Unhappy that I supposedly picked this yet again not remembering I had already seen it a while ago AND received a second copy straight away!!
What we saw of the movie we enjoyed. The disc froze at four different times throughout the movie, we missed a good 20 - 25 mins, which was incredibly frustrating! The amount of swearing was a little tedious.
Better than expected. The alien spaceship landing scene is a scream! A little more effort and it could have been great!
Didn't know what to expect and it was quite good really...
This movie was nothing like I expected - and I loved it! Quirky and having a storyline that seems not only preposterous but also (by the end) maybe possible, I would highly recommend it.
acceptable. A road trip with an alien that's "one of the boys".
Same old tired rubbish from S Pegg - he really must try harder - he used to be good but I rather think that was because he was fresh - he's now stale and, quite honestly, going off.
Really Disappointed in Pegg, this was as disappointing as Run fat boy run and how to lose friends and alienate people, it was an attempt to appeal to the masses and American Families, frat boys etc, very bland generic humor, Seth Rogan is also doing the same thing. Its a very tired formula of comedians trying to make everyone laugh and losing what makes them unique and funny.
Not always in tune with Simon Pegg's humour but I found this to be very enjoyable. Watch for the small throwaway acknowledgements to classic sci-fi movies.
really enjoyable great fun for all the family
Funniest movie I have seen in a long time, really great humor with out being to crude. Makes you rethink about life on other worlds. A must see
It's an English comedy, no wait, it's American, no wait, it's English........That's how I felt throughout the movie. It didn't feel as if Pegg and Frost had total say in this fairly funny movie. It's not the classic that Shaun of the Dead is and never likely to be. There were some really good lines in it and some really crummy segments. A little more thought could have made this a classic too.
Really funny as expected. Very clever concept and very funny execution.
This movie was absolutely BORING. it was not funny at all. It felt as if they were trying to pander to the American markey - and just made a boring movie
Fred says
Extremely funny and entertaining. Hope there is a Paul 2.
What a very funny movie, I liked the way the movie was written with little bits and pieces from other Si Fi movies in the script
Better than I was expecting having been convinced to watch this by someone. Entertaining, good fun.
A wasted opportunity -- these guys can do so much better. The movie flows well and elicits a few chuckles, but nothing you'd repeat to your mates at the pub. And just like the wise man said: "Rampant swearing does not a good film make"...
c'mon who doesn't want all aliens to be like Paul? Brilliant comedy
I've enjoyed watching TV comedy from these 2 Brit comedians, and their US film debut as writers was fun, but as a feature length story it felt a bit under-powered, a bit too mild & easy going. Makes you appreciate the crazier more in-your-face scripts of sci-fi comedies like Men In Black, Galaxy Quest & even Mars Attacks
funny movie, great laughs, would watch it again
A very quirky and occasionally offensive road trip film. Pegg and Frost are awesome, but the CGI Alien, Paul really steals the show here. Gotta love the anti-Christian message!
very funny. laughed alot. good pick to sit down with the mates when you've had a few
Whats not to like for a flick about an E.T. with SUPERNATURAL (doh!it is from space) and HEALING (possibly rids its own lung cancer from decades of chain smoking) POWERS, teaming up with SCI-FI LOSER BUDDIES (with no sexual innuendos what-so-ever between 'em) on an RV ROADTRIP (crashing into 'out-of-this-world' human characters along the way) chased by M.I.B.s (a young no-smiles Agent K and two Agent J s but minus the dance moves)??? EVERYTHING!!
- makes you realise the REALITY of life after the credits and wish for a Paul of your own next X'mas.
Cool, Dude...
This movie was hilarious. Its amazing how life like Paul was, Seth Rogen was a great choice to do his voice. It had a great storyine and I would definately watch it again.
A surprisingly engaging road movie. Two English sci-fi nuts meet the real thing on a US holiday and the chase is on to grab it whose name is Paul or them. Red necks, FBI agents and a girl who lets go plus cameos by Blythe Stanner and Sigourney Weaver join the fun.
very funny I hope all aliens are like this!
Crude and pointedly anti-Christian.
This was a hilarious movie and would recommned to older teens and over. Absolutely loved it.
Not as bad as I thought it would be. Still not convinced by Nick Frost. Still has stoner humor in it which I think can get a bit tedious.
Don't usually find these type of movies funny, but in this case I quite enjoyed it. Not screamingly funny, but thought the story quite witty & had some good one-liners, as well as a few "send ups" from other space/alien movies. Had some good guest stars in it as well, all happy to take minor rolls. Probably a three & a half
Didnt finish watching it- Didn't enjoy it at all, its not my kind of humour...
