Strong violence, Strong themes

Director: Frank Darabont
Actors: Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Andre Braugher, Laurie Holden

Fear changes everything. Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumours point to an experiment called The Arrowhead Project conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapour are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival. Retreating to a local supermarket, Drayton and the survivors must face-off against each other before taking a united stand against an enemy they cannot even see!

I can never understand what people see in Stephan King movies, hopefully the original stories have more going for them than the likes of this. His movies are just plain silly, over acted by unbelievable characters and generally quite predictable, there was very little suspence in this movie, and unless you get the creeps by CGI creatures leaping about the screen you will be disappointed ...

Stephen King prevails as usual. This is great filmmaking. Plenty of thrills, suspense to the max with delighful characters put in as well.

this was great, gruesome creatures with an overzealous religious convert thrown in for good measure. Not seriously scary but good entertainment.

Watched this because I am a huge Stephen King fan but it always seems difficult putting his words and stories into film successfully. This is no exception. Interesting story but not done overly well.

I don't usually give any film 5 stars. The Mist is an exception! It's not that horror films are my favourite genre. It's that this film was crafted excellently starting with the novella from Stephen King and followed by direction from Frank Darabont and all the ensemble cast who gave fabulous credible performances and last but not least the crew. Everyone has left their mark in this incredibly gripping tale. It does remind one of "Lord of the "Flies" the way people can behave or deteriorate when faced with the fear of the unknown. I agree with "Joff's" review it does have a few moments where things could be improved within the script but it is a film that stays with you for a few days as you mul it over. Highly recommended viewing.

Fairly routine horror movie about a country town under attack from some evil force. All the cliches are here. The ending is unconvincing given the resolve the survivors have shown throughout the film i.e. the will to fight to the end.

I am a Stephen King fan but we HATED the ending to this movie. Approach with extreme caution. I loved the short story but was very disappointed in the ending of the film.

I've seen this before and i truly think that this is King in it's finest! Action, suspense, and the affliction of the Human Condition... Good stuff!

A shock-horror movie used as a vehicle to carry the familiar message of the shortcomings of human nature exhibited by a group of people facing an extraordinary terror. But it's full of cliches, poor acting and a disjointed storyline. There are better movies about the same thing without the sci-fi creatures and unbelievable characters.

A strange movie that fluctuates between suspense and banal. It has quite a horrid ending but doesn't deliver a required dramatic punch. Darabont is a good writer but this has a by the numbers, stripped bare feel to it that doesn't get you close to the characters.

This movie was different to what I was expecting. It has some fantastic horror scenes. The ending was very disturbing- very much like a shakespear tragedy. The movie makes some interesting observations of what humans are like in a crisis, and mob mentality. Interesting movie wouldn't recommend to everyone though.

This movie is difficult to review, as it is based on my all-time favourite Stephen King short story. But - as far as adaptations of the writer's work go, this is one of the better ones by far. The only real let down in that respect is the ending, which is not even similar. Having said that, however, it is still not a bad flick, but it moves a little too fast for the tension to really build, which makes the events portrayed far less credible. The CGI is average but not B-grade, and there's a few good gory moments to keep you entertained. Also, it has to be said, that while I am a fan of the book and would have preferred to see the original ending, they have given the story a real sting in the tail, that almost makes it worth seeing in itself. And Thomas Jane of the Punisher does a pretty good job once he gets warmed up. All in all, while not really a horror, it is far more entertaining than most of the kill-by-numbers flicks that are currently proliferate on the market.

This was really too scary for me, but I am a big baby when it comes to these types of movies. The ending was a surprise, but overall I thought it was well done, it had to be, it kept me watching it!

Ahh, the old "we accidentally opened a window to another dimension" explanation... I don't think I am spoling the movie by giving that away. Not sure what the mist and the assorted beasties have in common, but the suspense is okay, Marcia Gay Harden's character is frustrating and annoying and the army guys are just inept! The ending was not predicatble though so that added something.

Probably a movie for the SK faithful .. which counts me in, loved the movie, loved the acting, loved the special effects .. and yeah, good one Jodie telling everyone the ending .. gotta leave something for people to be surprised by you know.

I usually find movies based on Steven King novels a bit disappointing - not this one. Although the usual events occur, the dynamics of the people was very well done and there were scenes that were suspenseful, but the ending was excellent - very well acted and very moving. A real surprise this movie.

A horror film that's more about how people react in times of crisis than about blood and gore and CGI monsters (although there's some of both of those). A bunch of people are trapped in a supermarket as the world outside turns to hell in a handbasket. It kept my attention right through even though I'm not a particular fan of the genre and almost the entire movie takes place in one location (the store) which should have been boring. Worth watching for Marcia Gay Harden's performance and so you too can debate whether the much-talked about ending was good or not.

Frank Darabont should be given a licence to make and remake all of Kings movies. Time after time I have cringed at clumsy attempts to adapt great novels casting specific images to the readers eye onto the screen, Whereas the true essence of Stephen King is his insight into human nature. From the crazy religious nut to the problem neighbour Kings human characters are always treated with care. With the supermarket setting The Mist throws all aspects of society together, pitted against a world that seems changed forever.

There were some parts I outwardly laughed at but don't think were meant to be laughed at. The Bible thumper pissed me off to no end & really made me want to turn it off...I don't see that as being good thing....its the whole religion thing that annoyed me, obviously they were giving us the viewers a lesson....see if you can pick it. The ending didn't shock me as everyone was raving about.

Surprisingly good horror/suspense film with great performances from the cast. The film almost lost credibility for me in the "roller door" scene, but it managed to salvage itself remarkably well. A Stephen King story at its best.

I read this story about 10 times over the last few years. I loved it. When I heard the film was being made I had high hopes. Surprisingly the movie has been very faithful to the book. Some of the characters weren't the same as I'd always imagined them but I can accept that. In particular the film felt too rushed. There's plenty of devices to show the passing of time to make the characters actions more plausible. The director didn't use any of them. I didn't like the ending. The books ending was perfect in my opinion. We don't always need closure. The closure you get here is not the 'happily ever after' type thankfully. Overall I enjoyed it a great deal. Highly recommended.

Average horror type movie with very predictable scenes. Ending was a bit ordinary saw it coming. No real explanation of the story line of how and where it really came from just theory's in the movie to base it on. Guessed when he shot everyone that help would come.

Most short stories made into film usually dont have the impact of the book but this film is the best of those so far. A group of people are trapped in a supermarket while creatures that look from the dinosaur era roam outside and pick them off one by one. The surviors try to escape the mist before they are all taken. The acting is top notch and the film faithfully follows Stephen Kings short story to the letter and the CGI monsters are brillantly done and are exciting to watch. Excellant gory effects with some good splatter but the film falls apart towards the end and tacks on a very frustrating ending that will have most viewers demand an alterntive ending but until then its quite well done. Worth a rental and view for horror fans but there are better adapations of Kings stories
