I can totally see why an Oscar was in order - Jamie Foxx IS Ray Charles. I didn't realise how many of the songs that I love belonged to Ray - this has opened my eyes to a far more talented musician than I first thought. Opened my eyes to a whole new appreciation of Jamie as an actor, too, as he had the movement and mannerisms down pat.
Spent the middle of the movie lamenting the fact that I didn't like Ray for his off-stage behaviour, but his story is fascinating and this is a very well-told tale. Great Movie. Successfully ambushed my husband too, who wouldn't have picked this in a million years (not enough guns or robots) but he was suitably impressed also.
What a heart warming story of a blind, black musician with a huge personality who becomes an icon in his time.
Well I didnt know what to expect in this movie, Jamie Fox played the part of Ray Charles really well and what wonderful music, I am now a real fan of Ray Charles, I loved it immensley
What a wonderful week, watching As it is in heaven, Ray Charles and Usual suspects
Quality performance from Jamie Foxx.
"Ray" with Jamie Foxx. This film was fantastic and rates a 5 out of 5. I did not know his "story" and was surprised to find out that he was a heroin addict and his adultery with a lot of women, but still he "loved" his wife and children in his own way and would not leave them, even though he could not get past his addiction. I think this is a must see movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it - and the music is great.
Good film about the early life of Ray Charles - bit tragic towards the end biut then that wa shis ife. Good movie anyway.
Tedious. The movie is far too long and lots of scenes that do little to advance the story or are peripheral could easily have been left out. The music is great, the life story of interest, but nothing much else gels with the movie.
Loved the music the story combined with terrific acting a must see movie
Amazing movie with a brilliant cast. I?m still amazed at how well Jamie Foxx played Ray, movements, speech and even looks.
The view on his life, not positive or negative, just what is.
In one word amazing!
very enjoyable, fascinating true story. Amazing characters and truly incredible music. Highly recommended
This is great movie. I would have given it five stars but it suffers from that Hollywood schmaltzy goody-two-shoes sentimentality in parts. Otherwise ..... outstanding.
Without a doubt, unmissable.
Ray Charles (1930-2004) - talented musician, shrewd businessman, womanizer, heroin addict who overcame blindness, racism and a poor upbringing to become the chart topping success that he was. He was good at mimicking other black artists at the time but eventually found his own style and was the first to combine Gospel (God's music) with RnB (Devil's music) which caused a stir!
Life story of Ray Charles.Interesting bunot sensational. His musicwasfirst class in his style.Good for his fans.but not the best musical Ihave seen.
Ray was great, it maybe should be rated MA. It really helps the understanding of natural talent and Mr Ray Charles Robinson was the hole package.
Excellent portral of a man and his music.
Jamie Foxx WAS ray!!
Great story and music. Made me look at Ray
Charles in a new, but not so positive light.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. Jamie Foxx was terrific in the role of "Ray". I would definitely recommend this movie to any music lover!
enjoyed this movie very much, would recommend it
A excellent movie I watched it twice and would again.
I thought this was a very entertaining movie. Worth it for the music alone.
A really depressing film! Music is good but not worth it. A horrible, tragic story.
Excellent insight into this troubled performers life and career
Slow to start but worth the wait.
You do not need to be a Ray Charles fan to appreciate this movie, great acting and story. Very enjoyable.
It helps if you like the music, but is not critical. Much fascinating insight into the challenges and hurdles confronting even the most talented African-Americans through the 1950s to 1980s.
Fabulous music. Too many characters though - was a bit hard to follow at times. Learnt alot about this fantastic musician.
Jamie Foxx was entirely deserving of his Oscar nomination, his portrayal of an innovative and thoroughly unpleaant individual is incomparable. Otherwise I am not sure that that is the way to tell the story.
I thoroughly enjoy Ray Charles's blues and jazz. Jamii Foxx did a reasonably good impersonation of the great musician himself.
Fantastic movie! One of the best movies we have seen in ages. This is a definite must see, don't miss it!!
A great story telling of the life of one music's characters & pioneers. Top tapping, very interesting & moving.
I watched both versions but enjoyed the theatrical version more. Jamie Foxx was brilliant and I learnt a lot about Ray Charles that I didin't know. The music is fabulous.
One for the music lovers - extras incl meeting of Ray Charles and Jamie Foxx worth watching
Wonderful music; Jamie Foxx is brilliant as Ray Charles. Great film.
Well what a movie! One of the best films that I have ever seen. Jamie fox played an excellent role as ray. Not to be missed the cast were spot on.
Interesting movie of the troubled and talented early years of Ray Charles, long movie but really done as Ray develops his musical career.
This was a wonderful performance by Jamie Foxx and told the story of Ray Charles' life in a way that held the attention.
This was a brilliant story of the life of one heck of a musician who had unbelievable talent. He truly set the pace for music over time and his fight back from the edge was yet just another of his remarkable journeys in his life. Would have liked to see more of his later life's story on the straight and narrow, hat off to his wife!!
Jamie Foxx deserved all the accolades for his performance as the legendary musician Ray Charles.
No whitewash here ! A realistic enactment, and some great music !
not as good as your reviewer would have us believe. Warts and all it may be and for sure a great performance by Jamie Foxx - but why did I feel like everything was always working out for Ray despite those warts and how much did it seem REALLY disjointed? I mean even though it only covered a small portion of Ray Charles' life, I still felt for a 2.5 hour movie there were too many characters and it tried to cover too many strands. After all the praise and the Oscars, I guess I expected a WHOLE lot more :(
Great music and All the leads were fantastic. The extra showing the interview process was like witnessing history - so mind blowing and joyful. The story was well told, but a little long for my liking. I had to watch it again to make sure I got it all.
Fantastic performance by Jamie Foxx and perfect feel for the whole era of 50-s 60-s. The music of course is also superb; turn up your home theatre system really loud!
Great insight into the man behind the music. We got to see a side of Ray Charles that was kept very private. Jamie Foxx was unreal in the role and deserved his Oscar. Very long movie but well worth the time.
If you liked his music, I would seriously recommend this.
The extended version is somewhat more revealing and delves into his infidelities and drug use quite a bit more than the theatrical version. Don't bother if that's not of interest.
I thought the ending was pretty much an invitation to the sequel as it happens half-way through his life. I cannot believe that a character such as Ray has a boring second half to his life! Maybe sometime in the future....