Very funny, bit too much swearing but then it did add to the laughs.
Quite silly but harmless fun. Much more believable than aliens trying to steal electricity (have you guys heard of the ionosphere?)
Bumbling human sidekicks, beautiful but evil CIA agent, unlikely love story for bumbling human sidekick, exasperated alien who can't quite believe that humans are really this stupid, this movie has all the clich?s but employs them well. Well? In a likeable way may be a better statement.
Funny light hearted... easy watch
Enjoyable, funny light comedy with an unexpected twist at the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Am I the only one that hates this movie. and I find it hard to believe that intelligent people find this entertaining. Not funny at all, which is probably what half the problem is as I thought it was suposed to be a comedy! If your the type of person that laughs at american dad than you'll like it. I didnt. Waste of a Sunday afternoon!
Fish out of water, Poms in America and aliens on another planet.....take your pick. Not as funny as I expected.
Starts very slow and nearly didn't watch the whole thing because of it. It ended up being fairly funny about half way through luckily.
Top notch humour, great casting and a twist ending - what more could you want.
Seth Rogen rocks as the Alien! Very funny sci-fi and always great to see Hollywood embrace the British actors. Good for a laugh and not too much of a time waster.
I have just watched the DVD PAUL and I must say it was one of the funniest movies I have watched. All the stuff some people have said to me about it not being any good is wrong. I loved it and I laughed myself silly. It was that funny and there were a few surprises also in the movie. I will not ell you what they are because it would spoil it for you. So just get the movie and enjoy yourself.
funny, but froze 4-5 times throughout the movie.
Hillarious movie. and unique for a science fiction alien movie : )
A sweet movie. Loved a different way of projecting Aliens - a comic turn to the otherwise serious topic of Alien intervention :)
Great movie, funny, good original story, surprisingly good special effects. Very early in the movie you except Paul as a real character with a consistent personality.
Worth watching. Has some really funny bits and no dull spots. Animation and
real actors work seamlessly.
Well worth renting and good for a laugh. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost do a decent job as the main characters, driving across the USA visiting UFO sites, when Paul the alien appears. From that point on, there are lots of laughs and predictable situations. I particularly liked the Christian woman who was converted to the theory of evolution by 'Paul' and from that point on, talks in profanities almost every time she opens her mouth.
one of the best moves ive seen ever =D
I enjoyed this movie. Light hearted and funny.
This alien movie is different from most, not one for the kids. Paul has a pretty foul mouth. Funny watching the movie 'geeks' come to terms with meeting what they have been searching for ..... an alien.
This would have been more enjoyable if the character wasnt so Crude.
Funny but not as funny as I had expected.
very funny movie!but the disc froze 4-5 times which was EXTREMELY annoying!
This is a very funny film - we enjoyed it immensely. However must say the salty language was not really necessary.
Movie was good, not what I thought it would be though.
Good movie. Lots of swearing though.
Amazing out of this world comedy worth watching time and time again.
I watched the un-rated version option. Possibly for that reason, I likened it to a R-Rated version of Speilbeger's Strange Encounters of the 3rd Kind (ET). It was extremely funny and very exciting throughout.
Not bad, well worth a watch. Some great one liners.
Very funny and loved the option to have Theatre or R rating
Some good gags, but not enough to sustain a full-length feature. The earthly stars are likeably oddball and the alien is endearing. Undemanding, feelgood fun.
A good funny movie. The whole family liked this one, kept us entertained. A bit too much swearing for younger kids (mine are 12 - 16yrs). Definitely worth watching.
Teh He He He!!!!!!!!!!! What a laugh. We all enoyed this one. Really funny and a lol kind of time. Just what was needed.
Magic family show - A must watch
Rubbish is a kind word for this one.
Could have been good but they had to go there with the f word and lets not forget the Christian bashing.
It gets old that everyone who believes is a hill billy nutter, and not a hollywood tramp with drugs and boose as they best friend.
Brilliant, funny and all those references to alien movies of the past. Cameo by Sigourney Weaver was great!
Great movie, not what I expected, very funny and some unexpected twists and turns, feel good movie
Brilliant movie , had a laugh all the way to the end .
Hilarious! Even better than Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead
Loved it. Itn was an irreverent look at a possible alien landing and it was funny from start to finish. i will buy a copy for myself.
Personally I am wondering what all the hype was about with this movie. It wasn't too bad but I am not in a hurry to watch it again.
