This movie has absolutely nothing on the book it's based on. It's very loosely based on the book as it is. Not a movie I'd watch again, and I really enjoy chick flicks.
Just didn't grab me from the start...didn't bother watching it all...stopped when she got the 30th birthday cake....
Really enjoyed this movie, good entertainment
very entertaining, quirky & a film not to miss
Light entertainment...suprise ending. Meg does her stuff very well andthe supporting is strong. Good Movie.
Sensitive and well acted. Good script, entertaining,
You laugh, you cry and then you laugh again. loved this movie..
A lovely story of love and loss. Told with humour, empathy and understanding, this story will take you on a journey of two people falling in love and that love surviving even after tough events take place. The side stories of friends lives and connections to the lead couple add depth and a quirky warmth to the story. I enjoyed this one - a slight tearjerker but not in the tradition sense, as has a strong, healthy measure of humour and warmth.
Very Very Disappointed to find this DVD with no captions (subtitled) I ve let you know clearly that im deaf. So pls make sure all DVD are captions.
Most Romantic movie of all time
not usually a fan of chick flicks, but loved this movie!!must admit i am a sucker for the irish accent though:p definitely inspired me to read the book!!
What a load of rubbish. Absolute fantasy. Embarrassingly ridiculous. I am not a fan of Chick Flicks and if (as another reviewer states) this is a "great Chick Flick".......I shall avoid them like the plague. Went on and on and on. Ridiculous coincidences one after the other.
Kathy Bates and Hilary Swank must have been broke.
Dreadful dross!
only good part of the movie was the first 20mins or so.. the rest was just boring...
Chick Flick!
Loved it - get the tissues out and be ready to laugh and cry. It's inspired me to read the book (though the special features admit to using artistic license - film set in New York not Ireland).
If you are a sucker for an Irish accent and some good looking people, put it on your list!
although this is a warm and fuzzy feel good movie it went on for sooo long that I took a number of breaks while it was playing and didn't feel I'd missed anything. It became tiresome and I was weary of it by the time it finished. Usually I like to view the additional trailers on this one I had enough and couldn't be bother with anymore.
A very satisfying film, though I would've liked to have seen it set 100% in Ireland, as written. Still, it worked well anyway and the gorgeous Gerard Butler was irresistably charming, especially with an Irish accent. I doubt if I could've recovered from his loss any better than Holly did! So nice to have a really masculine actor playing romantic leads after years of wishy-washy 'pretty boys'. A nice romantic film, and not a bad ending either.
A watchable movie of love and friendship,
Just loved this movie, this is one that ticks all the boxes for a wonderful evenings viewing for everyone! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend highly, great story line, memorable actors, well made and scenes of Ireland are awesome. Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy! ! !
I love crying during a movie and don't do it often in most movies - this one I did! Such a touching story of how grief works and how it affects those around you as well. Want to read the book now!
I've never been moved to write a review before but I found this movie awful. Can't believe someone gave it four stars. The (over) acting was atrocious, despite the big names, the story was just plain stupid and even the set was annoying (that flickering table lamp in the apartment). I couldn't even get through it despite handing in there until three quarters of the way through believing it couldn't get worse. (Wrong). If I could work out how to give it half a star I would have. Possibly one of the worst Hollywood movies I have ever seen. Hope this stops someone else from wasting the two hours.
Good movie takes you to all the emotions of love and loss .
Nice movie to just chill out with.
A lovely movie. It slowly works through the pain of relationships and the help you need to move on. Definitely a chick flick about marriage and friendships but you walk away content. It makes you want to pack your bags and head to Ireland!
not bad just a bit boring at times
a beautiful romantic movie, the actors/actresses played their parts beautifully, the story flowed easily, and the scenary beautiful as it was added to the beauty of the story, its is true love never dies, afilm not to be missed
A nice little chick flick, makes you laugh and cry. Grab the cleenex.
Sweet romantic storey. I read the book which differs greatly, particularly as the book has it set in Ireland and they are all Irish but in this movie it is set in the US and only Gerry is Irish.
I loved it - very entertaining (tissues required)
Good grief, best girl-movie I've seen in a long time, the tissue box is empty. Fabulous acting by Hilary Swank, she improves with each movie, and Kathy Bates is still very much a supreme actor. The scenery was awesome.
This movie is just simply beautiful and moving. I would watch it over and over again
I really enjoyed watching it when our daughter was asleep and hubby out fishing. Its a great chick flick especially when you are home alone and can have a bit of a cry. My rating would be 8/10
I cannot believe the amount of reviewers here that gave this 5 stars. Schmaltzy, cliched, melodramatic snoozefest. I was almost gagging at times.
Nice flick to sit down with for Valentine's Day
Enjoyable story ,well acted ..Kathy Bates is great as usual...great ccenery...I just found Hilary Swank grating and couldn't warm to her at all ...sorry but she looks like a transexual ?????
Romantic, funny, feel good movie for a girls night in kinda movie.
A really beautiful movie, although I was getting a little annoyed for a while.
As she was trying to forget, she couldn't move on because of the letters.
The ending was predictable and went the way I hoped.
All in all, I loved this film and, if you are a chick, you will too.
If you are a guy (I watched it with my husband and he enjoyed it) give it a chance.
Don't forget the tissues!
5 stars
I was disappointed with this film.
While it was a "nice" story, nothing really grabbed me ar moved me. I was left with the feeling, "Yeh that was OK".
