For the few who haven't seen it, Toula Portokalos is 30, Greek, and works in her family's restaurant, Dancing Zorba's, in Chicago. All her father Gus wants is for her to get married to a nice Greek boy. But Toula is looking for more in life. She meets Ian Miller, a high school English teacher and dreamboat. They date secretly for a while before her family finds out. Her father is livid over her dating a non-Greek. He has to learn to accept Ian; Ian has to learn to accept Toula's huge family, and Toula has to learn to accept herself.

When I first saw this film, I had been dating a Greek man for several years, so I found myself squirming, as well as laughing, as I recognised so many aspects of the people and culture. I still enjoyed the film enormously for its humour and lovely romance, and the gentle parody Nia Vardalos makes of her own culture.

Great laughs. Great especially for the "OLDIE-WOG" background Aussies, who don't mind laughing at themselves.

Lovely movie about love. A great one to watch with your grandma as there's no swearing or sex. Some very amusing scenes with her parents and aunt.

A little disappointing after its great reviews. The concept was good and there was a few chuckles but didn't seem to be a lot of movie lacking depth the heart.

Have seen this before and love it, expecially if you come from a Greek background, are married to a Greek (like me) or have Greek friends, you will see the truth in so much of this movie.

I confess to being somewhat disappointed having heard so much about this from friends and general 'hype'. I felt the stereotypes were overdone although I enjoyed the underlying emotions.
