When free-spirited petty crook Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) arrives at the state mental hospital, his contagious sense of disorder jolts the routine. He's on one side of a brewing war, soft-spoken, coolly monstrous Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) on the other. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward.
Seen here in a revitalized digital transfer from refurbished elements, this electrifying adaptation of Ken Kesey's acclaimed bestseller swept all five major 1975 Academy Awards: Best Picture (produced by Saul Zaentz and Michael Douglas), Actor (Nicholson), Actress (Fletcher), Director (Milos Forman) and Adapted Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman). Raucous, searing and with a superb cast that includes Brad Dourif, Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd in his film debut, it soars.

An amazing movie; will never lose its aura. The inclusion of hospital patients basically playing themselves was a master stroke; who were the patients and who were actors playing patients ?? Last viewed this film in 1986; still enthralled. Oscar-class any year!

Class act of films. Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher star but the ensemble cast combine to make this very interesting to watch.

This is one of those very few movies where by the end of watching it I sit there thinking "Are movies even allowed to be this good". This is inevitably a masterpiece. Jack Nicholson steals the show, but all the other patient characters can be connected to easily due to their rebellion. Milos Forman gave us a masterpiece. It really is one of the best.

A classic. Nicholson is superb as MacMurphy, sent to a mental hospital from prison, where he comes up against nurse Ratchet. This movie may put you off mental health hospitals forever but if you want to see good acting, this movie will not disappoint. I have seen it several times before but it is one of those movies that does not age. Highly recommend it.

This 70's classic doesn't need a review; one of the most brilliant stories ever to transcend from novel to screen and it just plain works. You feel the in itial distain and arrogance, then the growing sense of apprehension as the fate of Randal P McMurphy closes in on him. Everyone who claims love to film should see this. The book quite possible outshines the Kesey novel in capturing the feel of the early 1960's and it's cast of misfits.

This has become a classic Jack Nicholson movie - somewhat cynical about the state of psychiatric care in the 50's and 60's, though buoyed by the optimism of the flawed character he portrayed. Good stuff.

Excellent film, no wonder it won so many Oscars. Jack is great and there are a few other actors worth seeing who went on to bigger and better things. God that actress playing the nurse is good. Got to read the book now.

A crook inappropriately gets into a psychiatric hospital, helps the other patients better than the staff but the staff get their revenge in the end. Psychiatry at it's worst. Film making at its best.

An early Jack Nicholson film exposes the harsh reality of how the instutionalised treatment of mental illness can go so wrong. A first rate performance by Jack and other members of the cast.

Just a total classic film. I have seen this three times before but never on DVD and it still stands as one of the great movies of all times, particularly the outstanding performance by Jack Nicholson. He is just brilliant. If you haven't seen it before - put it on your priority list now.

I had never actually seen this film, although heard all about it, so I thought I would take a look. I wasn't disappointed, it was truly a great film, the haunting music score added to the beautiful ambiance of this movie, making it I think, one of the all time classics. You will see some of the actors in the movie that are quite famous now but weren't then. Great movie!!

This movie is mind blowing. I have seen it many times. I was 15 when I first saw it (and loved it). I am 27 now and it is still one of the best movies ever made. It's based on a book and it's just as good. The characters are so real and are brought to life very well. It's a very well directed movie too, it's got some of the funniest scenes in movie history and is also one of the movie that has moved me the most. It's no wonder this movie has won so many awards. So many movies that have won awards like this are dull and boring, this one is so full of life and worth watching over and over again.

A stellar cast, including Jack Nicholson at his best, make this one of the best movies of the modern era. Early appearances include Danny DeVito (Get Shorty) as the irritating Martini, and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) as Taber the urger. Louise Fletcher's performance as the malevolent Nurse Ratched earned her the Best Actress Oscar for 1976 (As well as Nicholson's Best Actor, Milos Forman for Best Director and the movie won Best Picture of that year) Other notable performances from Brad Douriff as Billy Bibbitt and of course, Will Sampson as the "mute" Chief Bromden. An emotional roller-coaster from start to finish, it'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry.

As one of Jack Nicholson's earliest movies, it is an absolute gem and easy to see why it is still a classic masterpiece all these years on. The acting from the ensemble cast is nothing short of award winning. There is comedy, pathos, drama all mixed in a sparkling gem of a movie which should be a must see on any real movie fan's list.
