Started OK but dragged on too long
Another great little movie from the Brits. It’s odd that it is billed as a comedy. Ok some scenes are funny[ish] but it is a serious movies with a serious theme. Truthful characterisation is at the heart of why ‘Made in Dagenham’ is so good; there isn’t a poor performance. Nigel Cole obviously understands his subject and the folk who populate his movie.
Really good movie, must watch! Apart from the old cars, its a great story!
Interesting story line & I enjoy true stories. The pommie accents caused me to miss a lot of the dialogue
This is a thoroughly enjoyable, funny and inspirational movie based on the true story of woman machinists working at the Ford factory in Dagenham who went on strike for equal pay in the late 60's with dramatic consequences. The humour is very English working class (quite a bit of swearing but done in a very humorous fashion). The fashions and hairstyles are delightful. It's a step back in time to the 60's working class era, albeit through a rose-tinted lens, therefore making it quite light-hearted and fun.
I enjoyed this based on true events . Not a 5 star I give it 3
Female workers at the Ford factory in England in the sixties go on strike for equal pay. The Brits are pretty good at making potentially dull subjects into lively entertainments. This is a case in point. 3.5 stars
Loved it! Was good to see something that was unusual and a true story. Very interesting! Not a huge hit but still very good. Great fashions!
An excellent movie. Having lived in the Dagenham area as a young boy, I can easily relate to this story. Revolutions are usually started by the most innocuous of people who are often thrust into the limelight by the force of circumstances. The lovely Rita in this story epitomises the gutsiness of women and the never say die attitude of the Brits. Wonderful acting by all the cast in a film with very high production values. Four stars from me.
Really well done movie with great acting. Heartfelt performances by all involved. My husband, who is not much of a movie watcher, also enjoyed it for the historical importance it played in our lives.
I had never heard of this movie until someone recommended it to me.
The true story behind the movie is a powerful. It took a courageous group of women to stand up and fight for what's right.
I admire them ardently and towards the end when Rita stands up to give a speech to the union delegates I got goosebumps.
I recommend this movie to anyone that believes that women deserve equal rights.
Very enjoyable movie, based on fact which is always interesting.
It did nothing for me. I didn't think much of the acting.
I loved, loved, loved this movie. I'd be meaning to watch it for a long time and I'm glad I finally got around to it.
What a fantastic story!
Feel good or what....and it's true. Enthralling from beginning to end
Fantastic, funny and very interesting
Loved it, women's lib on the factory floor. Makes you realise how far we've come!
This was a brilliant film with great actors, great script dealing with a potentially boring subject.. The humour used throughout the film was excellent and the characters were very "real". And excellent film for anyone who wants a good film to watch.
Loved it, great fashion, a real girl power film!
Great story, well told and crafted, typical understated British film making, no special effects, no blood or violence and just a small amount of bad language, highly recommended.
Very enjoyable, would recommend to all...
I enjoyed the movie, but the DVD froze in two places.
A great Movie , really good storyline line , well acted , typically excellent British Movie with historical undertones .
certainly worth renting
good movie but the disc froze a few time which spoiled the viewing a little
I thought it was a bit slow and turned it off part way through.
Great movie. Worth watching.
This film made me stand up and cheer - POWER TO THE PEOPLE (in this case women)
Great movie, being true makes it most interesting
Gritty, wonderful, inspiring - thoroughly enjoyable - and one in the eye for the Murkans
I love this movie and feel it tells a very important story in history of womens struggle to achieve another milestone along with voting etc. It tells it in a very human way along with the challenges that this fight took on families and relationships. At the same time it is very uplifting and reminds us of what can be achieved when people stand together and hold out for what is right.
Great film - gritty and I actually learnt something
And who says one person cannot make a difference?
Fab film.....highly recommend this one .
Throughly enjoyed this movie. Great story, wonderful acting and the fashions are fabulous.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. I was actually standing up and cheering. Where has this movie been hidden - it's wonderful. Show it to all teenage girls and tell them about the battles fought for them. They may need the encourement to do the same on other issues. Wonderful story and excellent movie.
What a wonderful movie. More power to the women. Thank god for women like these who were prepared to stand up for what is right, no matter what the general consensus is. It was great to see how these big changes are made. Really good acting and very inspiring.
Quite brilliant - a story worth retelling.
