Director: Rachel Perkins
Actors: Jimi Bani, Miranda Otto, Colin Friels, William McInnes, Deborah Mailman, Ewen Leslie, Tom Budge

Mabo tells the story of Eddie Koiki Mabo, the Torres Strait Islander who left school at fifteen, yet spearheaded the High Court challenge that once and for all overthrew the notion of terra nullius. Hand in hand with this David and Goliath legal battle is the tender love story of Koiki and Bonita, the woman he met as a teenager, and loved through thirty years of marriage and the raising of ten children. It tells of the deep love and partnership that fuelled their fight for Australian law to recognise traditional land rights. Although Koiki never lived to hear the High Courts decision that returned his land to him, the name Mabo has become known nationwide.

This telemovie stars Jimi Bani (The Straits, RAN) as Koiki, and Deborah Mailman as Bonita, alongside Colin Friels, Miranda Otto, Rob Carlton, Ewen Leslie and Tom Budge.

A typical chick flick. Too goody two shoes, feely, feely good and whilst touching on some of the facts it doesn't go far enough to be credible. The ageing of the actors is a big let down. I bet the producers wished they looked that good thirty years ago, let alone now! Can't quite knock the actors but the scriptwriter/s need a nulla nulla up the bum! I guess we'll have to wait for some French poof to do a doco.

Excellent movie!! I didnt really know Eddie Mabo's story before this movie and would loved to have seen more and would've watched if it had been longer. All round a great movie. If only Eddie could have lived long enough to see the fruit of his toil.

Lead cast wonderful - a lot of story to squeeze into a short film - it seemed a little rushed in bits. I did not really connect to the story in the way I thought I would.

Apart from the name, I didn't know a thing about Mabo before watching this movie. I quite enjoyed it. good choice of actors. Kind of wish it went for a bit longer and went into more detail and maybe included a bit about what happened after the decision was made and how things are today.
