Great movie, although it came out around the same time as the illusionist it is quite different. I'm a big fan of Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan and wasn't disappointed at all,

Bale and Jackman are BRILLIANT. I was rooting for Jackman, mainly because I am not a huge fan of the Bale Brand of Brooding Intensity, The movie was beautiful, and also a typical Nolan Affair which leaves you questioning whats real at the end (Like inception). Very Unique too, well worth repeat viewings

Captivating movie with superb twists. Both Jackman and Bale put in excellent performances. This movie plus his other great film, Inception - proves that Christopher Nolan is not just one hit wonder director with the Batman franchise but is able to branch out to other themes and stories with creative and fresh direction.

The prestige is a little bit confusing and moves to quickly. I found it pretty sad as both magicians are as evil as each other and maybe thats what the author was trying to portay that magic is an evil practise either way I found it hard to follow and watch.

What the Prestige gets right that The Illusionist got so wrong is, it doesn't over-egg the pudding. It let's you see the technology behind the tricks so that, even when presented by something impossible, it feels real. What this meant for me was that I could concentrate on the characters and story, and not be distracted by things that didn't appear to make sense. It's very simply a story about obsession, and the lengths some people will go to. It also pulls off the trick of having main characters who aren't terribly likeable but are intriguing enough to make you want to see what they'll do next.

I enjoyed this movie greatly, from start to finish. The twists and tricks are very clever, the layers of illusion were well crafted, and even after I worked out the secret it managed to shock me. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes to think about what they're watching and for anyone who appreciates the wonder a good illusion can bring.

This movie I loved !It's a bit "dark" in places, however, if you cast aside any concept of magicians and their "art" of magic, which I am not a traditional fan of magic anyhow, this movie is excellent. It has very clever and compelling performances of Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Piper Perabo and even David Bowie as Nikola Tesla . The strict usage of period costumes and clever scenery sets for that "era" make this movie a really very clever story, with more than one twist which will keep you thinking all the way through the entire enjoyment and it's about what actually DID happen for days after ! It was very popular when it was released and I can remember all my friends and colleagues raving about it. It truly deserves a special place along with "story telling movies' other masters, Casablanca, King Kong, Titanic and Avatar and of course Australia, the Movie with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman ( hottie )

The elements of a magician's craft: the Pledge, the Turn and the Prestige. The audience knows it is being fooled, but for the greatest magicians this deception will rule their lives. This is a beautiful looking film with fabulous Victorian-era sets, costumes and contraptions. The magic tricks are dazzling and their secrets are not revealed until the final act. Nikola Tesla (played by David Bowie) fascinated me and it is well worth reading more about this Serbian genius. Tesla's life would be great source material for a film.

This movie is deliberately light mutedly. It also seems confusing. The director explains that the movie is actually a magic trick all on its own. He makes a comment that after seeing it, you need to see it again, to see how all the elements lead to the exposition, and how the structure of the movie is part of another magic trick. The actors are good, but it is the sum of the acting, the plot, the story and the production that makes the movie. You must persevere to the end, and see how it all hangs together, how the climax of the movie revealed at the beginning is not the real climax. It deserves its highest rating from me.

Hmmm very good .... one of best movies seen this year so far! Great acting combined with a good script and very interesting plot ... it's the plot plus Victorian settings that really make the movie. The plot is complex and you really need to pay attention to work it out ... keeps you hanging on to the very last scene ... but YES all is tied together plus final scene has all your suspicions clarified. Great sleeper ... well worth watching.

This is one of my faves. Christopher Nolan (of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight fame) uses a heavy dollop of deception and intrigue to keep you guessing in this film. A hint for watching: don't trust what you have figured out. This movies s as secretive as an illusionist is with the execution of their tricks.

Definitely a cut above the average. A well thickened plot means you really need to be awake for this one as it turns on itself a number of time but there are rewards for paying attention. Hugh Jackman is very believable and Christian Bale's usual woody delivery suits his character well. Probably just pips "The Illusionist" in the battle of the magician movies.

