I was bored throughout this movie. I was looking forward to seeing it, but it was weak - with a token handsome American lead and cliche support characters. I felt like it suited the after school telly slot. The dog was cute, that is all.

Absolutely loved it; lots of laughs and plenty of tears both of joy and sadness...certainly takes one through a gamut of emotions. I would watch it again...loved the larrackenism of the mine workers...they would be a hard-bitten bunch but not without 'heart'...and this is the core of the true Aussie...a movie to be thoroughly enjoyed.

Heart-warming story, some scenes made me think, hmmm, low-tech effects ... Based on a true story, which makes it an incredible tale. Nod to Australian multiculturalism working in a workplace/small community. A few Aussie macho male myths are busted ... Or at least challenged. Glad I saw the film, thinking it would be worth reading the book on which this was based.

Good aussie movie. this aussie movie also has the same type of characters(sterotyping) that you find in most aussie movies. red will make you cry, but if your not australian you won't relate.....which is the problem with australian movies. american beauty.....most people can relate to, either with a character or story, but if it was made in australia only aussies would have related to it. the aussie film makers would have said lets use real aussie characters and killed the movie. (i really don't like aussie movies.)

I quite enjoyed this little gem. Unlike some "Aussie" films, this one did not make me cringe so much. The "true" story has been tweaked a little, but is quite entertaining. Not a fan of the red dog/red cat fight scenes, but that was my only criticism.

A great Aussie movie. I saw this at the cinema originally and the audience were wrapt. The acting is good (Rachael Taylor is easy on the eye) but Red Dog steals every scene. The scenery of the Kimberleys is stunning. The Aussie music soundtrack from the 1970s is great. In fact, anyone who has ever worked in the outback; anyone who lived through the 1970s and all dog lovers should see this. Made me want to jump in the car and go visit the Kimberleys again - an urge I held back on, given it is several thousand Kilometres from where I live. I would highly recommend this great Aussie movie. It will become a classic, just like 'Muriel's Wedding' (although completely different to that movie).

This was a huge disappointment after all the build-up. The film consisted of a patchwork of events put together to make a story that lacked any depth or originality. The characters were typical stereotypes of the Aussie male. 99% of the time the dog was running on the road and didn't display the character and personality that are seen in other dog films. Australia can do better - so can our dogs.

A story Kelpie lovers will connect with. The story had a clever mix of comedy and drama. Laugh one minute shed a tear the next. The red outback was at its best- red and dusty!!!. If you have a chance on the DVD look at some of the interviews, and Red Dog's screen test.

All of the characters are so very life like, and believable, Where ever it was filmed, the scenery was perfect, its how I remember WA out back, The top Aussie movies, are at least as good, as any foreign movie, and the people depicted, are so real and life like, We know people just like them !!!

Loved this Aussie tribute to loyalty and mans best friend. The characters are lovable and believable, the storytelling is mostly authentic (although over 10 years I'd expect mine-workers to have a bigger turnover!) and when you add a dog to the mix you have a winner. A lovely story that invokes laughter and tears - and it has a dog! I feel a bit sad that to get noticed in the global arena we have to feature an American 'lead', but I'm more dismayed that I notice the foibles of the Australian Cast more when played beside a yank. I put this aside though and got thoroughly immersed in the touching storyline and amusing characters.

A real aussie yarn - brilliant acting (including by Red Dog) with a great storyline (though very end was just a bit too cheddar cheese for me). I didn't think I'd be into a story about truckies and miners being blokes and heros in the Australian desert, but I loved this film. Red Dog is a hero. A much better interpretation of Louis de Bernieres' book than Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

Film, like music, is an art form that works best when it takes you an emotional journey and in this regard "Red Dog" succeeds extravagantly. The dog/s playing the lead character are brilliantly handled, the humans perform very well and the film making is reliable and staisfying. Your heart strings are plucked all the way thru the fairly simplistic story and you may feel emotionally manipulated but what the heck - it works. No wonder this film broke box office records in Australia.

It was a good movie and they got the Australianism down to a tee, however I htought it would be a lot better. I thought it was going to be about the dogs life but it really only covered a few years then said he'd been to all these other places but didnt go into detail about how he got there, etc. It was ok but the dogs life story could have been about his life, not just a few events in it

10 minutes in and my blood is boiling- another stereotypical depiction of Australia as a male working class idiot drinking culture ooh but this time with a jolly multi cultural edge to it! It amazes me how screen writers and directors are such good little automatons in towing the line in government policy-but it is so terribly drear. This is truly awful

Red Dog is set in an outback mining town in the 1970's and the pace of the movie reflects this. The characters are over-the-top but the action is understated. It's a bit cliched but nevertheless is a syrupy heart-warming tale of man's best friend, with great acting from the dog and a cameo from red cat. Wonderful outback scenery.

Love & support Aussie movies BUT expected more after all the hype.Based thinly on a true story. If your are around 12 years old or over 60 you will love it. Very simply storyline lacking substance, therefore a very slow build up. Set in the 1970's in a W.Aust mining town. The people in the town are characterized as real " over the top ockers" which detracts. The American Lead actor was for overseas markets but I suggest should have been and Aussie Lead.eg Hugh Jackman Lot of the support cast were very " wooden" with their acting.Outback scenery was beautiful. One for the kids really.

Best film I have seen in a long while. The lack of obscene language shows good dialogue can be written without it.Compared with Pulp Fiction which used a form of the "F" word for every second word, this film proved we have a few talented script writers left, who actually have a vocabulary at their fingertips when they need it.Intelligent people will enjpy this film immensely

not a bad movie but a bit overacted and cringeworthy in parts. Many discripancies with the era it is supposed to be in (1971) made it less believable (the music, cars, mobile satellite in background) and the blokes were very well mannered for mining men. With an american as the lead it was obviously made for an international audience but still an entertaining movie.

Very accurate depiction of the Pilbarra region of WA. Having been a local I found some discrepancies but were easily overlooked in the scheme of things. The actors portrayed the local population well and although the story was well presented it all seemed a bit melodramatic and anticlimactic. A nice unsensationalised story of an Aussie mining town.

A wonderful Australian 'family' film, though be aware of the sad parts for the younger children. I was very pleasantly surprised as I thought it was going to be a case of all advertising hype but it was so much more, a great movie, a great story, well acted and not much of the broad, cruder side of Australian humour that is sometimes evident. I would recommend this one for the whole family for a great evenings viewing.

Really good movie. Obviously there has been a lot of hype surrounding this movie. And a movie about a dog may seem like a childrens film but if you think that you'd be wrong. It certainly isn't a childrens film and although they might enjoy it, there are enough 'adult themes' to justify being "PG". It's very light hearted and funny but also sad in parts. It's not a 'sad' movie per se though and well worth watching.

I loved this movie!. It was so great to see a really good Aussie movie again. There are lots of familiar faces in this but the star of the show is the dog. A handsome looking fellow who steals your heart and every scene in the movie. It has it's sad moments but it is nicely balanced with some very funny scenes which help lighten the mood. Set in the 1970s, the movie looks very authenic with old cars (lots of valiants) and old style clothing, which brings back memories!. I can't wait to see it again and am looking foward to the dvd release later this year. Don't miss it!. The whole family will enjoy it.
