One of the most celebrated operettas of all bounds to life as Jacques Offenbach's masterful and mythical tale of Gods and mortals explodes in a flourish of colour and movement in this rousing interpretation of Orpheus in the Underworld , performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and featuring Denis Quilley (Murder On The Orient Express), Christopher Gable (Women In Love) and screen siren Honor Blackman (Goldfinger). Fraught with spectacle and danger, it is the age-old tale of Orpheus, mortal son of Apollo and his perilous journey to retrieve his beloved Eurydice from Hades, where she has been enslaved by a besotted Pluto. When Jupiter, King of The Gods, intervenes it is up to Eurydice to chose between a decadent life with Pluto, a fantastical existence with Jupiter or to return to her home on Earth.

An abysmal production, with dreadful acting and sets . . . redeemed only by some of the singing. Bears no comparison to the recent Opera Australia production. Watch at your peril!
