Actors: Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Dominic Cooper, Stellan Skarsgard

An independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, Donna (Meryl Streep) is about to let go of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), the spirited daughter she's raised alone. For Sophie's wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends - practical and no-nonsense Rosie (Julie Walters) and wealthy, multi-divorcee Tanya (Christine Baranski) - from her one-time backing band, Donna and the Dynamos. But Sophie has secretly invited three guests of her own. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, she brings back three men from Donna's past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited 20 years earlier. Over 24 chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities.

Love this movie, couldn't help smiling and dancing along. A delight from beginning to end and the fact that all the actors did their own singing was amazing.

So much girly fun. I enjoyed immensely! I loved the music and all the silliness that goes along with the gal pals and the wedding planning. Pierce Brosnan was awful. Whoever cast him shouldn't be involved in any sort of musicals or films involving music. I have no idea who would have done better but he can't have been the first pick surely. If you love ABBA you will enjoy the movie.

I'm a big ABBA fan as I grew up listening to their music...I have to say I have mixed feelings about this movie, the whole thing is ridiculously over the top, frequently cringeworthy, funny and at times unintentionally funny but if you can somehow put that aside and not take anything in the movie seriously (especially the non-existant plot), then it's pretty fun and entertaining...worst part of this movie? Anytime Pierce Brosnan opened his mouth to sing...PLEASE stick to acting!

Wonderful movie, as a singer I had to admire actors who don't normally sing as enjoying singing. Very passionate performances. Check out after the movie finishes - three straight guys looking like Elvis gay guys. Life is about fun, and this is it.

Get your daughters, Mums! Get your girlfriends, grills! A takeaway, a glass of red (or two), lots of chocolate and go girls! More fun than we could possibly imagine. Both my daughter and I had studiously avoided watching this movie until my big sister hammered me about it. A word of warning! Sleep over. Don't let your boyfriend or husband pick you up afterwards. And... give up trying to sing with the singalong unless everyone promises not to laugh and never to pass comment on your wonderful vocal abilities!! Just got to get to the Greek islands!

Oh dear! I love musicals, but not this one. I am of the Abba generation and have enjoyed their music, but the weak storyline in this movie was just a painful excuse to include as many Abba hits as possible. The best way I can put it is that Abba songs are great WHEN SUNG BY ABBA, not by big-name actors who can't really sing. This might have been better if they'd gone with real singers but only marginally. I will not be watching this again...

This movie is fantastic. I had an offer to go see this on the stage, but declined. So I thought I would see what the hype is about. The cast is great, the scenery is to die for and I thought it was wonderful how the movie is based around the wonderful songs of Abba. Definitely a 5/5 for me.

absolute rubbish! i tried so hard to like it as it has some quality actors in it and its set on a beautiful greek island, it was corny, cheesy and lame, it seemed like a desperate attempt to create a story so that they could break into an abba song every few minutes, its put me off ever considering to go and see the musical , i think they did a much better job on "muriels wedding"

I also enjoyed seeing the well know movie stars doing some thing entirely different from there normal characters they play in their movies . The cast has been well chosen for this movie and their voices are Good for the songs....... I have now watched this movie several times in the fortnight I hired it and am deffinetly going to Purchase my own copy for keepsake ...

Definately a girls movie.. its the ABBA songs that make it.. I think the play is much better.. Why do American made movies always seem to make a point of having a "token" gay and or black guy even when its not called for or needed as part of the story line??? Otherwise an enjoyable musicial.. Amanda Seyfried has such a lovely voice and if you can get over the other actors trying to sing..its very watchable. You will start singing along with the ABBA songs...

Somewhat disappointing - saved only by the music. By music, I mean the songs themselves and _not_ the singing. Why they went with big name actors who can barely sing rather than qualified singers who can at least act enough is beyond me.

Dreadful. Lame choreography, some truly awful singing, a cheese-fest script and shoddy direction. What could have been joyous and uplifting was ruined by the casting of known-name ACTORS rather than singers, who couldn't dance OR sing. Such a disappointment.

Bit disappointed. 4 stars mainly due to the ABBA music, I expected more, scenery is beautiful, Streep & Seyfried (young girl ) can sing but with the support cast they used 'name' actors in a musical, surely they could have found actors that could hold a tune as well as act. I cringed on some notes ( especially Brosnan) They spoilt the wonderful ABBA songs slightly (wife disagreed ) Anyway highly recommended but should / could have been even better in my view !!

At 1 star I'm being generous... I never take the time to write reviews but I felt it my duty to report how awful this movie was. I get the feeling it could have been a good movie, but for the totally rediculous casting. Big-name stars who were obviously chosen to boost the movie's status, failing to convince me with poor acting and singing. Pierce Brosnan looked uncomfortable every time he tried to hold a tune, and Meryl Streep seems incapable of acting, singing and dancing simultaneously. This DVD would make a great gift for someone you really dislike, just not the nextdoor neighbours...

Chessy or Girly... can't decide. The world is not used to seeing old lady dancing around and sing. Although Streep did give a wonderful performance, maybe if there's more movie like this one and viewers get more used to the idea. Overall... when first the movie started you squirm a little bit... but after a few while it's not so bad... than quite enjoyable.
