I don't usually like western movies but this was one with a difference. It has an excellent story line and the acting was superb.
Another outstanding performance from Cate Blanchett and does Tommy Lee Jones ever make a bad movie well not after viewing this one, highly recommended.
a great western worth watching
As a longtime western tragic, I was looking forward to this but after a promising opening with good location visuals it became repititive and predictible and much too long. I guess even such good performers as Cate B and Tommy Lee Jones have to make duds now and again. A warning to any dentalphobics - shut your eyes and ears for the early sequence in which Cate does her thing as a 'bush' dentist. 2.5 stars at most.
Dramatic performance by Cate Blanchett in this suspense filled western.
A disappointment for me. As always, Cate Blanchett is fantastic in her role, but I found the story too long drawn out and most of the characters unbelievable.
Another fine effort from Ron Howard. A great way to spend a couple of hours. Thoroughly entertaining
Tommy Lee-Jones as compelling as I've ever seen him. The violence is strong, and at times disturbingly graphic. The end is rather "flat", leaving a sense of bleakness rather than hope. Certainly a well made film, but not spectacular.
Hollywood keeps the good Western's coming and this film is no exception. Another fine performance from Cate Blanchett and I liked the sense of humour portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones' character.
Excellent movie, well acted, - Cate Blanchett is once again brilliant and believable - good plot, if anything a little bit too long we thought.
I liked it but it was a bit long.
A very good story plot with excellent acting. A very enjoyable flim
I'm at a loss to know what to make of this one. I've never seen a BAD Ron Howard movie and this is no different. The two leads are as efficient as ever, the settings are stunning, but...but.... there is something Missing!
It didn't help that in true western fashion the baddies couldn't hit the side of a barn but Tommie Lee Jones could take out three injuns firing a rifle over his shoulder at full gallop.
I wanted to like it, I had no trouble sitting through it, and nothing with Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones in could be bad, but I'm afraid I found this disappointingly formulaic and predictable, dashes of witchcraft notwithstanding.
I really enjoyed this movie and found it action packed as well as having a human element in the story.
Worth watching for cate blanchett and tommy lee jones. a little drawn out at times. fabulous scenery, plot a little thin.
Excellent story, great acting , Kate Blanchett is a fabulous actress as is Tommy Lee Jones, we really enjoyed it.
I found it enthralling and superbly acted.
Cate Blanchett at her best.
an enjoyable western. loved the casting
A thoroughly enjoyable movie! I'm not a big fan of westerns but this was a gripping, edge of your seat thriller - really well done!
Fabulous movie, definitely worth the night in and a bag of popcorn!
Great scenery, great acting, great story. I expected to not really like this but was blown away by the intensity of the characters. Another superb role by Cate Blanchett.
Beautiful scenery and great suspense.
Harrowing tale of a kidnapped child. Kate and Tommy Lee both keep it together and keep you interested, but its never going to be a blockbuster.
Another good example of Cate Blanchette's versatility as an actress. Good paced western.
Great scenery, very well filmed, nice to look at but the story was corny, drawn out to the point that it was'who cares' how it ends. Some good acting helped.
Despite an excellent cast, I found this movie soulless
Even if it seems slow to begin with, stick with it its key to setting up the story. Classic Indians versus the goodies stuff!
Very good. One moive you could possibly pull your hair out for.
I thought this was a gripping story line that kept me on the edge off my seat.Gave me an understanding of what life might have been like when the west was settled.
An excellent western adventure. Terrific performances from Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones.
Gripping, edge-of-your-seat entertainment you simply do not find in most westerns.
