Based on the Nurse Matilda series of books by Christianna Brand, this dark and witty fable stars Emma Thompson as a person of unsettling appearance and magical powers who enters the household of the recently widowed Mr. Brown (Colin Firth) and attempts to tame his seven exceedingly ill-behaved children. The children have managed to drive away 17 previous nannies but as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behaviour now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences.

A very cute film. I imagine kids would adore it, and for me I enjoyed the Cinderella-type qualities of the piece. Plus- magic when used for good is always worth a star. Hence, 4 stars.

Good movie without too much razzamatazz to fill in the gaps (don't:see Mr Magoriums Blah Blah...). Adult friendly and worth a watch just for Emma Thompson, unlike the second spinoff.

Glorious! A far better version of the genre than Mary Poppins - wonderfully British with everyone hamming it up to the hilt.

Very colourful, funny, well-acted by all...totally enjoyable for all the family. The kids are fantastic (I love little Thomas Sangster's portrayal), as is Mrs Quickly. Very fairytale in style....sweet.

The person you need is Nanny McPhee! Do not listen to nay-sayers, a very good film. Its an updated nanny movie. Reminded me of Bedknobs and Broomsticks (seminal in my development!) justr the kids were far more modern (ie: a lot worse!).

It's a terrific fairytale, filled with classic morals (as in all good fairytales!). I enjoyed it, it's good fun. If you enjoy light and entertaining 'fairytale' stories then I'd recommend this one.

This is an awesome movie. Great to see Angela Landsbury playing an interesting role. This was very funny and a big thumbs up. Great acting from the "naughty" children. Emma Thompson was great as Nanny Mcphee. Her transformation throughout the movie totally amazed the kids.

This movie was an absolute treat!! A 21st century Mary Poppins!! Emma Thompson played a brilliant role and even the wishy washy Colin Firth came to the party. Imelda Staunton always shines and the kids were great. The story, with its lessons to be learnt, made it an all rounder. Highly recommended.

An enjoyable family movie-well we watched it without the kids! Emma Thompson calm and assured in her screenplay and role of Nanny McPhee. Good casting, though the lead boy I found didn't quite fit with the others, maybe that was the point. Colin Firth in his usual typecast bumbling character - which Working Title films specialise in. The tweedle dee, tweedle dum pair were fun, and the fantasy make-up and designs all fun. So when you can't play outside, stick this DVD on, and also the extras on making the film and the history of the story are good infotainment.
