Infrequent coarse language

Director: Richard Loncraine
Actors: Renee Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Kevin Bacon, Troy Garrity, David Koechner, Eric Mccormack, Chris Noth, Molly C. Quinn, Nick Stahl, Robin Weigert, Steven Weber

Beautiful, mercurial Ann Devereaux (Renée Zellweger) has just left her philandering husband Dan (Kevin Bacon), a society bandleader, and taken to the road with her teenage sons, George (Logan Lerman) and Robbie (Mark Rendall), in search of a suitable new mate. But it's 1953, years past Ann's courting days. Now it seems that the losers and playboys outnumber the eligible and willing bachelors. As the miles roll by, their journey veers from hair-raising, to poignant, to comic. The three of them get to know each other much better than they'd ever expected. Ultimately, George discovers the determination, dignity and love underneath his mother's flamboyant exterior. And Ann makes a different family for herself and her sons than any of them had imagined.

Pretty slow road movie starring the always purse-lipped Renee Zellwegger playing a shallow woman that is seeking out the life as a kept woman after ditching her hubby. It's a bit of a telemovie and not a lot actually happens. The boys are quite good in their roles, but it seemed to be a pretty basic movie with not much going for it.

Mediocre is about the best that can be said for this inconsequential movie. It is set in the 1950s, an era presented here equally boring as the movie. The breathless delivery of Renée Zellweger grates after a while, and surely her character couldn't be as daft as she's made out. The only really good performance is the young George Hamilton character.

We really enjoyed this movie after the slow start, the four main characters are very well played which is why I have given it an extra star. Don't think I would rush to watch it again but it is a good story of a much loved (if spoilt and protected) woman that leaves her philandering Husband with her two teenage Sons that spend most of their time looking after her than vise versa as she tries to regain her youth and ex boyfriends. The ending is surprising and lovely.