Hilarious!! Not for my 6 kids though- lots and lots of swearing.
We had already seen it - it wasn't too bad.
loving the novel swear words. This is a great movie.
Lots of laughs, loved it.
Very funny. Enjoyed the references/links to "close encounters" "star wars" and other great SF movies. We watched the theatrical version and whilst there is a bit of swearing, it goes with the plot. Probably not suitable for young kids, but probably less language than you would hear in the school yard. (much of the humour would go over their heads anyway).
very funny shame about the swearing couldnt let my son watch it he as disapointed
A Classic. Laughed until I cryed
An excellent concept as a wise-cracking alien tries to get off the planet Earth. However, the characters are one-dimensional and there are American references in the jokes.
good movie. But not as funny as I though it would be
good movie, but lots and lots of coarse language...
Fantastic and so very very funny he unrated version
Mediocre. Simon Pegg's peak was Shaun of the Dead and it's only been down hill from there. Seth Rogan, as the voice of Paul, would be the highlight of this movie.
I love those two guys, this movie was exactly as I expected from them :).
Sorry it was a simple and plain movie - the humour was not funny at all.
Great movie - lots of fun
A good idea poorly executed.
Great movie. Better than Hot Fuzz.
Paul was a decent movie that had an emotional connection at times however it lack the clarity to deliver what its theme was, comdey. I barely laughed through the movie but was impressed by the story telling.
It does okay for a title that fails to live up to its theme.
enjoyed this movie, many laughs through it,
Ok and funny in places but not as good as the hype would lead you to believ.
I loved Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz because they were hilarious movies and did not rely on heavy handed swearing and smutty jokes to be funny. So I was really excited to see Paul because movies pairing Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have never failed to disappoint me. I don't know whether it is because Paul was made to appeal to American audiences, but it just doesn't have the same sparkle as the other Pegg/Frost movies. Way too much swearing, especially by Kristen Wiig's character, and just too many lazy and predictable jokes.
Not a bad movie, has some laughs.I would recommend it.
Outstanding. Very funny. Great to see the boys back acting together.
If you're a sci-fi trekkie type then you won't miss all the little inclusions like the same music being played in the bar as the one in Star Wars Episode IV.
You'll have to watch it more than once to get them all, but it's worth it.
Not as good as I expected.
We really enjoyed this movie!! Simon Peggs and Nick Frost are always funny and the 'Paul' alien character was hilarious- some very familiar characteristics- don't we all know a 'Paul' from sometime in our lives??!! The language is colourful but I didn't find it too offensive because of the context in which is was being said!! Would recommend this for a cheeky Friday night!!
Another good movie a good laugh needed at times and this does the trick
The movie seemed to move at a snails pace before picking up.. It was ok to watch, but seems rather over hyped.
PAUL!!! an adorable character, very cute and lovable.
could have been a great show to leave out the unnecessary swearing , and the kids would be able to watch it over and over , as they do . pity writers think we need to hear swearing to enjoy a show.....
Quite funny. If you are familiar with classic Si Fi movies you will enjoy it. If you have never watched a Si Fi movie you won't really enjoy it.
I was sucked in from the beginning with the funny, blunt and brilliant story of paul, from the dog being squashed right to the twisted ending. This is not for children, there is a large range of swearing which is actually done quite tastefully through the movie (if that's possible).
Great movie, watched 2 x back to back.
AAA
extremely funny. Interesting plot, good timing with quick wit that you have to on your game or miss them. Good belly laughs, makes a change from so called comedy where they are often overstated or explain a 'gag' to the 'nth' degree thus evaporating any humour that may or may not have been there.
I really enjoyed this film, very funny
Thumbs up from me!!! Thoroughly enjoyed this film, I watched it three times and picked up different references to various well watched sci-fi films each time, probably missed a lot too. I even took the time to watch the ‘extra’ info about ‘Paul’.
I chose to watch the unrated version (after reading other member reviews) and figured I could always flick over to the other version if my ears (or eyes) started to bleed... careful if you’re offended by ‘colourful’ and somewhat graphic language – you may need to skip over a few scenes. Apart from that, I have to say this was one of the funniest and cleverest flicks I have watched in a while.
Really enjoyed this movie. Not usually a fan of too much swearing but in context it was actually really funny. Loved the charachter of Paul. Good film. 3.5
An american version of this duo but still really enjoyable, we LOVE Paul! Fabulously thought through story, a little slow and bland in areas but Paul saves the day :)
Fantastic movie! :) Funny & good to see a pro alien film, rather than the fear & horror. Loved it.
