Mild violence and crude humour

Director: Marcos Martinez
Actors: Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman, Seann William Scott, John Cleese

Sixteen-year-old Lem (Justin Long) lives on Planet 51, a white picket fenced world reminiscent of 1950s America. His life is happy, safe and predictable... until the unpredictable happens! Out of the blue, and millions of miles from home, astronaut Captain Charles ‘Chuck' Baker' (Dwayne Johnson) spaceship comes crashing down right in the middle of a family barbecue! Unaware of his surroundings, Chuck is revelling in his “Big Moment”; he plants his flag triumphantly before realizing he's not alone. Turning, he sees Planet 51's green-skinned inhabitants staring back at him bemused!

Beautifully realised vision of a 1950s-style world of little green men, where everything is round (flying saucer cars, buildings, furniture). Ideas pinched joyfully from pop culture - the town square is a loving steal from Back To The Future's Hill Valley. Nice cast and characters likeable enough but entirely cliched, as is the plot. Apart from the occasional clever visual gag (eg an early scene where our human spaceman plants the US flag on someone's lawn) and the fun of picking all the references, the good-heartedness doesn't make up for the lack of plot and flat characters. Dwayne Johnson doesn't quite manage to make this work, despite his obvious best intentions. A good film for 7-12 year olds, with one or two scary or more aggressive scenes making it a parental discretion thing for younger viewers. 2.5 stars.

While there are other much better animated movies out there, this wasnt all that bad. Cute characters and an entertaining storyline for the younger members of the family. May not appeal to the older children but you never know - we all like differant things

I didn't even bother watching it. Because my kids were so bored they didn't understand it? it wasn't funny. I was really disappointed in this movie; I really wished it was a great movie! because I don't know of ANY? animated movies which are disappointing?? this is a First!

Wasn't too bad. I'd say its a good one for the kids, not as amusing as some other cartoons out there for the adults.

Planet 51 isn't terrible - but it definitely isn't wonderful either. It constantly spoofs tons of sci-fi movies (that only adults and perhaps older teens will catch), but doesn't pull it off well. Other than 'Rover' and 'the dog' - and maybe the fish - none of the characters are very appealing, and not a single one is original. There are also parts where the movie drags and the lackluster humour does nothing to help. 2/5.

I really liked this one : o ) I actually loved the way the city was draw - lots of circles and interesting shapes. Very nice to watch visually with a good story line.

There are a lot of ex-cartoon/movie scenes. Can be very predictive but children will love this film.

A lighthearted comedy for both young and old. The adults will get the '80's flashback jokes' while the kids will just love the animation. If you're a fan of animation such as Toy Story and Monsters Inc - then you'll enjoy this movie also.

Two thumbs up from Miss Eleven. Quoth Master Eight "it gave me a headache". Harmless and heart-warming but didn't shoot the lights out.

Another good story about how americans love to hate anyone or thing which is different (even if it was another planet, you could not help to see the parallel!) My daughter

Funny, entertaining film with some good voice casting. Love the little alien dog. Much of the funny stuff was already seen in the film's trailer. But good fun. Kids will love it.

Really good. Great for the kids. Excellent twist on the usual out of space/sci-fi movie which makes it interesting for the adults. Good movie worth watching, young or old.

I saw this as a trailer at the pictures and thought it would be fun - but was a bit disappointed - as with other reviewers nowhere near as great as some other animated films. Relied a lot on referencing other movies for the laughs.

Really nice looking movie but it lacked the laughs of similar CGI movies which now days seem to have more sad moments in them than funny ones (eg UP, Ratatouille, Wall-E). The only laughs in the movie came from the "Alien" dog and the Wall-E knock off Rover module.

if you are a film buff then you may like to watch this one. they have copied many 'lines' , 'scenes' and music from so many movies it was at times more fun working out which movie they were referring too!!..still the younger audience wouldn't even get that aspect but would still find it enjoyable. as for the movie..predictable, I enjoyed it more as it went along..wasn't painful to watch as a kids movie..not as great as some of the others like toy story etc..made to entertain the big kids just as much so worth a look..

I had read some good reviews of this but I saw it on the big screen and was really disappointed. Nowhere near as sharp as the Pixar features and not enough laughs. Really is targeted at the kids this one.
