Scaling the Cliffs of Insanity, Battling Rodents of Unusual Size, Facing torture in the Pit of Despair True love wasn't meant to be easy. A young boy, bedridden with the flu, is less than thrilled when his grandfather arrives to read aloud the book, "The Princess Bride", which recounts the adventures of Buttercup, the most beautiful woman in the world, and Westley, the man she loves, in the fairytale kingdom of Florin. The old grandfather promises everything. "Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Bad men. Best men. Monsters of all shapes and sizes. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles." And as all this comes to life before the boy's enchanted eyes, his relationship with his grandfather deepens as well.

Part-Fairy Tale, part-parody of Fairy Tale, all fun. Near perfect film. But I'm bias, as it's my favourite file and I've owned it in a number of formats.

This is a joy! A fantasy on one level appreciated by children at face level, but with surprising nuances that keep everyone happy, withy good moral lessons and a surprising turn to make us keep watching.

Excellent Movie! Unfortunately my copy jammed on scene 12 so I had to go hire one from local video store to see the end, but well worth it!

This is a fabulous movie - perfect for the children and enjoyable for adults too. It has great action, very funny cameos, some classic dialogue, an evil prince, dashing hero and gorgeous heroine - and a happily ever after ending. Couldn't ask for more from a family movie.

Sorry, I can't write a review because we didn't watch it. I got it confused with The Princess Diaries which, it seems, is a different kettle of fish altogether.

This is still a family favourite and my guys are all teenagers now! A clever fairytale, that's a lot 'tongue in cheek' so expect it be predictable. Moves along well and yes I put it in the classic box.

An enjoyable movie for young and old, however not a movie that I would consider a 'classic'.

Meh.... It wasn't all it was talked up to be. It was such a predictable movie but at least Wesley was good looking enough to stare at...

A wonderful classic from the 'Robin Hood Men in Tights' team. Some well known actors who have gone on to bigger things. I loved this movie and would recommend it to young (not too young though !!) and old alike. If you enjoy a good laugh without having to think too much about it, this is a MUST SEE MOVIE.

There is always a movie that you see as a child that sticks in your mind. And when you grow to adulthood, you want to hunt this movie down. This movie is such a movie. Family entertainment. Your kids will love it and so will you.

What a great way of getting over the flu. Children's Stories never die and the kids really love them ( as do the grandparents). A great way to spend the afternoon with the grandchildren. A good story and and very entertaining.

I think this film is seriously overrated - there are a few chuckles (Billy Crystal is particularly good) but overall is a bit ho-hum.

I confess I didn't adore it, but thought it very cute. Nice film. Peter Falk is actually the best thing in it, but then, isn't he always?

A movie with more memorable quotes than any other.... "He didn't fall?? INCONCEIVABLE! ....you keep saying that word...I do not think it means what you think it means!" "I do not mean to pry - but do you by chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand...? ...do you always begin conversations this way?"

Because this movie has so many sub-plots it appeals to everyone. While it sounds like a classic fairytale it doesn' develop that way. We all enjoyed it, even my boys who do not like that "kissing stuff"
