One of my least favourite Winterbottom movies. Well made but a bit confusing and I was not convinced by Angelina Jolie's performance. Worth watching though.
Disk faulty and sound difficult to hear. However, what I saw in the fist half was interesting.
Slow moving. Not compelling.
powerful performance by Angelina Jolie as Marianne Pearl, Very intense and nail biting drama that is compelling. The fate of Daniel Pearl is something that must never be forgotten and the telling of his story was done in a very sensitive but realistic way.
AJ gives a magnificent performance in this True Story not to be missed.
beautiful and moving and Angelina Jolie is wonderful
The Fast and the Furious
This is a really good action movie to watch provided you don't mind the movies continually pixillating and stopping towards the end. Other than that I enjoyed it.
Starts off very confusing
Based on the true story of a kidnaped American journalist with a Jewish background working in Pakistan. His captors claim that he is initially working with the CIA and then Mossad. His wife, brilliantly portrayed by Angelina Jolie along with Pakistani Police, intelligence and some of his colleagues from the newspaper he is working for attempt to discover who his captors are and why he was kidnapped. Moving and touching story with a great cast.
A movie that tells of the frustrations of living in a foreign country dealing with local government agencies under tragic circumstances.
Enjoyed this immensely and a good performance given by Anjolina
After an hour and forty minutes, I saw nothing "mighty" about it apart from mighty over-rated. The movie lacked any real electricity or tension builiding climax. Despite being about journalists, the movie did little journalistic justice to a real life heart wrenching story or to flesh out the heroism of its central characters.
I have always had mixed feelings about Angelina. This film did nothing to change my opinions. She was excellent in "The Changeling" but despite the accolades, I found her performance lacking passion and somewhat cold.
Generally, I enjoy a film with some cultural diversity but this was simply confusing. Perhaps it relied on portraying a reality documentary feel..
Very disappointed in this movie, found it very slow moving and boring. Wasn't impressed by Angelina's acting either.
A solid well acted film which is worth seeing.
Great performance by Angelina Jolie - enjoyed the movie.
I thought this film was v good. Angelina Jolie was excellent and the story was well told without overdramatisation.
true story always makes a movie a bit more enjoyable. interesting recount of events. worth seeing
Totally awesome movie....fast paced with great acting.Angelina Jolie gives a great performance and I'm not usually a fan of hers. Loved the photography of the Karachi metropolis.Unusual for a movie to not linger on a scene and this was entirely suited to the plot.I loved the whole thing and highly recommend it
This film is proof that fact can be more thrilling than fiction. Based on a true event, knowing the end does not fill the void of knowing how the end is reached, and how those waiting in hope handle the stress and cultural differences. Strong performances from all, especially Jolie.
i didn't particular like this one, angelina did a great job acting as Mariane, but otherwise i found it at times boring and a little hard to follow. Terrible tradgedy , glad i watched it but only recommend if you are really interested in the actual story.
A film that stays in your mind for days
This was a very moving story that was well acted by the main cast. The lengths that everyone went to to find Daniel Pearl was extraordinary.
I found it very difficult to follow the speed of some of the sequences and I could not remember who some of the people were. It would have been beneficial to have an understanding of the politics behind the case.
This is a movie that will probably make more sense when I see it again.
very well done. You really feel the anxiety and suspense even though you know the outcome. In watching the special features with footage of the "real-life" Daniel and Mariane Pearl, it's clear that Angelina Jolie and Dan Futterman did a fantastic job of portraying them in an extremely realistic way
A little hard to follow at times. Strong acting from Angelina with good character. Not entertaining but moving story,
I was interested in seeing this movie as had recently read the book. The movie was rather a disappointment, as I found Angelina Jolie unconvincing in the role of Marianne Pearl, who certainly comes across in the book as a strong and brave woman. Angelina Jolie however looked like she was in a trance most of the time. Rather than stoic, she appeared to be almost catatonic, and despite the attempt to look like Marianne, with the hair style etc, I just couldn't relate to her as this character at all.
