Moderate sexual references and themes

Director: Richard LaGravenese
Actors: Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, Lisa Kudrow, Harry Connick Jr., Gina Gershon, Kathy Bates, James Marsters, Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mates. But not Holly (Hilary Swank) and Gerry (Gerard Butler). Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each other's sentences and even when they fought, they laughed. No one could imagine Holly and Gerry without each other. Until the unthinkable happens. Gerry's death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday looms, Gerry comes back to her. He's left her a bundle of notes, one for each of the months after his death, gently guiding Holly into her new life without him, each note signed "PS, I love you". As the notes are gradually opened, and as the year unfolds, Holly is both cheered up and challenged. The man who knows her better than anyone sets out to teach her that life goes on. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly finds herself laughing, crying, singing, dancing - and being braver than ever before.

This movie has absolutely nothing on the book it's based on. It's very loosely based on the book as it is. Not a movie I'd watch again, and I really enjoy chick flicks.

A lovely story of love and loss. Told with humour, empathy and understanding, this story will take you on a journey of two people falling in love and that love surviving even after tough events take place. The side stories of friends lives and connections to the lead couple add depth and a quirky warmth to the story. I enjoyed this one - a slight tearjerker but not in the tradition sense, as has a strong, healthy measure of humour and warmth.

What a load of rubbish. Absolute fantasy. Embarrassingly ridiculous. I am not a fan of Chick Flicks and if (as another reviewer states) this is a "great Chick Flick".......I shall avoid them like the plague. Went on and on and on. Ridiculous coincidences one after the other. Kathy Bates and Hilary Swank must have been broke. Dreadful dross!

Chick Flick! Loved it - get the tissues out and be ready to laugh and cry. It's inspired me to read the book (though the special features admit to using artistic license - film set in New York not Ireland). If you are a sucker for an Irish accent and some good looking people, put it on your list!

although this is a warm and fuzzy feel good movie it went on for sooo long that I took a number of breaks while it was playing and didn't feel I'd missed anything. It became tiresome and I was weary of it by the time it finished. Usually I like to view the additional trailers on this one I had enough and couldn't be bother with anymore.

A very satisfying film, though I would've liked to have seen it set 100% in Ireland, as written. Still, it worked well anyway and the gorgeous Gerard Butler was irresistably charming, especially with an Irish accent. I doubt if I could've recovered from his loss any better than Holly did! So nice to have a really masculine actor playing romantic leads after years of wishy-washy 'pretty boys'. A nice romantic film, and not a bad ending either.

I love crying during a movie and don't do it often in most movies - this one I did! Such a touching story of how grief works and how it affects those around you as well. Want to read the book now!

I've never been moved to write a review before but I found this movie awful. Can't believe someone gave it four stars. The (over) acting was atrocious, despite the big names, the story was just plain stupid and even the set was annoying (that flickering table lamp in the apartment). I couldn't even get through it despite handing in there until three quarters of the way through believing it couldn't get worse. (Wrong). If I could work out how to give it half a star I would have. Possibly one of the worst Hollywood movies I have ever seen. Hope this stops someone else from wasting the two hours.

A lovely movie. It slowly works through the pain of relationships and the help you need to move on. Definitely a chick flick about marriage and friendships but you walk away content. It makes you want to pack your bags and head to Ireland!

Sweet romantic storey. I read the book which differs greatly, particularly as the book has it set in Ireland and they are all Irish but in this movie it is set in the US and only Gerry is Irish.

Good grief, best girl-movie I've seen in a long time, the tissue box is empty. Fabulous acting by Hilary Swank, she improves with each movie, and Kathy Bates is still very much a supreme actor. The scenery was awesome.

A really beautiful movie, although I was getting a little annoyed for a while. As she was trying to forget, she couldn't move on because of the letters. The ending was predictable and went the way I hoped. All in all, I loved this film and, if you are a chick, you will too. If you are a guy (I watched it with my husband and he enjoyed it) give it a chance. Don't forget the tissues! 5 stars

A Cold, a box of tissues and a crying snotfest, PRICELESS. A beautifully written story, the best I have seen in a while. Not only does it rip your heart out as you feel the pain and loss of the leading character through this journey, but it leaves you with a sense of how strong and resilient the human spirit really is, especially in love and death. So as I sit here with my chafing nostrils and bundle of scrunched up tissues I can't help but think "Wow", just "Wow!". If it weren't for great acting it would be nothing more than a sad story, instead of this deeply touching and moving drama. A great flick, well made and well executed. Not the kind you will forget overnight. Particularly if you are in need of a good nasal flush.

A sad and funny movie! This movie was so great to watch, hence the excellent rate I have given it. Hillary Swank is such a great actress and is always very believable in the roles she plays. Gerard Butler was his usual gorgeous self (but I am bias when it comes to him...lol). I would say that it is a girl movie but it has some guy moments in it...what would you do if the love of your life was suddenly taken away from you? I love the way this movie deals with the person who was left behind and how her husband thought of a way to help her to get over his passing and continue to live without him...beautiful!

Cool, feel good flick that's all mushy and nice. For me it's one of those movies that promotes the perfect lifestyle of marital bliss and yet shows the immense pain and pleasure that come from leading an authentic life - in this case after the guy passes on. A great pic to enjoy with a glass of wine and the one you love.
