Saw this a few years ago and didn't think much of it. Rewatched it and found it quite enjoyable.
Excellent movie; great costumes and scenery! I've seen the live production and enjoyed it BUT this movie gave me more understanding of the story line. The singing is every bit as good, as the stage singing!
Have seen the stage show twice and watched this D,V,D a number of time still very high on my list of musicals ,greatly enjoyed
This film was fantastic, has been adapted from Stage show, beautifully.
I enjoyed it very much, the chandelier scene was brilliant, would recommend this as a MUST watch DVD.
Thanks
Nancy Boyatzis
I absolutely adored The Phantom of the Opera. Watched it 4 times. Andrew Lloyd Webber amazing. The music brilliant. In fact, I am going to buy the 'dvd'. The Phantom shall be the start of my musical collection and I look forward to when I can afford to buy it.
Not for everyone! They just keep singing lol. Its a musical from start to finish
Absolutely love this and it made my mother extremely happy watching it also. What fantastic voices but not quite as good as Michael Crawford.
Brilliant movie... think I'll be watching this again soon.
I liked this version of Phampton of the Opera with Gerard Butler in it. I understood the storyline more this time. It is a truly magnificent film. I totally loved it
I enjoyed it but I could only watch it once
Story too slow pace. Actors does not sing very well.
Loved this because it brought back so many memories of the live show - nowhere near as good, but good for a video rehash.
Wonderful alternative to the stage show
Very enjoyable -- need to forget the musical and allow the movie to just run its course.
A great remake of the classic opera performance. The singing was amazing and the main charecters played their parts perfectly a must see!
This has to be one of the best movies I have seen for a long time. The photography was outstanding, the actors were top class and the singing was amazing. Not to be missed by anyone who loves this story. Magic.
A beautifully designed film, lavishly produced and well directed. A good to excellent cast with the possible exception of the hero, who I felt was a bit lacklustre perform well. Beautifuil music. Enjoyed this one very much.
I enjoyed the dvd immensely- the quality of the picture, the quality of the sound, the storyline were all excellent- A very strong and moving film
I think I'd have enjoyed this more on the big screen, not television. It was good to see the story having known the music. Wouldn't see it again though.
OMG!!!!! the Phantom of the Opera 2004 is the best one they have made ever! I love the music and characters in it. the story line is so romantic about the youny opera sing falling for the phantom the devils child and making up with her childhood lover and getting marrage. Its just such a great movie to watch! :)
Absolutely brilliant. Very close to the stage version. I was able to sing along to most of it!Most Phantom fans will be happy with this movie.
A great movie!! A watched it a few times!!
A great cast which definitely came through!! Joel Schumacher what a director!!
This is a superb film, touches my heart
as I am a hopeless romantic and the voice
Gerald Butler- Wow!! What a Bartone!!
Emmy Rossum is superb with her beautiful
opera voice!! Definitely worth watching!!
Having seen the stage production was wary it might not be as good but it was fantastic - always moved by the majestic music
Interseting and entertaining, but definitely not the Andrew Lloyd Webber production
For such a huge fan of musicals and Phantom of the Opera in particular, I wasn't overly impressed with this movie.
I thought the set and custumes etc were really good. Not too fussed on the casting, though i was very surprised with minnie driver, i'm not a fan of hers but she was probably the best one in the movie! I found it a bit slow and boring and I dont think it gives the stage show justice.
Fantastic music and score. Amazing set and visually splendid.
Should have been a triumph and would have been were it not for the terrible miscasting of Gerard Butler as the Phantom and garish direction by Joel Schumacher. They sexed up the Phantom and took the spirit away from the original story. But definitely worth a look - the rest of the cast is magnificent. Minnie Driver is pure brilliance - she steals the show!
Senstaional movie version of the stage musical. One of the best musicals ever put on celluloid. The cast was brilliant, the sets magnificent, the costumes beautiful and the music simply outstanding. This is Andrew Lloyd Webber's best musical and the film does it the justice it really deserves. I loved it.
a moving story, beautiful costumes and sets.
It was just lovely although the pronouciation wasn't all that good
It was just lovely although the pronouciation wasn't all that good
Even though the live show was better, the movie kept you entertained.
Don't be afraid of Opera !
This is a very special place. You'll be hugged ,lifted of your seat, you will float ,shaken and mystified by the power of the music. You never forget Phantom.
I've seen this film twice now and enjoy it immencely. It is true to the stage musical but ads a further dimention to the story that only film can do. The elaborate and luxurious sets with supurb costumes makes this a true feast for the eyes. The huge budget was well spent.
Good watch -- diferent from the musical. Enjoyable
I loved this DVD and the music is just fantastic. I saw the musical in both Melbourne and Sydney and enjoyed the chance of seeing the DVD.
One of the best films you'll ever have the privilege to see! Expecting to watch a movie and ended up getting much more! The Phantom (Gerard Butler) was the same actor from Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. It came as a surprise that he can sing as well as "really" act! All the actors were MAGNIFICENT! For them to do better would be humanly impossible! The setting, FANTASTIC! This movie is not just for girls and ladies; it is also for men who understand passion and appreciates the real meaning of excellence!
For Andrew Lloyd Webber devotees, this is a must.
Brought back memories of the stage play but was good in ts own right
I have seen the stage show twice on Broadway and a total of 14 times.
This movie is great for a Phanton addict.
Whole family loved this even the kids aged 6 & 9 - music is wonderful and the casting excellent.
I was disappointed and its all my own fault!! Yes, the costumes, set etc were truly wonderful and the movie stayed true to the story and stage performance. But the raw power and passion of Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford was not there.... not by a mile. I know, I know... it was a whole new production but myself and probably a great many others don't want second best. I saw the show on stage and even though it was limited in its sets due to size it shone. This Phantom was restricted by his lack of vocal power and that spoilt it for me.
This film is definitely one that should not be missed, i enjoyed it so much I wanted to watch it over and over again the songs kept repeating over in my head, which I enjoyed for some time.
Loved it!! I think i saw it about 3 times over the weekend!
Sensational movie. I haven't seen the stage production, don't think I want to now.
The cast is excellent, music fabulous and haunting, stays with you for days after.
The Phantom is so hot, I've fallen inlove with him as I'm sure many women have.
The critics that panned this movie have no taste, it's spectacular in every way.
Definitely a movie not to be missed.
The first question is always, 'will it be as good as the stage production?' The answer - a resounding yes! The leads, though little known actors, were young and vibrant with great singing voices.
My husband and i enjoyed it. The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the phantom's singing, the rest were beautiful.
Superb music. Lloyd- Webber surpassed himself with this.
Minnie Driver was excellent. The sets were great. The chandelier scene was excllently done.
For people who love musical theatre pieces, this is a must see. The classic musical pieces and best performance of the casts make this movie version as the ultimate Phantom of the Opera experience.
Excellent version of the classic tale. If you have ever seen the stage production or any of the old movies you will be happy with this retelling of the story. Excellent scenery and beautiful costumes add to the excellent acting of the whole cast. Highly recommended to all.
I can't think of a more beautiful and haunting film - absolute eye and ear candy. Lloyd Webber would have been completely thrilled by this and if you are a fan of the stageshow - you just can't miss it. If you haven't seen the stageshow, then what an initiation!! You'd do very well indeed to start with this. Excellent casting, particularly with the lead (Gerard Butler - babe of "Attilla The Hun" and "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life") who is now my new babe!
