There is certainly no lack of action and intrigue, pulled off by an interesting cast of characters, explosions, special effects and cameo appearances.
It would be hard to classify the genre of this movie because it could come under action, horror, thriller or sci fi. Cetainly not very highly rated but good entertainment over a few beers when the boys are around.
A very fun zombie film and a great companion piece to "Death Proof". The experience of watching this in the theater as part of "Grindhouse" would have been really fascinating.
NOT REALLY IMPRESSED AND I LIKE ZOMBIE MOVIES . NOT EVEN BRUCE WILLIS COULD SAVE THIS ONE
I was expecting action movie not violent movie. Too much blood!!!
Within a couple of minutes into the movie it was too painful to bother with. Turned it off
Completely corny but I enjoyed it. The blood and guts was a bit overdone though. Decent actors and not a bad plot. Surprised me actually I thought it was going to be stupid like Shaun of the Dead.
Cheesy, gross and gory. Sadly, it does contain Bruce Willis's acting magic, which is completely wasted here. It's probably only one step down (not up!!!) from sexy women with sexy guns. Could rename this movie to 'Sexy women, with sexy guns, taking down the unsexy.'
i saw the other 'grindhouse' movie, death proof and really liked the first half because it had 'something' but it fell away in the second half.
planet terror sounded pretty awful but a lot of people said this was the better show so i eventually gave it a look, and it was pretty awful.
wasnt scarey, suspenceful or even interesting, just blood and guts, nice girls though.
Loved it! Took me a few scenes to get into this one, Not normally one for Zombies, but days later, we're still having a giggle about this movie and throwing quotes into conversation. Took it to a party Saturday night and it turns out some of my friends are just as sick as me.
Best zombie movie I've seen so far.
One of the most ridiculous movies I've seen in a long time. It was fantastic!
Naturally, you take this movie with a pinch of salt. It's made by people who understand the comedy of the horror genre.
Sorry but this was not a movie you want to see. The only thing funny was the really bad B grade acting. I had to will my self to keep watching in the hopes it would get better- Sadly it didnt!
I have to give both of these Grindhouse films only a 2 star rating. I wanted to like them I really did, in fact I liked Rodriguez's contribution the best. Rose McGowan has a great acting style, it's not to all people's taste but it really works in Planet Terror where we're suppose to buy the fact that she loses her leg and gains a machine gun in it's place. This movie feels truer to the exploitation films it seeks to ape, lots of scratches and missing reels and simply forgotten plots. Someone should tell Quentin Tarantino not to cameo though, he's just awful. The best scenes are reserved for Marley Shelton and her anesthetized hands - hilarious!
2 hours of my life I will never get back. Absolutely nothing redeemable about it, self-indulgent pile of rubbish.
Good movie , good action movie, plenty of blood. Can't wait to see the other half of the GrindHouse double feature.
This would have to be THE lamest movie I have ever seen.
Bruce Willis must have really been struggling to make ends meet when they handed him the script for this one!!
Amusing gory and funny ;-)
5 stars for fun and flesh! Really enjoyable and i loved the witty script. All the actors did a great job and it's so good it's bad : D
Not as good as what i had anticipated, the graphics were good... the story line could of been better. Maybe i was just expecting too much from Robert Rodriguez... He is one of my favourite director's...
Pretty much what we have come to expect from Robert Rodriguez - fast, dirty and a lot of blood and gore. Provided you don't expect a serious film, you won't be disappointed. Big name stars lend their credibility to this fun and disgusting romp through the backward sewers of small town America. Even without the "missing reel" midway through the flick, Rodriguez seams together an entertaining guide to surviving a radioactive zombie attack, should this ever really occur. Enjoyed the ride, and got what I expected from the legendary director of "From Dusk Till Dawn". Always good to see Tarantino make an appearance as well. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
This is just plain awesome!!! Yes, it's a bit slow in parts, but that's because the whole point of Grindhouse was to emulate the exploitation flicks of the 70s (hence the grainy film), and they have done it, as these two directors do everything, perfectly. If you're a film buff of any calibre, SEE THIS MOVIE. I haven't laughed so hard in ages (e.g., "you've got me by the balls").
Drivel......splatterfest in extremis. Tarentino unleashed. The weird 60's drive-in effects were a bit interesting but as a film it was referential and without any real value.
It's just sad that they could find the funds to make this piteous tripe and more depressing still that people probably paid to watch it somewhere. I resent wasting the rental time on it.
A zombie movie with a moral "Go Go, Not Cry Cry"! Robert Rodriguez directed, wrote, edited, did music, visual effects and guess who Mr Rodriguz's chef is! This is a zombie, art, noir movie with an apocolyptic sublime ending and humour, especially the missing reel idea! Cool!