As a child of the 70s, I really enjoyed this film from the Motherland... Great acting replaying a true story, and a fantastic job with the costumes and scenery of 60s England.... Definitely watch it, I thought it was great!
Not actually a comedy; more a drama. Takes a long time to get into the story. Much of the early part seems irrelevant. Eventually a good story.
Great movie with Sally Hawkins perfect in role.
Really enjoyable to watch. Trip down memory lane looking at the houses of the 1970s. Makes you think about how far we've come.
An OK movie for a wet Sunday. A bit too "feel good", contrived and twee for my tastes, but will please most people. A true story that has been somewhat glamorised to sell seats. It could have been so much better if it was grittier and the main character was developed more. It made equal pay for women look like a walk in the park, which it certainly wasn't.
Thoroughly enjoyed this film, don't know whether its because I am from the UK originally but found it warm, uplifting and funny.
This was an eye opener- a great movie for teenager to 90 plus Authentic England in the 60's
What a great movie like only the English can do. A truly, inspirational story line and I loved it.
Really enjoyed this, and loved the fashions too.
Great movie if you were a child of the 60's & 70's in the UK.
My partner and I watch this and really enjoyed the movie,
We are English and like Australia we to have a Ford v GM favoritism, I'm a Ford fan but the film really isn't about the cars at all.
Great film, real plot and very well acted,
Good for the family but youngsters may get a bit board.
I enjoyed this film mostly because of my interest in English cars.
Inspiring story. They did a great job on the fashion of the era. And not just a chick flick - my husband loved it too.
A bit hesitate to watch at first 15 min because of the old setting, but when the story line starting to make sense, it is a very inspiring story.
Loved it. Love any stories based on true life happenings
Makes us all think of what we have today, men and women. It is the people represented in this movie that shaped our modern society around the world. A must see for all who enjoy the benefits today of equal pay and benefits in the work place regardless of your sex. If you do not have it in your workplace maybe this will inspire you to do something about it.
Great film but then I'm always a 'sucker' for the underdog and love to see right triumph over injustice. It has captured the style, feel and atmosphere of the working class in the UK in the memorable 60's, absolutely loved the music. Will appeal to women more than men but it isn't a typical 'chick flix', not really sure I would class it as comedy either?
I loved this film - it had me captivated from start to finish. I went through every emotion possible along the way with Sally Hawkins' superb performance. I eventually lowered my star rating to four, for obvious reasons - the story had been 'softened' for the audience by adding some glamour and fluff, but I did love the ride. The footage of the actual women involved talking at the end was a lovely touch. For a (more of less) piece of history see this film!
Bit of a chick flick, but good all the same.
This has great acting and captures the time and place beautifully with clothes, sets etc. On top of that it's a terrific story of some extraordinary women who stood up for something that those of who have come after them all take for granted.
Fantastic english movie. So real opposed to the crap hollywood puts out. Do get this out. Not for the brainless
Fab movie. Loved every minute - but then again I grew up around that area!
This was a truly enjoyable film — very well made ,directed and acted, with good dialogue, and it was humorous as well as sad. It showed the reality of women against the male domination in the work-place. I am busy recommending it to all my friends and relatives. Unfortunately there are still many workplaces (not factories) where equality hasn't yet been achieved. We live in hope!!
Think this is one of the best films I have ever watched, such compelling viewing and a feel good story. Real life situations and people who don't give up never cease to amaze me. Congratulations to the production staff.
fantastic movie, baced on true happenings about women employed in a ford factory on England, and them getting the courage to fight for a better wage, by going on strike first time women have had the courage to take that action and won
We both really enjoyed this movie.
It's a good story - an important milestone in the still-ongoing fight for equal pay for women. Yet the movie is not nearly as engaging as it should've been, especially for the first half of the film. Some of the working-class London dialect dialogue is difficult to understand and much of the characterisation is superficial.
If you liked Brassed Off, you'll love this.
A feel good English movie in which a petite female factory worker finds her voice to speak up for her fellow workers to fight for equal pay. It is worth watching for a look at the 60's fashion, music and Ford cars as the setting is the Ford car factory. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie which kept me entertained throughout.
true to life drama well acted
Oh I loved this! Sally Hawkins is wonderful. Great story. Prettied-up a bit but that's okay. Rosamund Pike is lovely, too, and so is Bob Hoskins.
entertaining story- great 60s styling and footage. overall pleasant film
