Mad Max 2 - The Road Warrior (1981)

Not only is it the essential Mad Max movie, it's one of the most essential post-apocalyptic science fiction films period. Pretty much every flaw in "Mad Max" is absent here. The film is fast paced like it should be, is filled with lots of likable characters, plenty of atmosphere and is from an obviously creative mind. If you like car chases, this is also one to check out. A classic of Australian cinema and one of Mel Gibson's most notable acting efforts.

Oh yeah baby! The actionwas far fetched, but which action movie isn't? I loved it, and as we now are after "top-oil" we might not be so far from the truth of this movie! Action excellent, humour good, killing not too gross and (the young) Mel Gibson in it! Worth seeing!

a good movie in the mad max trilogy, 5 star rating

Mind blowing stunts and the movie makes my trips to the petrol station pretty mundane. Now we just have to watch Beyond Thunderdome.

Mad Max 2 not only defined a genre but remains today as the definitive work of post apocalyptic road movies. Some of the acting is wooden and some of the plot makes little sense (the fuel economy for example) but visually this is unmissable. Dean Semler built his career on this movie. He brings you right close to ground level with his car-cam and you experience every twist n the road. The action is first class, especially given the date and the stunt driving seems flawless. Add to that some powerful characters and you have a true classic of the cinema. Vernon Wells is brilliant as Wez whose rivalry with Max builds across the movie from first scene to last. Bruce Spence shines as the gyro captain whose relationship with Max reveals the hard edge of Max's shadowy soul. Forget the rest of the Mad Max trilogy, this one stands alone. It has been imitated countless times, but none have ever had the full impact of the original Road Warrior.

If you have seen and greatly enjoyed the brilliant 'Mad Max' of 1979, hang on to that memory. The sequel just hasn't the impetus or excitement of the earlier film.

This is quite entertaining and 'raw' with references to the first movie sown in. There's seems to be a lot of references to games that are current like Fallout 3, which seemed to be influenced by this film, I can't think of another film that is similar to this other than a mix of planet of the apes / soilent green / and death proof. If your after a more cinematic experience, see the first one before this and you can see the Hollywoodesque influence creeping in.

Top movie for its time, still not a bad flick! Not quite the raw punchiness of the first one, but none of the glib american-ness of the 3rd installment either.

A real blast from the past this one and of the three, probably the best all the villains were dealt with accordingly and the end scene was to die for

Not as raw as the first, but does that make it better, I thought not. Not as good as the first classic movie but still a worthy sequel for Max. Worth Watching.

Sequel to the successful "Mad Max" was in fact the first of the series to be released in the USA, under the title "The Road Warrior". It is almost universally regarded as the best of the trilogy, with its portrayal of a terrifying post-apocalyptic world in which a lonely young man becomes a hero to many, combined with some brilliantly filmed car chases. Followed by "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome". Certainly not for all tastes, it is violent, but for Gibson fans in particular it is a must. Incidentally, director Miller was later in charge of the family sequel "Babe: Pig in the City" (!!).

A good action film for Dad to share with older teens.

More main stream than the first Mad Max. Would recommend getting all three and watching again if you have not seen Mad Max since it was first released.

What can i say...dated but still a classic

I had missed Mad Max at the Movies and was looking forward to seeing it after all the "raves" I had heard - what a waste of space - the only thing worth looking at is Mel gibson's body - Give it the flick !!

I had never seen Mad Max as I missed it in the "Box Office" and I am glad I did. Phew what a waste of electricity - I am sorry, but the only worthwhile thing about the movie was seeing Mel Gibson, but the story was very weak and I wish I had missed this one too !