This was a great fun movie to watch. Very well done and enjoyable. The only complaint I had was the volume and type of swearing used. I am not a prude but I felt too much effort was place on deliberate swearing.
I was so dissapointed after the great build up this movie had. While there are definately many very good parts and funny bits, as we would expect from this team, there were also some distasteful sections and I didn't like the swearing - not funny. I think too many kids will watch this with parents assuming it's for kids which it is not. Jason Bateman was lovely, as he always is, and that final joke about his name was a good ending. Watch with caution.
Great comedy!!! Seth brings so much to the character "Paul'. Refreshing story
fun with a lot of inside jokes for sci fi fans.
Not Simon and Nick's greatest - Sean of the Dead is still out there as one of the all time greatest - but still fun with some great moments. Love the homage to films such as ET, Aliens, Close Encounters, Star Wars etc. Nick Frost just cracks me up and Seth Rogen was well chosen for the part. Also good to see a leading lady chosen in a Hollywood comedy that, while still attractive, wasn't a starlette but was middle aged (to match Simon Peggs character) and looked 'real' (I am sure most of you know what I mean). Overall a gentle comedy and a fairly straightforward storyline. Thumbs up. Looking forward to what these two guys do next.
This was one funny movie! a good laugh for the older children and a nice change from movies where the alien is meant to be the bad guy. Worth getting out
Not as funny as I thought it would be, and the swearing was a bit over the top sometimes. Still worth watching with a unique storyline, and the two geeks were good.
Loved it !!!
Top comedic acting
Original Storyline
Thoroughly enjoyable
DON'T MISS IT !!!
A comedy that was laugh out loud funny, and even great to watch twice! Highly recommend this one.
LOVED THIS MOVIE IF YOU LIKE SCI FI YOU WILL PICKUP ON ALOT OF BITS FROM DIFFERENT MOVIES PLUS I LIKE THESE TWO GUYS FROM SHAUN OF THE DEAD AND HOT FUZZ
Very funny. I'm not a big sci-fi fan, so I probably missed many references to
other films in the genre but it's funny enough to enjoy regardless. I haven't seen
Pegg and Frost's other films, but I have added them to my queue on the
strength of this one.
Overridden with cliches and the "swearing is funny" philosophy, this movie had its moments, especially with the many homages to other popular sci-fi movies, but ultimately it falls into the trap of being schmaltzy and totally non sensical.
Watched the unrated version - not safe for kids - and thoroughly enjoyed it. Funny. Smart. Stupid in all the right ways, with some funny kudos paid to other sci fi films, especially Aliens. Loved it!
This I thoroughly enjoyed, I watched the unrated version on disc....it was funny, sad, and witty all in one...Well done.... finally a great comedy with the filming of Paul exceptional...Definitely watch...
Quite entertaining. Loved all the sci-fi references, especially how they used the Mos Eisley Cantina music from 'Star Wars'. If I was to compare this to the other Simon Pegg & Nick Frost movies I would say it was better than 'Shaun of the Dead' but not as good as 'Hot Fuzz'.
An excellent movie, very funny, entertaining and different. Enjoyable!
Enjoyable, entertaining and worth watching. Great sci fi comedy
Love it - Seth Rogen is at his sarcastic best - Jason Bateman was great with his twist at the end.
i watched the unrated version and laughed that hard at times i was in tears. If you have morals & principles strongly suggest you watch theatrical version and don't let under 18 kids view unrated version. (not that they will probably learn any new language, but all the same)........... theatrical version should be safer.Soooooooooooooo funny and as i say, rather smutty at times but always done in a tastful manner. This title rates no. 6 in my all time best movies list after the thing, apocalypse now, avatar, 2012, the happening (as a ring-in), then this. Enjoy all
I was hoping something better from Simon Pegg & Nick Frost. Although wrote by the pair & fealt this was a mash up of English & American comedy. The alien was very American and had the most lines therefore the Comedy was more American. Lots of fun & good ideas, easy entertainment, Sean of the dead & hott fuzz is a lot better.
We saw this at the movies and it is worth a second watch - very very funny! We are watching it again through Quickflix and plan to add it to our library when we can find a copy.
Saw this at the movies with hubby when it came out.
Awesome movie, our new favourite.
Great lines, good story - with a twist too.
There's a reason they sell adult diapers you know!
paul was a fanstatic movie to watch. ido your self a favour. see paul the movie.