Don't waste your time with this non event. Semi- documentary style filming, too many loving close ups of Angelina, and the doomed husband elicits little sympathy. Would suspect the characters the film is based on would be much more interesting.
Really enjoyed Jolie in such a challenging role. I didnt realise what a powerful actor she was until I saw this movie. Have a new appreciation for her now
This film would not be to everyone's tastes, and certainly makes you think. The inevitable ending does not spoil the picture as a whole and thankfully the film makers do not depict the violent outcome. Very moving film.
Excellent movie, intense and well played by Anglia. Even my wife sat thru the whole movie. Well worth watching.
Thoroughly enjoyed this film. The setting and the documentary style filming made it very authentic, and the relatively unknown cast, aside from Jolie, added to the realism. Her best performance by a street.
Almost a documentary, quite gripping and excellent performances all round.
Very confronting movie that leaves you thinking about terrorism and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Great acting by the two female leads in the movie. Definitely worth a watch but make sure you are in the mood to concentrate as the movie is very fast paced.
I am no great fan of the staccato style of hand-held camera work, but it works well with this story. All the cast are good, but Angelina Jolie is outstanding - I had my doubts when I saw she was the lead - perhaps too much of the glamour factor? - but she played it perfectly. Her desperate hope that her husband might ring and her refusal to give up are wrenching in their believability. And her character's realistic recognition of what spawns terrorism does give some hope for the future. A very good film.
This email is gripping to the end. I absolutely loved it - good for you angelina jolie.
Karachi: noisy, chaotic, confusing. The same goes for this movie, set in Karachi. Apart from the main characters it’s hard to work out who everyone is and how they fit in – and that’s just those on the side of those helping in the search for the missing journalist. On the other side, even the ever-expanding white board diagram of connections doesn’t help much. Angelina Jolie is fantastic in the central role; you can be convinced she’s French.
A true story with a tragic ending! I too remember following this in the papers and on TV as it unfolded. This film helps to fill in what really happened and is gripping from beginning to end. Despite a large % of people so critical of Angelina Jolie generally, I thought she was brilliant as Marianne Pearl - the resemblance is remarkable! My heart goes out to all those involved in the search for Danny, albeit too late! Highly recommended.
Strong performance from Jolie - perhaps those acting lessons came in handy after all...
Finally some good acting from Angelina. Moving story, well shot, good acting, worth watching.
gripping, this was an amazing story, told sensitively and acted well.
5/5 A great movie, watched it twice.
Loved it. Loved the direction, action, camera work, editing. Powerful story.
Deeply moving, Angelina Jolie is amazing in this true story.
Didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, found it hard to link up all the names and connections.
Angelina Jolie was outstanding
Good movie - a story definitely worth watching.
I have never heard about the true story, and when I watched this movie I was truly moved. I understand some facts in the film would not be true, but the basic storyline of the film is. It is sad that terrorism still happens today. Great acting, and great script. Probably not for those who like a bit of action.
a very well acted and produced film
I was not expecting this to be THIS good. And Angelina Jolie completely submerged herself to become the character of Marianne Pearl. Brilliant!
A very good performance from Angelina Jolie, I really enjoyed this movie particularly the scenes shot on location, it really gave you the feel of being there.
gritty & with balance. Some degree of humanising the face of terrorism adds considerably to this drama.
This film run for 1 hour 48 minutes, which is 1 hour 43 minutes too long. Angelina's actiing talents stretch to putting her hair up, which gives her ample time to push her lips out and wait - which is essentially all there is to do while waiting for the known conclusion. Once the film concluded, it left me with the only conclusion as to why I had sat around waiting, with the rest of the cast while the camera were rolling to capture the true essence of waiting, for such a long time with no real story in sight! I have sent an invoice for my time to the real life Mariane Pearl.
Worth Watching - good acting from Angelina Jolie
Despite the fact that everyone probably knows how this film ends, it is still a moving and at times disturbing, story. Angelina Jolie is stunning in her portrayal of the stoic Mariane Pearl and the large supporting cast is also up to the task. This movie, above all, will make you think.
