I read the books a long time ago and this very long movie translated well. Might watch the rest of the trilogy - enjoyable right over wrong fantasy
I remember the first time I saw this I didn't like it much, but now that I'm older I think I was able to enjoy it much more. Not as much action/fight scenes in this movie as the others but it sets up the story and many of the characters. They did a great job bringing it from the books to film. Highly Recommended.
This was way too long a movie for me. I watched it twice, each time breaking it up a few times. Still found it hard to concentrate.
Great production but a little long.
Excellent move! Loved the actors and actresses. Great cast. Beautiful scenes. Go Froddo, get rid of that ring!
I originally gave this film one star, having walked out at the interval the first time I saw it. Having just seen it again, I still find it dark and obscure, but I will add another star for production values. Just not my kind of movie.
This is a brilliant movie and is always mentioned in every "top movies" list around but the fact that it is nearly 3 hours long does take the edge off it. It would be difficult to compress the book in to less than the three films that were eventually made and doing so would ruin the story but at 10 hours (extended versions) this is quite a marathon to get through and the only way to watch this is at home sitting in your favourite chair in front of a big screen.
So watching this (or any of the trilogy) on DVD gets the big five stars from me.
a great movie took along time to see it cant wait to see the follow up
Definitely the best of the three movies...the fellowship sets you up for a great and exciting trilogy!
well worth it great action good story and acting great special effects
I couldn't take this movie. Dark, ponderous and pompous in tone.. I walked out at the interval.
An excellent movie, not to be missed and long enough to be enjoyable.
Classic movie that will remain an all time great movie for many years, this blockbuster part one of the trilogy sets the scene with classic good versus evil, I cannot say how great this movie is, everyone will love this movie its a must see for all movie goers. But be warned its three hours long and so are the next two. Fantastic.
I love all 'The Lord of the Rings' movies. Can't get enough. You seem to miss some things first time you see them!
I had to watch this movie a few times to get the jist of the story line and then with each sequel released had to watch it again to understand - I never read the books and I probably should so I can fully understand it, but I beside all that I loved every aspect of the movies, the costumes, the scenery, the story, the characters and couldn't fault it - Peter Jackson really extended himself by bring to life the characters to life and I think the author if he were alive today would be quite proud of the outcome - can't fault the movie in any way - a real classic that will last through the ages.
Better second time around.
Awe inspiring and magical scenery and special effects meld seamlessly with plot and characters. However brings to mind the long weary battles and eery atmosphere of old films about World War one, which was glorified at the time as the war to win all wars! Which it wasn't. The horrors and memories and eery atmosphere of this war inspired Tolkein, who transformed misplaced this ill founded idealism of world war 1 into an inspiring saga of good ultimately succeeding over evil through ordinary beings with goodness in their hearts.
What else could you say! Tolkein visually portrayed perfectly
OK i might be shot here but while i think this is a great story & beautifully filmed, it is way too long. Battle scenes are way too drawn out & long winded. So be prepared for a very LONG movie!
Too long in the cinema but much easier to watch on dvd with rewinding, tea and food breaks as required!
Long and boring, too much uninteresting dialogue and not enough action. Overhyped and overrated.
Continues the tradition of the first two movies. Fantastic watch but somehow not quite up to the standard of the earlier movies.
