Molokai is the immensely moving and true story of Father Damien (David Wenham, The Bank, The Boys, Better Than Sex) a young, devout Belgian priest. Set in the late nineteenth century, Damien sees his ultimate calling as living amongst the exiled lepers of the island of Molokai. By embracing them body and soul he is able to profoundly change the lives and fates of these afflicted people that everyone else has abandoned and forgotten. Directed by acclaimed director, Paul Cox (Innocence, The Diaries of Vaslav Nijinsky) with an all star cast that includes Kate Ceberano, Kris Kristofferson, Leo McKern, Sam Neill and Peter O'Toole and written by Academy Award winning writer John Briley (Ghandi), Molokai is a tale of true heroism and humility, a triumph of human spirit.

Great movie, shows the indominatable will of mankind - if you are passionate about something you just won't give in!

Not really entertaining as such but worth a watch to learn of the sacrifices some make to help their fellow man. David Wenham in the lead role does a credible job and Peter O'Toole shines, but Sam Neill is totally unconvincing as the Prime Minister. A surprise appearance by Kate Cerebano as the island's Queen was welcome too.

Well told story of the hardships suffered by lepers, their families and carers in terrible circumstances on the leper colony in the Haiwaia islands in the 19th century. Based on a true story. Features several Australian actors.

A good rendition of an extraordinary story, as a film I would probably rate it 3 star but watch the dvd extras; the story of the making is phenominal. The cast is fantastic too, serious heavyweights in tiny roles. This is a story that should have been told better, but it is nearly a miracle that it got told at all.

This film is NOT for everyone. If you’re interested in sterling performances, great scenery and a solid story line this IS a fantastic film. If on the other hand, you’re looking for a happy ending pass on this one! David Wenham goes above and beyond in this role and – given he only had an accent coach for a small percentage of the time he needed – should be specially mentioned for such a believable performance!

An incredible story of unselfish caring - to know this story is great but I would have been better to read the book as it was incredibly confronting and sad to see such human suffering.

More of a documentary than a movie, it's a bit heavy going, but interesting historically I suppose.

Peter O'toole is such a marvellous person to watch on screen. Dare I say outshines everyone else - or perhaps that's just me. Can't say I'd recommend this film as I'm not a great fan of Martyrdom, but if you are... hey.. knock yourself out.