I would not watch it again.
made me cry.. good story line.
Very entertaining, and beautifully acted love story. Chick flick? Maybe, but I enjoyed it very much. Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler nailed the all important opening scene which I watched over and over.
I agree with Maria C, this should have been a really good film but somehow it just didn't quite make it. It was rescued by two things - both of them male and both with Irish accents
Absolutely love this film. Although it differs from the book (being set partly in the US), it keeps the feel of the book alive, and the casting was fantastic. One of my faves of the year (ever).
Poor casting aside (Hillary Swank? C'mon...) perfectly acceptable movie.
A very heart warming movie showing how important love is to wellbeing.
Great movie...talk about tugging on the heart strings didn't realise how sad it would be I think because it stayed so close to life. Good story and acted well.
Great Movie. After losing my husband this was a movie i needed to see. Tear will flow if you have lost someone dear to you but its a wonderful movie with a great cast. Great movie. No matter what people say, see it and see what you think yourself..
Could have been better produced.
Awesome movie! Started off a bit slow but despite all the cliches and i-knew-that-would-happen moments, this movie is great! Definately one to watch with the bf or for a girls-night-in. I give it 5 stars
Fantastic movie, I've never cried and laughed so much in one movie before!! Definately a nice feel good girlie movie!!
This movie is really good! so romantic and enjoyable to watch...maybe they should also filmed the part where Gerry died, because when you dont read the book you dont know why he died..but overall, it's nice movie and great acting!
Light entertainment which allows one to escape the every day. That is why we like movies.
This has to be one of the best movies i have seen in a long time, beautifully written, Made me cry and laugh through out the whole movie, recommend it to everyone, lovely love story.....
I enjoyed this movie but enjoyed the book more. Very different adaptation to the book.
LOVELY movie. Enjoyed every moment of it and watched it three times in one weekend. Not the ending I predicted, which makes a change from this sort of movie. Very, very nice indeed. Also Irish scenery absolutely beautiful.
Great little love story with plenty of laughs. You'll feel good, but shed a tear! Gerard Butler is gorgeous and Hilary Swank is hot. Nice surprise to see Lisa Kudrow and Kathy Bates in this movie.
A little bit melodrantic in parts but strong cast performances and generally enjoyable.
Really poor. And I am not a big fan of Hilary Swank in these types of roles. Was almost an unbelievable storyline as well.
Lovely and gentle love story. And it is NOT just a 'chick flick' since my husband loved it just as much as I did.
Absolutely gorgeous movie. One for the heart, very emotional and moving. Even my boy liked it.
I thought this was really quite good as it has a few twists in it, especially the ending.
A Cold, a box of tissues and a crying snotfest, PRICELESS. A beautifully written story, the best I have seen in a while. Not only does it rip your heart out as you feel the pain and loss of the leading character through this journey, but it leaves you with a sense of how strong and resilient the human spirit really is, especially in love and death. So as I sit here with my chafing nostrils and bundle of scrunched up tissues I can't help but think "Wow", just "Wow!". If it weren't for great acting it would be nothing more than a sad story, instead of this deeply touching and moving drama. A great flick, well made and well executed. Not the kind you will forget overnight. Particularly if you are in need of a good nasal flush.
A very romantic movie. A real tear-jerker and well worth a watch.
It has been long since I have last seen such a good movie. From the beginning till the end I was sobbing, laughing oohing and ahing. I gave it to 2 of my friends to watch before I sent it back. Love it, love it, love it.
Beautiful, romantic feel-good film along the lines of Sweet November and The Lake House. Great cast, perhaps a slightly strange premise for the story, but otherwise thoroughly enjoyable. PS. Have Tissues Handy!
Beautiful movie watched it twice! Girls will need tissues.
A sad and funny movie! This movie was so great to watch, hence the excellent rate I have given it. Hillary Swank is such a great actress and is always very believable in the roles she plays. Gerard Butler was his usual gorgeous self (but I am bias when it comes to him...lol). I would say that it is a girl movie but it has some guy moments in it...what would you do if the love of your life was suddenly taken away from you? I love the way this movie deals with the person who was left behind and how her husband thought of a way to help her to get over his passing and continue to live without him...beautiful!
Is so beautiful, never in my life did i want to find n irish man but bring them on so hot and the accent to die for.
movie was amazing how it captured the audience. Made everybody cry
Really liked it although maybe a little drawn out. Great cast, well written. Had a cry but most of all loved the relationship between the characters. Harry Connick Jr is always great value...he was perfect!
Good chick flick, but not my kind of movie.
a real tear jerker for me ..... box of tissues by myside.
A real chick flick designed to send you on a rollercoaster of emotions. It felt a little manipulative but managed to keep my interest.
I read the book the week before i watched the dvd, how disappointing it was as they had totally changed the characters, left out characters, left out what i thought were key events. Was boring towards the end but if ya haven't read the book i guess it would be a good chick flick!
love a movie that makes me laugh, cry, and especially laugh while I am crying. And the Irish accents.....yummmmm
It could have been better, but it’s OK for a girls’ night out flick.
Cool, feel good flick that's all mushy and nice. For me it's one of those movies that promotes the perfect lifestyle of marital bliss and yet shows the immense pain and pleasure that come from leading an authentic life - in this case after the guy passes on. A great pic to enjoy with a glass of wine and the one you love.
