Medium Level Sex Scene

Director: David Lynch
Actors: Robert Forster, Naomi Watts, Ann Miller, Justin Theroux, Laura Elena Harring

SYNOPSIS BY DAVID LYNCH:
Part One: She found herself the perfect mystery.
Part Two: A sad illusion.
Part Three: Love.
Sounds simple and straightforward.... But nothing is straightforward in a David Lynch film. Part erotic thriller, part fantasy, part nightmare, part enigma wrapped in a riddle - this is Lynch at his most daring, provocative and complex.
Mulholland Drive is a mind-altering journey to the dark heart of the American dream, where sinister forces lurk beneath every surface. Naïve ingénue Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) has come to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune - but she finds something much more disturbing waiting in her apartment - a mysterious woman whose only memory is that someone is trying to kill her.
What begins as a simple premise unfolds into a shattering hallucinogenic vision of what it takes to make it in Hollywood. No-one comes out with their soul intact.

LONG AND OBSCURE NONSENSE
says
It is not often that I rate movies at 1 star only. But this one was such a huge disappointment. I agree with one of the earlier reviewers stating: " This movies goes absolutely no where and I finished the movie thinking what a waste of time." Laura Harring is a beautiful actress (previous Miss USA, half Mexican half German) but that is not enough to make an interesting/ good film. Such a long string of nonsence...Not my cup of tea at all!

In both the mediocre extras on the DVD, director David Lynch says that the film is based on an "idea". It takes a bit of perusal of web postings to work out what the idea was. Only then in retrospect does some sort of logic emerge to what appears on watching the movie to be random nonsense with many different strands leading nowhere.

One of the most compelling films I have ever seen. Walk over glass to catch this tragedy of jilted love, this brilliant personalised evocation of Hollywood and one of the most astounding performances I have ever seen. Naomi Watts. How did she miss the Oscar? Not the first time that's been asked.

Not an ordinary film. The narrative is not linear and few clues are given as we go. However after finishing the shape of the whole somehow shimmers in the mind. A couple of extra viewings settle matters. And the complex characters and ideas need the extra viewings. As each viewing gives you another perspective it is always nothing less than riveting.

WTF???? Naomi Watts is superb in this 2001 David Lynch film-her breakthrough role. For the first hour and a half I was engrossed and intrigued. Then, in my opinion, it fell apart and i had no idea what I was watching. Movies shouldn't be this obscure. Melissa George has a small part and Marcus Graham is featured in a good support role. Whatever happened to Laura Elena Harring and Justin Theroux???

I didn't move a muscle from beginning to end. Fantastic. It means whatever it means to you. It's all subjective. Made complete sense to me but I don't know if the Director would agree with my interpretation (and who cares). Naomi Watts was a revelation. Absolutely brilliant.

I wonder what the writer/director was on? Movie started out as if it would develop well and end in an overwhelming finale. It did not. It is an insult to the viewer and a waste of time and space.

I was a bit confused with this movie. For the better part of this very very long movie, I thought I knew what was happening. Then not long before the ending, something weird happens and nothing is like what it was earlier. Naomi Watt's character was this naive aspiring actress at the beginning and by the end was heartbroken, jealous and who knows what else. I don't think I'd watch it for a second or third time to see if it makes more sense because it's such a long movie.

When you first watch it all you are left with is what the hell?? After a little bit of thinking and some internet research, its all explained. You'll have to make your own conclusions there. It was alright. After such a long journey you hope for a more powerful ending. Its the kind of movie you have to watch over and over again to fully comprehend. So if you have the time go for it.

Perception is a funny thing and no one quite messes with it as well as David Lynch. If you're up to it this film will stay with you well past its viewing time.

Not my type of movie at all. Am too much of a realist for it and would definitely NOT have chosen it had I had an inkling of what there was to come. The one redeeming factor was the acting which was very good.

If you go into a Lynch film expecting to get it all, you are kidding yourself and this was no exception; if anything it's more obscure than any. It can be read in a bunch of different ways, but its ambiguity is part of its mesmerising impact. With Lynch it is as always wonderfully executed. Need a clear resolution to your movies? Don't bother. Love fim making that is witty, wise and wierd?...this is for you! Acting and casting superlative as well.

Not to be confused with Mulholland Falls, this movie is the hypnotic mystery/crime at its best. The story is far from straight forward and frequent time-shifts demand that you keep your wits about you. Naomi Watts and Laura Harring are at their devastating best. Seeing the movie a second time was just as enjoyable.

Interesting and weird. Seems to be heading in an obvious direction then veers roughly off-road and takes you on a wild ride before smashing up against the edges of your credibility. I don't think the last bit (which is meant to be the most meaningful) was handled as well as it could have been... but I was left with a feeling that I want to understand what was going on - that there is meaning in there that I just have to think through... and I'd love to watch it again to find out what.

Very well acted and NOT the same old cookie-cutter Hollywood Thriller of screaming helpless women in dark alleys. This one will lull you into thinking you know what's happening and then drop everything on its head to have you guessing in the last 30 minutes of the film Enjoy!

Rather off beat film but with some quite strong acting, which is what the mystery story needs. Add some good musical parts which turn the odd film into good entertainment. My outstanding choice for the whole film was a female singing a powerful version of "Crying".

Wow, I am still not sure if I liked it or not, it was weird and scary, good and bad. I was confused,I didnt really get any answers, but it has had me thinking about it a fair bit, so I guess it is a work of art. I will watch it again to see if I can pick up anything else I might have missed, but it sounds like most reviewers were confused like me! Watch it yourself and make your own decisions but dont have any expectations - if you have the time in the first place, then movies are never a waste of it.

Freaky, incoherent dribble. Film students probably revel in its cleverness, but for most it is just a weird collection of bizarro incidents.

Its pretty, its compelling in places, it is a triumph of the process (as opposed to content) of storytelling, but it is still a catastrophy. Naomi Watts is really quite special, and the cinematography is seriously first rate. Nevertheless there are 2 hours 20 of my life that I want back. And yes, if you dont put chapters in a dvd it is a massive inconvenience.

'what a load of crap, drugs..., blah" If you don't get something, that doesn't mean you abuse it. This a fantastic movie and requires some imagination to understand. If you don't get it first time, watch it again. If you don't get it then, watch it again. If by then you don't get it, then all you have to do is find out the tips and it will all become very clear. Who cares if it doesn't have chapters? Who watches a movie in bite size pieces???

Sometimes I have dreams that may last only a few moments, but in the dream I have a whole personal history that is instantly right there. Sometimes this is so real to me that I have to check back over my 'real' personal history to see which is true. When my father was dying a slow death over many years, I dreamed that he had temporarily recovered. I am still a little uncertain what was 'real' here.

If you are a David Lynch fan (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks etc) then you are going to love this film. If you are not then maybe look at hiring a nice straight forward thriller like Cape Fear. Mulholland Drive has all the ingredients of being an excellent film with the usual suspects of wierdo actors and warped sense of reality however in the words of another reviewer 'it was too in love with its own bloody cleverness'. I know a lot of people raved about the film but I think it was a little over the top. The boys will definitely like the girl on girl action though. Maybe not a film to watch with all the family on Christmas Day.

Mmm, I don't really know what to say about this one except to say I was disappointed. I was prepared to be taken on a Lynchian journey and enjoyed the early travel but then I noticed we weren't going anywhere. Maybe I should have started watching this before 2 in the morning but I went to bed annoyed that I had wasted two hours of snooze time. A less kind reviewer would call this film a load of self indulgent w**k.
