not quite as handsome as Edward/Jacob), the mysterious old world village with its history and fmily secrets! ! ! With a good twist at the end, even I wasn't expecting to see who the warewolf was? ? ? ?
This is really bad (think Twilight and then triple the cheese factor). Might be worth a few giggles if you enjoy truly B grade unintentionally funny movies.
