A historical thriller set in the aftermath of the 1972 massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics. Inspired by actual events, the narrative is based on a number of sources, including the recollections of some who participated in the events themselves. The film recounts the dramatic story of the secret Israeli squad assigned to track down & assassinate 11 Palestinians believed to have planned the 1972 Munich massacre, and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it. Bana stars as a Mossad agent charged with leading the band of specialists brought together for this operation.

Another piece of brilliant and gritty film making by Mr Spielberg. Congratulations to all of the actors who were able to make you forget they were actors playing a role - Eric Bana is superb. If you do not like violence then you may want to hide your head at the gory bits but I strongly urge you to watch it. It is a highly thought provoking movie - my partner and I are still discussing the political, moral/ethical, psychological and jew/arab issues that it made us think about. Can you pick a side? I challenge you to watch the movie and see if you can!

All hail the mighty Eric Bana. Gee he can act. This is a loong movie but it's worth it. Disregarding the issue of who is right/wrong it's a very good movie. Highly recommended. Have to be in the right mood to watch it.

Overall, very impressive film, with excellent quality production and filming. Eric is very good in his role, and although a very long movie, it kept our interest the whole way. It is all to easy to forget that terrorist attacks like this actually took place.

Good movie. Sometimes confusing, incessantly violent but for moments of light relief, and thoroughly intriguing. Small parts of the movie are sub-titled, but more should have been. Having high-level Israeli meetings held in English doesn't do much for credibility. But then getting Aussies Eric Bana and Geoffrey Rush to speak Hebrew may have been too much of a challenge! The bonus feature where both speak in true Aussie is a delight.

Spielberg directs a long winded action piece where the action is so spaced that there is no continuity. Eric Bana makes Adam Sandler's 'Zohan' look like a Hoffman's Ratso Rizzo in terms of toughness.

Interstign and enjoyable film though very violent. Eric bana does a good job about a man who begins to struggle with the revenge killing and the neverending cycle of violence.

This has been described as an 'historical thriller' , it's historical but it's not a thriller. It is about the effect of covert killing and spying on the people who carry out the work and about their moral dilemmas. It also looks at their loyalty and place in society. It's not a comfortable film and it doesn't offer answers. Hard going, but well done. Eric Bana is a great actor.

Sorry but I lost interest after the first 20 minutes. Extremely boring and dark and a disappointment considering that Eric Bana was the star. Not one of his better movies.

A movie dealing with the Israeli and Palestinian issue which is that fairly successful in straddling the fence. The problem is that movie becomes a series of assasinations without any deeper political and historical context to the whole issue. However, given the minefield of the subject matter it manages to largely entertain and inform by focusing on the human element.

Very confronting and graphic. I wasn't quite prepared for that. Interesting story, so it does portray the futility of the situation. Too graphic for me, but i still did have to finish it to see the ending!

Another great Spielberg production albeit with a surprisingly weak script. Mr Bana was great. It helps to have seen "One Day In September" first. (note to ErinW. - It's a true story, if you are concerned about "too much killing" then what a Disney film)

At last a film giving a balanced view of "terrorism". A superbly constructed and acted film which succeeds on so many levels. The most thought provoking film I've seen on the subject. Congratulations to Spielberg and his associates for their honesty.

Another movie about the plight of Jews, best told by Steven Spielberg who is a Jew himself, and directed this movie and others like it eg. Schindler's List. The movie was slow to start, then it was all about the buying of information, then the plotting and killing of each revenge target in turn. The movie kept flashing back to the Munich Olympic Siege, gradually revealing more about what happened. All 11 Israelis and all Arab (Palestinian) terrorists were killed.

Fantastic movie - puts a different (non-media) perspective on the age-old conflict. Not everyone may agree with the politics, but all can agree that Eric Bana brings depth to his character as a troubled hitman.

Ultimately a film of mixed stylistic intentions. Trying to be at some points a dramatic struggle and other an existentional social piece, finally failing to deliver either. I ended up with neither a profound emotional response nor a feeling that some sort of statement was made. Despite that there is some excellent acting.

Great movie and thought provoking, even if the director's efforts to make us think about moral grey areas with regards to international relations are blatant. The final scenes with the twin towers in the background are kind of over the top as I felt the director was trying too hard to push the point that terrorism is subjective.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. Sometimes dramas based on significant historical events stretch things too far from the real facts. I think this wasn't either good historical fiction or a straight action/political drama. For me, it was watchable and well made, but disappointing given the hype around its release.

They worry about blowing up the girl with the phone, yet we are told Israeli planes bomb and kill 200 civilians. Basically, the usual Hollywood stereo typing, Jews have a conscience but Arabs don't. According to Mosad they didn't approve of the film because the agents involved like what they were doing and had no reservation doing, regardless of the civilian casualties.

This movie started off relatively dull but improved very fast. Eric Banner is an amazing believeable actor who is going to go a long way in his career as an actor. The story goes beyond the disaster during the Munich Olympic Games and into what occured later as a result. A story about a Nations need to retaliate with the seal of approval by Golda Meir. Though it happened in the 70's it is very apt to today's horrors. In reality we ought to dislike the character played by Eric Banner, the headman assassin sent by a Nation with no lawful cause, but instead we see the humanity of this man sent to do a job not understanding "why". His personal battle to obey his country even though his head and heart believe it wrong.

The underlying message is very strong - you have to work with your opponents for peace rathen than killing them into submission, offers a salient message for Israel today. The amazing thing about this movie is the production quality and reality feel - though the moral self-righteousness of the Mossad kill squads was oversold. Its only fiction and the James Bond franchise could learn a thing or two.
