I loved this movie. It lost a star cause it wasn't true to the book and because of Cameron Diaz. But it was still a touching movie my whole family watched
Ok. Not as good as I was expecting/had heard. Cameron Diaz film though, so is to be expected.
This move was ok, but not one I would watch again - too sad, depressing and this mother was "over the top"
Lovely movie, very very sad as well
Awful film. Don't even bother. It was just made to earn cash.
extremely sad movie....have a box of tissues ready
Didn't watch it. Just had a very special family member pass away and didn't feel like watching a movie like that.
Unless we are experiencing the same, we really should not judge. The Movie has much to think about
Simon Miraudo - I haven't met you but I am female and I didn't like The Notebook and my girlfriend (who bought it for me!) can't understand why.
good movie - well acted and very watchable
Books are always better, including the twist ending in the book. Lost the shock factor in the movie, but still very sad.
Very touching movie cried a lot
Not my cup of tea! Too sad.
I read the book and hoped the movie was going to be as good - and it is. Remember to have a box of tissues with you when you watch this one. Great story, very touching and real.
A b eautiful story showing how a youngest sibling can accept a terminal illness much more so than her own mother. The resulting turmoil that effects each members life especially the younger siblings sister who endured so much too. Food for thought about "letting a loved one go" . It tugged at my heart strings.
Very moving story - excellent acting
Lovely movie, and although you feel for the whole family ............kids have rights too! Definately need the tissue box for this one.
I'd read the book, which has a different ending, and I think I'd seen this movie before but it didn't stop me having a good old cry. Being a mother of 2 young children I related that you would do anything to save a child, but this movie poses a real moral dilemna - how far would you go, and to the detriment of another of your children ???
Beautiful movie & excellent make-up effects!
Wish i didn't watch this... way to sad for me....
Oh my gosh I couldn't stop crying. Such a beautiful, powerful movie.
Choose a quiet time with soft lighting and a box of tissues. Everyone's a hero in this flick, Cameron Diaz's performance is very believable as the lioness you would trust implicitly with YOUR life. Classy flick. Top acting top story and top film.
Slow, schmaltzy version of the book.
A sob fest that should've been sponsored by Kleenex. I hated Cameron Diaz's character in this, but maybe I was supposed to. The girls perform well and Alec Baldwin is quite good, but this movie is all about turning on the waterworks.
geeee real tear jerker... great movie
Not what I expected at all. I found the characters performances strong and the twist at near the end really bought it all together. A very thought provoking watch.
Well acted story of a sick young girl who has had treatment all her life and now wants to change things and be in control of her life.,,,need a box of tissues if you watch this
Great movie.. Really need tissues for this one!!!
one of the best films i have seen. a very moving story which left me pondering over the issues it raised for many days after watching it. thoroughly reccommend it.
Probably the most heart wrenching film I've seen in a long time and I take my hat off to Kate - what a superb performance - everyone played their role so well - highly recommended.
After reading the book, this film was a TOTAL letdown. If your going to make a film based on a book, be true to the story. Huge Disappointment.
Sad and touching movie. Good story line. Was prepared for a massive cry the whole way through, but didn't have the effect that I thought the movie would have on me.
excellant movie need the tissue box handy really good story line
Interesting storyline but a real tearjerker. Keep the tissues handy.
Lovely film great performances
a problem with this disc it kept stopping while playing
Love the movie, i haven't read the book, but the movie was great in it's ow right. I dont see Cameron Diaz as the "mother", but she did an ok job. I must have watched it 5 or 6 times, and i still cry every time i watch it!
Never got to see the end of the movie as the DVD has had it.
Brilliant Movie, a story that would touch the heart of any family. My wife cried from start to finish !!! Well worth watching but be warned for the mums, make sure you have a full box of tissues ! 8.5/10
Couldn't watch past ten minutes. Too sad :-(
Thought provoking and incredibly sad. A real tear jerker that makes you appreciate life.
Keeps generally well to the book, except for a few points (Dad and brothers story non-existent). Cam Diaz not my pick to play the mother. Hated the first 10-15 minutes but after that its ok and strong tear jerky moments towards the end. Great acting by the young girls.
The book was better.
I liked this flick because it had a great story line. True life. I was gripped by the true to life story and imagining what that family must have been enduring.
There was no silly ness animation which often can spoil a good story,
I like a good story especially if you can relate, true life adventure
Tear jerker - had me enthralled the whole time.
A very challenging movie - makes you think about life and love of your children
Great true story - opens one eyes to the real world.
