A famous soccer coach has been murdered and his priceless ring stolen – a ring set with the stunning diamond known as the Pink Panther. Cracking the case becomes a national obsession, and Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Kevin Kline), up for the prestigious Medal of Honour... for the seventh time... can’t afford any mistakes – at least none that can be attributed to him.

Enter indefatigable Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin), a name that strikes fear into... well, everyone. His deductive powers are limited, his command of the language frightening, his reflexes hazardous. His approach may be alarmingly unorthodox, but he always solves the crime – in his own fashion – with hilarious results.

A stunning pop star (Beyonce Knowles), a soccer player, a Chinese assassin – who committed the crime? Clouseau and his partner, Ponton (Jean Reno) must unmask the murderer and keep Dreyfus from taking credit for the victory, all without bringing the French legal system to a screeching halt.

To be honest I was a bit disappointed - both in Steve Martin and in the storyline. I had high expectations because the Peter Sellars originals had left such a strong imprint on my mind as a kid. It could have been SO much funnier. The couple of funny bits that were there were enough to earn it 2 stars. Watch it if you've never seen the originals - then go and see the originals. M

Thought the remake was funnier than the original series, Steve Martin did a good job as the bumbling detective and there were no quiet moments.

I'm a huge fan of Steve Martin's comic skills, though I wondered how he could do this movie justice, given his typical "all american" persona. However, he did it perfectly. Pink Panther movies are all about having a good silly belly-laugh and Steve satisfied this need with his portrayal of the bumbling inspector. Sit back and laugh freely.

I can't believe good actors signed on to this movie! It was truely terrible, and I'm a big Steve Martin fan. Stick to the original!
