Double Academy Award winners Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood confront each other from opposite sides of the law in A Perfect World, an acclaimed, multi-layered manhunt saga (directed by Eastwood) that rumbles down Texas backroads toward a harrowing collision with fate.

Costner plays Butch Haynes, a hardened prison escapee on the lam with a young hostage (T J Lowther in a remarkable film debut) who sees in Butch the father figure he never had. Eastwood is wily Texas Ranger Red Garnett, leading deputies and a criminologist (Laura Dern) in a statewide pursuit. Red knows every road and pothole in the Panhandle. What's more, he knows the elusive Haynes — because their paths have crossed before.

Wonderful film and great role for Costner. Really enjoyed this one. I don't think there was one bad scene in the whole movie.

Another good movie directed by Clint Eastwood. I think it might be Costner's best work to date. I haven't liked all of Costner's movies but this one was good. The acting of the smaller role players was excellent. Terrific acting by the child actor.

The movie explores the problemsof law enforcement in Texas a generation back. Clint Eastwood as the Sherrif shows the struggle law enforcement officers have in bringing justice to the battlers of the state. His interaction with Laura Deen brings out this point to perfection, with the final scene where Butch Haynes is shot drives home the point. :when the poor and the powerless meet the prejudices and attitudes of law enforcement officers, the poor always come off badly. Much of the film is taken up by the interaction between Butch haynes as the baddie and his hostage, played by the young TL Lowther. The scene on "pecker" size is hilarious. The background fo the hunt for the escapee is the background for this interaction and the tragic conclusion gradually become the only poossible ending. Eastwood plays his tough guy role to perfection. Probaly not in the same class as Dirty Harry, but not far behind in displaying human beings in difficult situations at their best and worst.

Costner was excellent in his portrayal of a good crook . The ending was corny unrealistic & predictable. A reasonable movie but could have been much better. Eastwood had a ???nothing??? role and the storyline and direction were a bit disjointed
