Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He's been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis. Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement. But two weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar. Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It's more than his contract that is set to expire.

This movie had a very interesting plot and I enjoyed it, a good SciFi movie. They did well to make this with so little characters, Kevin Spacey is the perfect robot voice!

I thought this was a very interesting, very original film. In a way it is also quite depressing. Sam Rockwell is fantastic in his role as Sam Bell, an astronaut sent to the moon on a 3 year mission to produce Helium energy for the earth. The atmosphere is very cold and lonely producing just the right effect of solitary confinement. A worthwhile film with some very interesting twists.

I agree with Jan K though I did give it a 1star for actually watching until the end (without falling asleep) hoping it would improve.

I was sucked in by the pacing of the trailer. In reality the movie is very slow. It's a good premise, but dragged on the whole way through. It did really feel like an indie film, but watching the making of revealed just how much work went into the film. I don't want to give away anything, but one of the main effects which had to be used though the last 3/4 of the film was seamless. I was not looking for how things are done when watching it, but there was nothing that looked out of place (like there was all though 2012 which had a huge budget).

One of the best (and one the most underrated) films of 2009.
This is a well directed, brilliantly acted, has a great story, and looks beautiful.

a very amazing film. a lot of homages to Sci-fi films and one of the best sci-fi films out there. very great acting and just some amazing storytelling in this movie. just a very interesting film about working on the moon.

Would not even rate this ... although we did manage to sit through the whole movie (just) we found totally boring I'm afraid.

This was a most interesting movie, which is amazing as it has a very small cast.
I'm not a SciFi fan but I really loved this.
