From the critically-acclaimed director of Notting Hill and the Academy Award -nominated writer of My Beautiful Laundrette (1987, Best Writer) comes a sensual tale of lust, jealousy and self-discovery. After her husband dies, May (Anne Reid), a shy suburban housewife, moves to London to be near her grown children and their families. Quite unexpectedly, she becomes attracted to Darren (Daniel Craig, Tomb Raider), a handsome carpenter half her age who's currently having an affair with her daughter. After Darren returns her advances, the two embark on a forbidden affair that threatens to destroy May's family in this powerful film that proves that with great passion comes a great price.

a different type of story, shows how the death of a spouse can have a large emotional effectt on the remaining partner , and in desperation can lead one to a relationship totally different to their normal type of life, enjoyed the story, and Daneil Craig and Anne Reid played their parts very well

Reminded me too much of the way my mother would have behaved! Felt kind of sorry for the mother, though, as she walked away from it all with nothing but ruined relationships with her entire family. Interesting, though.

Excellent movie, a story with a difference. Super acting by all. A mother with a difference!

A controversial topic tastefully depicted where a widow in her 60s has a brief affair with a 30-40 year old extremely sexy Daniel Craig and the repercussions with her adult children.

I saw this at the cinema initially and remember thinking "Who on earth is that wonderful actor". That actor was Daniel Craig - now 007. A very confronting story (remember older women aren't supposed to have sex, especially with younger men) with brave performances by both Daniel Craig and the equally wonderful Anne Reid. Well worth a view if you like dramas that make you think and great actors.

A stunning, beautifully made but gut-wrenching film. The acting is superlative and the script excellent. Truly a gem.

Started promisingly but went down hill pretty quickly with very unsympathetic characters all round. I can't relate to this movie.

Not for me....all characters in this movie have no redeeming qualities. Also, the scene where the daughter hits the mother is obviously written by a man. Women don't settle their differences like that.

An interestig film. Has the feel of a playhouse production. Encompasses a difficult human taboo. The mother is wonderfully played.
