Grant and Bergman are compelling but overwhelm the film. Otherwise brilliant as usual.

Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant find themselves in Rio de Janeiro as spies for US Intelligence, she to infiltrate a group of German scientists up to something, and he, a US agent, to act as her minder. Living the life of a wild woman, she had been friendly with a businessman now associated with the group, and she hoped to renew the relationship by calling on him. Once in the lion's den we realize that she is on very dangerous ground as her old friend is none other than Claude Rains (the devious Chief of Police in Casablanca) and we soon sense a similar tension developing as in that movie. Great drama and the rapport between Bergman and Grant hypnotic.

While it is interesting to watch these stars work, I don't feel that this 'oldie' stands up as well to the passage of time as some others The plot seems positively to creak but production values remain interesting.

This is an excellent movie. Solid performances by all the leads and a reasonable plot. A little dated, but on the whole this holds up well.

Not the best of Alfred hitchcock, but an enjoyable trip back into black & white of this genre. Always a fan of Claude Raines.

Well worth watching. Takes you back in time and the cultural mores. Love the shots of Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman driving in the car!!!

I enjoyed this movie but was hoping for a little more. Personally, I like Cary Grant but I felt like he let the movie down a little bit. Bergman is great but Grant just wasn't cut out for this type of role. Gregory Peck maybe.

Well worth viewing. Expressions shown on faces are much more real than the present day films.

Some good acting from well-known stars but the storyline is not entirely believable and it was not a Hitchcock thriller as I might have expected.

Another superb B & W 40's chiller - menace & threat & fear from those 3 great actors, Bergman, Grant & Rains - & not a car chase, shoot up or blatant sex in sight. Movies simply don't need them when you have a terrific story played by consumate stars like these.

Clever work and script - as to be expected from Hitchcock. Overplayed acting by both Bergman and Grant (wasn't he an annoying actor) slightly tempered by excellent work by Claude Rains and some of the other members of the case. Looks slightly dated compared to newer thrillers, but still works 60 years later!

Did not believe this came up as one of the master's best. Great clear print, however have seen much better Hitch films.

Excellent stuff, great cast in a dark drama of love & betrayal. Poor Claude Rains a sucker for love, has a very nasty mum & a nazi to boot. Some blokes have no luck.
