First off, this is a horror movie by the guy who directed 3 of the Saw movies, that alone should tell you if this is the movie for you. If you were not a fan of Saw because of it's violence or gore, this movie is not something you should watch because it's very similar to that in terms of tone. Acting wise however this one blows every Saw movie out of the water, in particular Rebecca De Mornay who plays the mother perfectly. She's a beautiful mix of genuinely kind and loving while also a healthy amount of sociopathic tendencies. It's a hard gritty horror film with a lot of over the top moments that add to it. Keep in mind this movie is not subtle, and it doesn't try and be. It's meant to be a harsh violent film, and it's proof that when Darren Lynn Bousman puts his mind to it he can make an amazing horror film. This isn't a classic by any means, but for what it is it's a really good horror film and that is more than enough.
Inconsistent, over the top and quite stupid at times. Survival flick with quite a bunch of hopeless victims. To watch once you switched your brain off
This gory, violent hostage thriller rises slightly above mediocrity thanks to a nicely paced script full of (sometimes) unexpected twists and a strong performance from Rebecca De Mornay as the titular mother that is better than the film probably deserves. The killers must be fans of the SAW movies, because they like to set up tests of psychological torture that aim to prove all human beings are irredeemably selfish jerks. They are largely proven right. The film has little to do with the 1980 Troma film of the same name, despite being credited as a remake.
Good movie but pretty violent.
This was one of the most "bloody" some what gruesome movies I have seen.
I would not recommend it to the faint hearted
Quite a good thriller. Got a bit far fetched at the end, but pretty good to watch.
Recommended for the blood, gore murder movie lovers. After an ordinary beginning, where I thought this will be an average movie, it actually sped up to a good suspenseful movie, thanks to good acting on behalf of the "mother" and a very good believable story line. If you're into this kind of stuff , go ahead and enjoy watching the macabre workings of this woman.
It's not much more than a collection of tried and true hostage film cliches, but somehow, Mother's Day is better than it probably has a right to be. Fans of the horror/action genre could do worse.
One of the the worst movies I've ever seen, absolute rubbish, senseless violence, should be taken off the rental list!
Violent rubbish - didn't even last 30 mins into the film. Seen it all before and not interested in seeing it again in another film.
A little too violent for my liking.
Good movie gory and scary and well done!
Not sure if i should go ahead with party this weekend!!! scarrryyyy...
Well done remake, love Rebecca De Mornay what a scary mummy!!
violent in the extreme, well acted, great movie!
Over violent film with well-known actors. Thin plot.
great movie. i believe it should have been called mother dearest or something considering it was un like the original though. movie also went on a bit where people escaped and then got recaptured and took to long for beth to get revenge. other then that it was very enjoyable and worth the watch and wait to get it.
A movie with little twists. we really enjoyed this movie. couldnt wait to see what was going to happen next
A sick, gruesome and mindless movie, not worthy of wasting your time.
ok movie, no real depth to it, but ok for a lazy sunday
Pretty good ~ Rebecca De Mornay was brilliant playing the deranged mother..& a deranged mother she was at that...! Certainly worth seeing..! :)
OK, abit too over the top to be beliveable. but an insight into human nature and how people react differently when put under pressure.
wow... very intense film... action packed not a moment to miss.. I loved it and Rebecca De Mornay played a brilliant part! :)
