Helen Mirren stars in this gripping political thriller about a plot to assassinate Mikhail Gorbachev at the beginning of his reign as leader of the Soviet Union. The CIA sends in Stoner, a former agent, to prevent the assassination. He must join forces with a former enemy and an old flame to thwart the deadly scheme.

I found this a very enjoyable political thriller. A very daring idea is given life through excellent acting, good directing and a thoughtful, plausible screenplay. Helen Mirren and Tom Skerrit are very good, and Max Von Sydow excellent. I found the inevitable bloody climax disappointing from a personal aspect, it all ends so quickly!!

Hard to follow with lots of different characters and so many dead bodies.

A great star cast but the story was slow and not very dramatic. The cold war is definitely over....
