Life seems perfect for John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife, Laura (Elizabeth Banks), is arrested for a gruesome murder she says she didn't commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son and teaching at college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence. With the rejection of their final appeal, Lara becomes suicidal and John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison. Refusing to be deterred by impossible odds or his own inexperience, John devises an elaborate escape plot and plunges into a dangerous and unfamiliar world, ultimately risking everything for the woman he loves.

Russel Crowe is his usual good self, as character and actor. The story is a bit far fetched in the beginning as he plans the escape, but it shapes up half way through and ends with entertaining drama and action.

A good thriller with a slightly unbelievable story. Russell Crowes' wife is imprisoned for a murder she says she didn't commit. When all appeals are unsuccessful and she faces many years in prison away from her family, Russell stages a prison break.

Although this movie started off slowly and was a little confusing at first, as it went on and the action started and the story came together, it was a fantastic production. The only thing, though, maybe a couple of the deleted scenes could have been left in to help with the story line, like where he got the idea for the medical van.

A husband plots to spring his wife from prison after she is found guilty of murder. Pretty good drama that poses two questions – is the wife guilty and how will he get her out of prison? Though missing edge of the seat tension, it nevertheless moves at a steady pace without too much implausibility as is the usual case for this type of thing. 3.5 stars

This is a good movie. I dont normally like slower moving movies that leave you feeling down, but this had enough intrigue to make it worth the watch. It was definately a journey, an emotional one, and I think it is one of the only movies I've ever seen Russel Crowe play without over acting every scene.

This movie is so over the top, can't believe Russel Crowe is playing in this! So many coincidences with tons of cliches. The cop looking for a button 3 years later...why? What for? The cop who runs from one subway station to the next one and arrives there as if he had walked just a few steps! The same cop anywhere he looks, gets to see Russel Crowe even when this one has changed clothes and is in the middle of a crowd...COME ON! The story is somewhat gripping and still worthes a watch if you had nothing else better watching which would surprise me. Russel Crowe remains a good actor but his character is simply too much and his actions are so stupid and so implausible that you actually forget that Russel is playing such a dumb character.

an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. Better than I thought it would be and sure, you can pick dozens of holes in the plot but once the action gets under way (somewhere around halfway through), it had me on the edge of my seat.
Probably Crowe's best performance since 'State of Play'.

In our opinion this is not one of Crowe's best movies, in fact it is probably one of his worst. It was very slow to start and did not get much better. I do not really consider reality in a movie and look for the entertainment value, however this plot had more holes than swiss cheese.

Pretty implausible plot. Skip the first 40 minutes - you will be able to pick up the entire story in the last 80. It's too long, too slow and, what twists there were in the plot, don't justify the production. A bit disappointed in Rusty Crowe in this role. Some good suspense and action at the end, but that hardly justifies this movie.

It was a well written and convincingly acted film, and the viewer was in doubt as to what the outcome would be.
There was plenty of action but little foul language, which I always consider a plus these days.
Well recommended. I watched it twice, and it still held my interest.

I was surprised that I liked this movie. I think it is because they did not dwell on the initial crime, but focussed on the desperation of the main character in trying to bring his family back together again. The cliches were there to be done to death, but the director chose to not take the easy road. So a good way to spend 2 hours.

I enjoyed this movie....Russell was at his normal acting best....Its a fast moving flick, with a just, and I do mean....JUST.....border-line plot......but hey....its the 'movies'....so, yes...this is an entertaining two hours of action, along with emotional highs......strange ending though....Interpol must not have existed back in the years that this movie is set in......w-a-y back in 2010....!

Though Russel Crowe is not one of my favourite actors I enjoyed the film immensely the story was riveting and until the final scenes wondered if he would escape. Great work by the detective who followed his leads but a little far fetched expecting to find clues after three years. Still I enjoyed the film and that's what it is all about.

Interesting morality play as faith (perhaps misplaced) in a loved one, leads Rusell Crowe to reject most cultural values. Personal interest trumps cultural loyalty again. Russell flaunts the criminal code probably for the same reason that Bernie Maddoff flaunted the financial code.

I was very, very surprised with this film not being a Russell Crowe fan I was expecting the same old thing BUT it was a good story, well acted and had me sitting on the edge of my seat several times, the little boy/son is such a sweetheart you can't help feel for him also John's parents as their world is turned upside down by circumstances beyond their control. Excellent evenings viewing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
