Director: Pedro Almodovar
Actors: Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Jose Sancho, Francesca Neri, Angela Molina, Liberto Rabal, Pilar Bardem

Naive, love-struck Victor (Liberto Rabal) attempts to seduce wealthy, strung-out junkie Elena (Francesca Neri), the woman with whom he shares his first sexual experience.

One night, the obsessive Victor pays an unexpected visit to the disinterested Elena. Two cops, David (Javier Bardem) and Sancho (Jose Sancho), violently burst into Elena's apartment and, ultimately, into her and Victor's lives. The aftermath leaves David a paraplegic and Victor with a six year prison term.

Victor watches helplessly as David becomes a Paralympics basketball star and marries Elena. On his release from prison, a chance meeting with the couple gives Victor the taste of revenge. Love, desire and betrayal climax with consequences which are both intensely sexual and deadly.

A complex plot that keeps turning in on itself in a clever way. There are no goodies and baddies. As more is revealed about each character your perception of them changes. When a character is treated as if they have a particular characteristic, they respond in a manner commensurate with that characteristic. People are moulded by how they are treated. This movie is a bit frenetic at times, and I don't see the relevance of the title, but pay attention and you will enjoy it.

I was watching this movie for Penelope Cruz, but she only plays a very minor role. To me, this is a Spanish version of boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy loses girl, boy goes to jail, boy wants revenge. Interesting camera angles in some of the scenes. Not a bad movie at all.

Good, with the typical Moldovar touch and sensibility. Not his best but worth viewing.

Almodovar has done it again. A film which hooks you in from the start and takes you to many unexpected places. Great!!

Nothing outstanding but by the same token an interesting storyline with just enough twists to hold your interest. Penelope Cruz must have been in it for at least 5 minutes!

Almodovar at his best! Extreme humanity! More plot twists than a plate of spaghetti! An adventure with passion, love, jealousy, revenge, honesty. I loved the moment when soccer becomes more important than the confict between characters who hate each other.
