It's 1914. Rudyard Kipling, the British Empire's greatest supporter, is at the peak of his literary fame. Kipling's son, Jack (Daniel Radcliffe), is determined to play his part in the imminent war with Germany, but finds himself rejected due to his extremely poor eyesight. When his father uses his influence to land Jack a commission in the Irish Guards, Kiplings wife, Caroline (Kim Cattrall), is bitterly upset, failing to see the glory in losing her only son to the war.

Saw this on Telly last year I really didn't like it because I don't think this role was a good one for Daniel, I kept seeing him as Harry Potter. I really think Daniel should wait a couple of years before doing something else on the big screen. Maybe he should try Telly for a while.

A little slow to start and unfortunately Danielle Radcliffe lacked personality but an overall good story about the senselessness of war.

One of the very best films of it's type that I have had the privilige to see . Every pro war activist should see it. - it shows very graphically the futility of war and the utter waste it causes.

How stoical the English are when it comes to defending "King and Country". This film sensitively takes you into a family where the sight impared son of R. Kippling makes a superhuman effort to do his bit. After a heroic assault on the superior German forces he is heroically killed. The grieving parents are trying to justify his heroicism as having done his duty.
