A compelling tale of romantic tragedy in nineteenth century Russia. Alexander Pushkin's epic novel "Eugene Onegin" has been brought to life by academy award winning actor Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient, Schindlers List). Evgeny Onegin (Ralph Fiennes), disillusioned with St Petersburgh's high society, moves to the country when he unexpectedly inherits an estate. A city sophisticate out of place, he is, nevertheless, intrigued by Tatyana (Liv Tyler), a spirited beauty who surprises him with her passionate declaration of love. Rebuking this love is a decision he lives to regret and one which comes back to haunt him in this sweeping epic film, a tale of unrequited love, desire and danger within a tangled web of emotions.

Definitely a tragedy; a death of love - what greater tragedy is that? Still, a beautiful film. Nice camera-work, editing and period costume. Also I enjoyed the music - this is a melancholic film, but a good one. 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this film...in fact I watched it twice. Another tragic story in which Ralph Fiennes' character ultimately endures lost love!! Ralph at home on the screen when playing such roles. Powerful scenes and beautiful costumes. Highly recommended.

Ending was terrible. Liv was sultry, but Ralph was boring. I didn't care about the people.

Hated the ending, but otherwise enjoyable. Liv was at her sultry best but Ralph is boring.
