This has been at the top if my queue for ages and was well worth the wait. Most excellent movie. Gene Hackman was amazing and a very likeable character. It is truly unbelievable how badly the African Americans were treated back in the day of segregation. Everybodynshouldmsee this movie at least once.
One of the best movies I have seen. Can't believe people were treated like that and what's worse It is a true story!
Totally absorbing. The amount of hate generated in this movie would fuel the world's economy for another 10 years. Brilliant performances.
Terrific movie! Gene Hackman is one of the best actors I have seen and this movie proves just that. Fantastic story line reflecting the relationship between races and law enforcement circles. A must watch!
Based on the true story of two white and an African American civil rights demonstrators being killed in the heart of Mississippi. The FBI are called in to investigate their disappearance who do battle with the small town, the community, the KKK and the police force. Brilliantly acting by Willem Dafoe and Gene Hackman who's characters are at odds with each other, but manage to get the job done. Would love to have a part two of this brilliant movie with the school girls who completed an American Modern History assignment who found the true ringleader over 40 years after the murders took place.
Mississippi Burning is based on the FBI investigation into the real-life murders of three civil rights workers in the southern US state of Mississippi in 1964. Despite some obvious dramatic license, the film is an invaluable insight into the plight of black Americans and the incredible apathy of the time. A must see.
A powerful storyline and strong performances from all the cast make this a 'not to be missed' movie. Though made almost 20 years ago and set over 40 years ago, its themes remain relevant to the present day. Thought-provoking and moving!
Powerful and hard hitting true story that leaves you shocked and saddened. Brilliant acting by all the characters especially Gene Hackman who can turn his hand to so many different types of roles. Another movie along the same lines is Ghosts of Mississippi (with Whoopi Goldberg) which is not yet available on DVD. Both of these films are "must see"!!
An older movie, but still very powerful, and very consistent with my recollection of the 60s and the political steps required to move towards de-segregation in the US South. Great performance by Gene Hackman.
Has it all. Covers all emotions particularly sadness due to the fact that the movie is based on actual fact. Everyone should watch this movie at least once. Great acting.
An interesting movie reflecting a crucial chapter of American history. The emotionally charged performance of the cast vividly captures the audience throught the movie. Thid movie is one not to be missed!