I always try and read the critic's reviews before making my selections so embarked on this movie with high expectations, as all the reviews rated it very highly. Disappointingly, it was a major disaster in my opinion. Totally confusing from start to finish (clearly I am not as clever as either the director or all the positive review writers) I simply became more and more frustrated until I really didn't give a damn about the ending and was just glad it was over. Christian Bale's character had a twin? Give me a break!! As for David Bowie as Nicola Tesla, he should stick to bad singing and avoid inflicting his wooden acting on audiences who deserve more for their time and money.

Events out of chronological order seem to appeal to authors and scriptwriters as they can show off how clever they are. To this viewer, however, it usually just gets confusing. Especially here when you have flashbacks within flashbacks. In the end it almost made sense, except for a few things that still left me completely confused. And why can’t we have London actors playing Londoners? Do we really need lots of Americans – and an Australian – who can never quite hide their real accents? For all that, it’s an enjoyable and worthwhile movie.

Absorbing story of obession between two careers in magic. The acting is great with Michael Caine's supporting part greatly adding to the believability. Right until the end, there is no accent on the Sci-Fi basis and so it seems an historical story setting. The twist is VERY unexpected and though elements might be guessed earlier, the full details blow you away. Huge enjoyment in a thoughtful movie.

Personally I thought this movie started off strong but as it progressed I was left questioning the expectations I had in regards to the direction of the plot, the secrets to how tricks were executed, etc. I found it amusing and confusing. However, it was very enjoyable for a movie enthusiast such as myself. It really left me wanting to know. It can get quite dragging at times (eg. the main characters and their 'plotting against each other' scenes). My whole family watched it and by the middle the women in the family had already given up on the film.

That Tesla machine that one magician was using is indeed dangerous and when used outside of a Faraday cage has the potential of striking anyone in the vicinity. The sparks / lightening that it produced would indeed hurt you, and with the power it was generating would definately kill you. Note to any potential jackasses out there, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME or you will be roast meat. It did make for a good magic trick on screen though... I did learn that there is 3 parts to a magic act a) The Pledge, b) The Turn, c) The Prestige.

Whatever it is that other people see in this movie is completely lost on me. I found the story boring and unnecessarily complicated and the acting was less than stellar. Christian Bale as a cockney was simply not credible and while Jackman and Caine were slightly better their performances were nothing to write home about. Then again it would be hard to put in a great performance with such wooden dialogue and unlikeable characters. Save your time and watch something else instead.

Great acting and photography. However, I found the story complex and hard to follow, particularly as there were at least two sets of people masquerading as others. I give it three stars

very complicated film which i had to watch twice to make sure i didn't miss anything maybe would have been better to watch had it been just a straight out story instead of jumping from the present to the past as this only adds to more confusion. the plot as a whole was magic and the old adage "the hand is quicker than the eye" is true to fact.

Christopher Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson form a great cast in this fight for the ultimate showman in the magic world. Two magician assistant, Hugh & Christopher, embark on a deadly competition against each other after the untimely death of Hugh's characters wife. The twist at the end is very clever.

It will be intersting to watvh 'The Illusionist" to see how this compares. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are fine in the lead roles, and David Bowie fills a solid cameo. It lost me a bit when the "magic" become more about special effects and teleportation...

"The Prestige" was a totally fascinating film. Using the three acts of a magic trick, the pledge, the turn and the prestige, it drew the viewer into a plot containing twists, misdirection, and more twists. There were just enough clues so that when the ultimate trick was revealed, one could go over it in your mind and see how the denouement was revealed very early on. The only element that demanded more than usual suspension of disbelief was Tesla's machine. The cast was superb especially Hugh jackman and Michael Caine.

Wasn't too keen on the ending and Christian Bales' character while well acted was just plain irritating. Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine were great as usual, David Bowie is a better actor than he is a singer... of course that's not saying much and Scarlet Johannson is way too overrated. Good twist at the end though. Don't you hate it when you don't see it coming but love it all the same?