Although moving, this movie did not have the impact of the book on which it was based. Everything felt a bit hollow to me. And although I can understand why they did it, changing the ending left the movie feeling a bit incomplete.
was not happy with this movie. The plot was all over the place and the acting strained. The book was excellent, the movie as sometimes happens in hollywood was not true to the book
An interesting movie, but it got a bit boring.
Disappointing after reading the book, which was excellent.
It was very badly directed and the ending had been changed from that in the book, which was one of the best parts of the story in the book.
Cried. My. Eyes. Out. Definately a chick flick of the highest order but with stunning performances and a socially relevant plot this one really pulled on the ol heart strings. And I mean, come on... Abigail Breslin? Who doesn't find that girl adorable?! Also, it's amazing how Cameron Diaz can be so powerfully convinving as this strong and way too over-protective mother for about 105 minutes of the movie, and then blows it all on one short scene. Love you, Cam, but next time, don't fake cry, and if you do, try to remember it's a serious movie, so we're not supposed to laugh at you there. Just a tip from me to you. you're welcome.
A truly moving film. Saw it in cinemas and bawled my eyes out. Abigail Breslin performs exceptionally in this film. No other words can describe. Great visual translation of the book.
I didn't receive the DVD but it said i did :S
.. Abigail Breslin -- amazing young actress sad at the end ..8/10
Excellent movie, from start to finish, which is a rare thing these days. Well cast and acted, with wonderful story. Yes it was sad but tremendously uplifting and a great antidote to all of us out there who are sick of the hero worship of "hockey mum's". A great story about the positive power of humanity.
I havent read the book, but for the movie itself I bawled my eyes out. It was a great story, and the acting was pretty good. It really makes you think. The hubby loved it too so for the guys that think its just a chickflick you might be surprised. I didnit find it slow or dragging at all. I thought it was well done.
really glad I watched this - hubby liked it too which is unusual for hjim to like movies that make me cry. Cameron - was much better than I anticipated!
Great Movie, good service
A sad but moving story, to think humans could be made for spare parts!, and then what happens to the giver? Its good to know humans have rights and that something can be done about it.
A sad film. I haven't read the book but seeing this movie has made me want to read it now. The movie makes you think about the ethics behind organ transplants and how it affects everyone, not just the recipient. And when it involves children it makes it seem worse. Cameron Diaz did a good job of portraying the mother I thought.
I really enjoyed this and so did my husband - who is normally way more partial to a bit more action and little less tear-jerking...this film is totally moving and engrossing. Great characters and storyline - and I was so pleasantly surprised by Cameron Diaz - who I always like - but could never have imagined in this type of role - but she pulls it off absolutely....
an absolutely wonderful well acted story, about a very touchy and controversual topic, can understand why the family goes to such leangths, but then the mother looses sight that the daughter they had created fo try and save the life of their first born was also a person in herself and deserved a life, and not a speciman to be supposably used to save another, lots of tissues needed, fantastic
What an emotional story. Desperately sad but uplifting at the same time. Great performance by both young girls. Highly recommended but make sure you have a box of tissues handy!
very sad, moving, if you watch this movie have a box of tissues
Wonderful movie, nearly as good as the book.
loved this film its great
I must admit that I enjoyed the book more than the movie but did still find that it adapted quite well to the big screen. Surprisingly decent performance as a mother by Cameron Diaz. There were a couple of tear-jerker scene's but mostly an uplifting movie about the bonds of family.
Didn't watch it based on critics review- I was 2 scared to get depressed by watching a movie- I won't rate it
amazing! did go for a long time, but kept you very very interested. alec balwdins character was played brillaintly.
Good movie, husband figured it was a çhickflick and then didn't move for the entire length of the movie.
This was such an inspirational movie, it made me think about how true it is that some people just can't let someone die with dignity, respect and have a say in their life.
While this movie seemed rushed and incomplete the story is one that will stay in the mind for a long time. Filming and acting good, really liked Alec Baldwin's character and the girl who plays Anna was very good but - there are lots of 'filler' scenes which made it drag a bit. I've since read that there were other back stories in the novel that had been cut from the movie and that could explain the feeling that the story in the movie was incomplete. I might read the book.
A good tepiction of Jodi Picoult's mooving story of this American family battling with a terminally sick daughter and how they try to cope with this problem.
Well made adaptation of book. Certain aspects predictable but this in no means takes anything away from the brilliant perormances from the cast particularly the child stars.
