Director: Marc Lawrence
Actors: Hugh Grant, Drew Barrymore, Brad Garrett, Kristen Johnston, Haley Bennett, Campbell Scott

Music and Lyrics follows Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant), a washed up 80s pop star who’s been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. The charismatic and talented musician gets a chance at a comeback when reigning pop diva, Cora Corman (Haley Bennett) invites him to write and record a duet with her, but there’s a problem – Alex hasn’t written a song in years, he’s never written lyrics, and he has to come up with a hit in a matter of days. Enter Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), Alex’s beguilingly quirky plant lady, whose flair for words strikes a chord with the struggling songwriter. On the rebound from a bad relationship, Sophie is reluctant to collaborate with anyone, especially commitment-phobe Alex. As their chemistry heats up at the piano and under it, Alex and Sophie will have to face their fears – and the music – if they want to find the love and success they both deserve.

As far as light entertainment rom-coms go, this is very enjoyable. Hugh Grant & Drew Barrymore are perfectly cast, basically reprising past roles. Thought it might be corny, but I was wrong. No surprises in the script, but enjoyable entertainment.

Loved this! Very Notting Hill meets 50 first dates (oh wait, maybe that's just the actors) still a truly entertaining romantic comedy. A chick flick my husband loved - Pop, goes my heart - it reeks of 80s nostalgia and has a lot of heart. Worth a watch if you want a soppy giggle. Good-Oh!

A fun romantic comedy, centered around a has-been singer-Pop-music-writer attempting to make a return. His principal problem is to get a few new songs prepared for his comeback. He himself is utterly no good at writing lyrics, but by chance he finds a girl who is a natural lyricist (except when she puts her mind to it, and then she is dreadful). They have their ups and downs, and there are plenty of laughs. No solid meat in the play, but it is fun to watch and while away the time.

Pleasantly surprised - wasn't expecting much, but this movie is a fun, light hearted comedy that seems to get the romantic comedy mix right. I'm not a huge Hugh Grant fan, but he's ideal for this role and there's lots of great one liners. Drew Barrymore is great as well. This movie doesn't take itself at all seriously which is why it works!

An easy to watch love story with some quirky sendups of 80s pop music. Hugh Grant is not much of a singer but seems to pull off playing a washed up singer pretty well. Drew Barrymore does well again in a role of cute lady friend.

This is probably only worthy of a three stars - a light, easy 'rom-com', that I found pretty much just passable to watch as a couple... however, a few days later I still had the silly retro song from the opening credits in my head! A very nice description of the difference and complementarity of the melody vs the lyrics. Overall a tick above average I think.

If you are a fan of Drew Barrymore or Hugh Grant then watch this. It gives you an insight into how the lyrics of a song are put together and music composed to it. I think Drew Barrymore has teamed up with all the eligible male comedians by now. I enjoyed her movie with her and Adam Sandler (50 Dates).

When you've seen a few pop-corn chickflix and mainstream mass-produced romance movies, you don't expect too much so I found this surprisingly good! Didn't like Drew Barrymore (except when she was in ET) and Hugh Grant that much until I saw this. Great chemistry between them. If you're a child of the 80's then you'll have a good laugh at the cheesy 80's film clip and recognise some of the inspiration for cheesy 80's music which Hugh Grant sings! My 12 year old daughter also enjoyed it and the music. You can see that they're obviously making fun of Britney Spears pop culture with the Cora character and parts of it are predictable but hey, it's fun and tasty bubblegum for the brain and ears! Those looking for academy award winning material can look elsewhere. Otherwise, if you're looking for light-hearted comedy romance, this is delightful!

I was prepared to sit through a chick flick after the girls of the house sat through "Shoot 'em up" (and loved it) but even the chicks hated this one. So bad. Cheesy, woeful and just plain awful. Hugh Grant has played the same character in every movie with that creased forehead and perpetually worried expression and Drew barrymore is just a sap. The music and singing are dreadful. Avoid!

Although this is a light hearted predictable romantic comedy, much along the same lines as Two weeks Notice (Hugh Grant), and 50 First Dates, (Drew Barrymore) it’s still a good watch. Grant (an aging washed up singer) & Barrymore (an offbeat younger woman with a flair for words) are delightful together and given the difference in their ages, 47 to her 33, it worked. An entertaining movie.

A sweet movie but Hugh Grant did not seem comfortable in his performance - at time I found myself expecting a laughtrack after his one-liners. Great chemsistry between the leads and worth watching just for the 80s dance moves. Nowhere near as good as The Wedding Singer though!

Drew Barymore and Hugh Grant are perfect together in this plot. Some very funny moments mixed with a classic romance. Took me back to the TRAGIC 80's, the hairstyles, the clothing, the music, ah the memories.

I had no expectations about this movie, so was surprised to find how enjoyable it really was. I even found myself laughing out loud at times. The 80s music clip at the beginning was hilariously accurate and Hugh Grant looked amazingly young in it. He does his own singing in the movie and is actually quite good. Cute story, believable romance and good music. I'm still humming the main song.

How is it that the sum total of the deleted scenes was better than the main feature? Was is something to do with the lack-lustre script? Can 'our Hugh' only shine when he has a Richard Curtis or a Ben Elton writing for him? I guess that the glory days of Four Weddings and Notting Hill are well in the past. But he's such a likeable chappie which gave the film that extra star rating

A has been 80’s pop star is given an opportunity to write a song for the “it” pop girl Cora. An unlikely relationship flourishes between the characters of Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, who is just a natural in stringing words together. Hugh looks very haggard in this movie and an odd choice to playing along side Drew Barrymore. Still the format is tried and tested and there are a few funny lines to make it worthwhile. Only if you are huge Drew Barrymore fan.

Surprisingly watchable. Starts off a little shaky, but give it time and you'll find there's a likeable enough film in here. Many cynical remarks about the music industry, including cynical remarks about cynical remarkers, so there's jokes within jokes aplenty. It's light and it's sing-songy and it was entertaining. Not much else to say really.

An average film and a typical role for Hugh Grant playing an aging reborn teen idol who is trying to write a song with a looming deadline. Corny and predictable and only a few laughs make this bearable and watch it if you have nothing better to do on a rainy day.