I loved this movie! I was so annoyed they didn't show it at the cinema. Makes me wish I had been around when Grindhouse cinema was at it's peak. If you go into it knowing what to expect (i.e over the top gore and action set pieces paying homage to the Grindhouse genre) than you'll enjoy it more.
IF Quinto style fan you like it otherwise prob find it slow and hard to watch
This film takes the obliteration of zombies to a new level, it is full of over the top blood filled violence that sometimes you actually find yourself laughing at it. Definately watch this if you are a fan of blood, gore and flesh eating zombies.
I can see how people didn't get this movie but I did get it, its just such a laugh and for us older viewers there is some memories of when I was in my parents station wagon at the drive ins seeing quality movies like this. Excellent.
This movie is deliberate cheese. Shallow cliched characters and plots with holes. It's made to be like that though and if you watch it with that in mind it is a lot of fun.
Do youself a favour and make sure to rent Deathproof as well and watch them within a couple of days of each other to really appreciate the feel they're going for.
Great! A parody and a homage to seventies B-movies. If you know these types of exploitation movies, you will enjoy the sleaze and the cheese. I think a lot of viewers will miss the point [somehow...?]
better than deathproof but would only recommend you watch it if you have nothing else to do. not a fan. trying to be different but doesn't work.
This is intentionally the most dated and corny 'horror' fllm ever! It's hard to supress the cynic in me wanting to point out bad dialogue, acting and plot holes, but if you suspend reality it's a bit of fun.
No where near as fun as it's sister film, Deathproof though!
Truly disgusting but incredibly enjoyable to watch, i enjoyed it much much more than Death Proof, this definitely is the better of the two grindhouse films. Awesome trailer before the movie as well. Go Machete!
Another great Rodriguez effort. A clever homage to B-grade movies of the past, complete with degrading film artifacts on the film print etc. Rose McGowan is absolutely fine in this movie and retains a couple of this trademark, sarcastic 1-liners she made her own in Charmed (I wasn't a fan of that show ... honest !).
Well worth a look, but you'll need to treat it as an homage to those types of movies in the past.
great movie. love the gore
the quaility of the movie didn't rate my viewing, very poor
Pretty damn good!
Slow here and there but you just help-at laugh at a few of the rediculas things that happen. Enjoyable, funny, and an instant clut-classic!
This movie pays homage to trashy 70s cinema. Only watch this tongue-in-cheek and if you can take a joke. It's good fun right down to the grainy film that makes it look like it's been shown in about 50 different cinemas and the hilarious missing reel which obviously has all the big reveals in it. This film is meant to be fun and in the spirit of these old films. It's amazing how many people don't get the point.
Really liked it a bit trippy but a good movie....
Not a bad movie. A bit slow in some parts. Good graphics
GRINDHOUSE is an amazing five star movie. Too bad it was never realeased as the full feature in Australia. Death Proof was released November 1 2007 at Australian Cinemas, while Planet Terror will be released directly to DVD March 5 this year. Planet Terror starring Rose McGowan (TV's Smash Hit, Charmed) and Freddy Rodriguez is two straight hours of Action Packed Horror, Blood and Gore. When a fatal chemical is released in Texas, Zombie's attack. The Last Hope for humanity rests upon a High Powered Machine Gun. Planet Terror revolves around the lives of brilliant characters, Cherry Darling (McGowan), A fed-up go-go dancer who loses a leg, only for it to be replaced by a machine gun, El Wray (Rodriguez) Cherry's one true love, Cross him and its Lights out, Dakota (Marley Shelton) A Lesbian doctor, trying to protect her son from her insane husband, Doc Block (Josh Brolin) His Perscription... Pain. Planet Terror is a ten ticket thrill ride, with no holds barred. The Second feature of Grindhouse is Death Proof, Starring Kurt Russel, Zoe Bell and Rosario Dawson Kurt Russel plays Stuntman Mike, a predetor who prays on beautiful young women (Sydney Poiter, Rose McGowan, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd) with his Death Proof car. Although Stuntman Mike may seem dangerous, he is about to crash into two stuntwomen who seek their revenge against the lunatic. To clear up any confusion, GRINDHOUSE is two movies played back to back, directed by Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk till Dawn, Once upon a time in Mexico) and Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 1&2) The two movies are Planet Terror and Death Proof. Unfortunately Grindhouse was split in two for Death Proof to be released individually and Planet Terror to be released straight to DVD. Grindhouse's were drive in's or Theaters in the 70's and 80's which played double or triple movies back to back, these movies were generally exploitation movies, consisting of hard core horror, sexuality and action. And we're not talking any old horror movie, we're talking full on blood, gore and guts, which is what makes Planet Terror so damn effective.