Overall, this was an excellent movie. I liked the story line and it built up tension perfectly. It was very emotional and I was holding back tears almost the whole time.
Very sad movie would watch it again recommend others to watch it to.
well worth it
Tear jerker and I actually believed Cameron Diaz was a nasty mum!
Quite a sad movie, i think it raises a new ethical debate which is important, very well acted a worth a watch, both the young girls were beautiful
What a tear-jerker. My whole family were reaching for the tissues.
This is a great one to watched when your in the mood for a great crying session. My daughter loved it and so did my husband. It's a very emotional ride.
Damn it, I couldn???t fine the tissue Box, so my glasses kept fogging up had to watch it twice. The Notebook was one of the best relationship movies I have seen, this one has the same Director, Cassavetes and the film is nearly as good. Quality acting by all; depicting sensitive, deep, heartfelt, family health issues. Can a Mother???s love be so blind or possibly too one sided, who does the Father support, how does the sister really feel. Suitable movie for kids (I suggest over twelve, bit heavy otherwise) to watch with the adults and all learn about the quality of life warts and all.
Havent read the book but I thought the movie was great, some sad moments so keep the tissues nearby but still a good movie.
What a tear jerker. Had heard alot about it and it lived up to its expectations. A great show but have the box of tissues ready - you'll need them.
A lovely movie.Cameron Diaz put her all into this. As a mother myself I could feel her pain. You will definitely need the tissue box handy for this one.
well made film regarding a personal struggle for a family with a dying member. you can easily put yourself into their position. great acting especially by the younger actors
i bald my eyes out, a real tear jerker. Jumps between past and present a bit but easy to follow. Excellent
This is a fantastic movie. Very sad. I needed alot of tissues when I watched it. Can't wait to read the book.
if you don't cry while watching this flick - you aren't human
It was lucky that this movie strayed a lot from the book because the book had a horrible disgraceful ending, which I dont mind saying both shocked and angered me. However the ending to the movie was completely different it also missed so much of the more original and interesting parts of the book. I would say the movie was watchable but I certainly couldn't watch it again.
Loved it even though i needed the tissue box.
be sure to pull your tissues out, a fantastic but incredibly emotional film.
I havent read the book so am unable to make any comparison.
However as a stand alone movie this was a truely touching and inspiring story, I did find it very hard to get past Cameron Diaz as a mother to three teenage children, however the performance of Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vassilieva were so heartfelt and genuine.
Currently going through a similar story with my own family made this all the more touching, and the reality of the cancers portrayal rather than hiding the true reality in the background make this all the more touching. I'll heading out to buy this one... and a years supply of tissues to go with it!
OMG! What a movie, make sure you have a whole box of tissues, this is a really emotional, amazing story, I would recomend to anyone.
Great movie, but I prefer the book's finale!
I cried a fair bit through this movie. Definately recommend it. Abigail Breslin (from Little Miss Sunshine) is brilliant. What an awesome little actress. A great story which really makes you think what you would do if it were to happen to you. I had my reservations about watching this film as I didnt want the sadness, but it was worth it.
I didn't know there was a book but regardless I loved the movie. You certainly need the tissues handy though.
High emotional story very sad from begining to end!!!!! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR TISSUES READY!!!
I haven't read the book but found the move to be ok. It's a tear jerker though so make sure you have tissues handy. The basic story line is hard to follow and as it jumps from present to pass the movie suffered. Only worth 2 stars!!!
I found this a very emotional movie (having Daughters of my own), you go through a whole range with this one and it will start some 'serious' discussions on moral's, ethics etc. My teenage Granddaughters really enjoyed it as did I if 'enjoy' is the correct word? ? ? I would higly recommend this movie but have the tissues handy. Off to find the book now!
This movie certainly tugs on the heartstrings. Overall enjoyable, although not as good as the book, which is not an uncommon criticism for a film adaptation.
The book explores the ethical issues associated with designer babies in more depth, whereas the movie was focussed more on relationships.
I loved this book, and really feel that by not sticking to the book this movie has suffered. It seemed to me to be only a depressing long music video without much substance. The book wins again!
I haven't read the book so found this movie really good, although have heard that the book is better. It's a tear jerker though so make sure you have tissues handy!
It is a tear jerker but has some unexpected twists. The child actors are very good . I had a disabled child and I think they depicted the mother's protective feelings well.
I read the book and absolutely loved it. The movie, was a different story... It follows the basic story line of the book, but the ending is totally different.
